Activists Fear Opposite Party VP Picks [McCain/Lieberman '08?]
Politico via CBS News ^ | 2008-07-18 | David Paul Kuhn

That nervous laughter you hear is the sound of party activists responding to speculation that Barack Obama or John McCain might pick a vice presidential candidate from the opposing party.

More specifically, it is reaction to talk that Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel (Neb.) is being seriously considered as a running mate for Barack Obama or that Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (Conn.), an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, is a potential choice for John McCain.

Though it’s nothing more than unfounded conjecture at this point, top conservative and liberal activists nevertheless say that any cross-party selection of that kind would thrust the respective party conventions into turmoil.

McCain has already shown that he doesn’t care what Pro-Lifers think.

He was makin' some pretty strong pro-life comments the other day in Michigan
[along with pledging to regulate the hell out of the auto industry with mileage and emission standards, subsidizing green car purchases, helping to make all autos flex-fuel, etc. :-( ]

McCain at GM Center
The abortion question starts at about 1:50 and his response starts at about 2:35

Abortion is still a major national issue for each parties base voter. I don’t expect Obama to buck his liberal pro-abortion base and choose Hagel as his running mate. He’d lose significant support among Democrats. And I seriously doubt McCain is foolish enough to buck the GOP`s conservative base on the abortion issue. Especially these days! Most conservatives will not accept anyone less than a pro-life running mate.

They are going to claim next that McCain was brainwashed by the KGB while in captivity or by the Bavarian Illuminati to bring about a New World Order, or that McCain was kidnapped by the Mexican Centro de Información de Seguridad Nacional (CISN) and brainwashed.

Ping me to that when you see it. I won't hold my breath.

WHY ... are you complaining about McCain at this point?

Because contrary to the view of campaign operatives on this website, the election is not the end-all. The election was already lost the day that McCain clinched the nomination. Whoever wins the presidency is going to be a liberal and, as conservatives, we should be opposing liberal policies no matter who is promoting them. Amnesty, global warming, excessive regulation, big-spending government programs--I don't care who is promoting these liberal policies, I will oppose them.

Oh, sorry. I didn’t meant to imply that McCain isn’t pro-life, just that he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the Pro-Lifers and conservatives in general. Far too many slaps in the face for this conservative to ever vote for that maniac. I have come to the point that I don’t even care. Cynical doesn’t begin to describe my attitude towards the GOP.

WHY ... are you complaining about McCain at this point?

Perhaps because conservatives come to this site to comment on politics. And please don't make the mistake of confusing conservatives with Republicans.

“Since when is pointing out McCain’s flaws “bashing”?”

Since he became the Repube nominee. He now has NO flaws, he is as close to a perfect human being as you will ever find, anywhere. If you don’t want to vote for McCain then YOU are the problem in the party, NOT him.

(mega-barf alert-sarcasm)

Every ounce of bile and vitriol that bastard has received and will receive, he has CULTIVATED for 10 years. Heck, I might vote for him, but I WILL BE giving him s**t the WHOLE WAY!

“They are hoping that it will be some one they can complain about, because they have done nothing but complain for the last 6 months.”

Lord almighty, quit whining. If that liberal RINO squish Juan picks Mitt or Palin or someone even (please God) more conservative, I WILL vote for the ticket and then....hope for the best.

As a veteran I consider their work on behalf of nObama a big FU, and frankly they disgust me.

Their efforts to silence anyone who would vote for McCain to prevent a much more leftward leaning candidate from being elected by “labeling” is right out of the leftist playbook.

As a veteran I believe in the right of free-speech above your right to not have your candidate attacked. Most of us that are disgusted by McFraud could frankly care less which lefty you vote for, we will however NOT stand by and watch him deified a la Bush.

You won’t be happy until Dems hold the WH and both houses of congress, just so you can say “I told you so”.

Told us what??”

Told us what? How about this; we are conservatives first, Republicans several rungs down the ladder....because of that, the further left you slide, you will get lonlier and lonlier.

When you pointed out the people who never seem to take shots at Obama just McCain - you were right. It’s the same posters. Over and over. They’re right here on this thread calling names and then chiding you for being immature.

Crickets chirping waiting for them to raise one finger, or one word against Obama. Their fixation with McCain is funny because I’ve just read two of them on another recent thread commenting how Obama has no opposition. Really?

Alright, lets give EVERYBODY a heart attack. Let John McCain pick HILLARY as his VP. While a nightmare, I would sure laugh at the looks on the Dems faces if she accepted. And while she would be worse than some of RINOs that might get selected, the RINOs aren’t that far behind her in what they would do to this country. It would pretty much screw up the Democrat party this year!
