Exclusive: US rocker Ted Nugent's outrageous rant on UK knife crime

By Jody Thompson,
17/07/2008

(What's this?)American rock star Ted Nugent has followed in Lily Allen's footsteps to be the latest celebrity to comment on the UK's knife crime problem.

However, unlike Lily, he's set to spark controversy with his outrageous views.

An advocate of hunting and gun-ownership rights, Nugent currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association and thinks the problem would stop if Britons were allowed to arm themselves with guns.

Talking mid-set during his gig at London's Indigo venue in the 02 Arena on Monday night, he said: "I understand that London has a knife problem. That's because you took everybody's guns away."

He continued: "If you had a f***ing gun you could shoot the motherf*****s with the knife. Do you need me to explain that to you dumb Limey motherf******? In Detroit, we don't have a knife problem. The knife motherf*****s got a Ted problem."

"'Oooh, he's got a knife, I'll pretend I'm from England'. [Imitates firing a gun]. Take that motherf****r. [Then pretends to call 911]: 'You might wanna bring a dustpan and broom because there's a big puddle of shit on the sidewalk'. That's what you call a deterrent. That motherf****r ain't gonna knife no-one ever again."

It's unlikely anti-knife campaigners are going to take Nugent's ideas seriously however.

As exclusively revealed in The Mirror today, one in five youngsters now claim they or their pals have been threatened with knives in the past year with an explosion of gangs being blamed.

Police figures to be released today are expected to show 25,000 stabbings were committed in England and Wales in the last 12 months.

When I was a kid, my brother would bring his .22 rifle on the school bus, with a box of bullets, for rifle team practice in the afternoon at school. Can’t even bring the bullets on a bus now ...

Yeah, definitely a rule, just like the Ann Coulter rule.

I think I’m in love...

Yep. And that is one of the great things wrong with our society. There needs to be a bounty on lawyers.

When I was young I used to love martial arts class. Didn’t always win but I came to scrap. Usually gave better than I got. Glory days have passed me by. But I still have that young girl that winked at me over thirty six years ago!!

I once got knocked out by a kid who didn’t know I was on his volleyball team for gym.

The teacher did nothing.

Mega ROFL!

Just what kind of nation do you think we are? If you suggest that all Brits have nannies and butlers, could I suggest that every single Yank is a redneck who does their cousin?

Anyway, get someone with a knife and there is a 30% chance of killing them. Get ‘em with a gun, and its 10%.

It would seem that he was there, and wasn’t arrested. Fancy that!

Keep your guns mate. After you’re done being condescending to we Brits, might I point out that all I need in the US is my English accent and that gets me access to everywhere you’d rather I didn’t.

“Agreed. They’ve spent the better part of the twentieth century turning the country into a Socialist anthill. They’ll finish the job in the twenty-first.”

Where do I start? Did a British tourist cr*p on your lawn? Where DOES all this anti-British propaganda come from? Ok, more likely than not from the media in the US, which is so rabidly anti-UK it gets you viewers falling over each other to get the next barb in.

“Let the Muzzies have the DAMN place. The British deserve to lose it”, posts one fool.

WHAT is it you think you’re doing? You have probably never been to this country, been to its cities, lived in its estates. You’ve never been to Nottingham for a night out, or London to see the history of the place. You’ve never seen Trafalgar Square and Nelsons Column. The White Cliffs of Dover. The Lake District. The Scottish Highlands.

The only job that will be finished in the 21st century is that the UK will realise that although it is staunchly Atlanticist, the relationship is all one way and we are treated with no regard by Yanks. No matter how many wars we fight ‘alongside’ the US (Just a matter of 2 Gulfs Wars and an Afghan Adventure in recent times, with hundreds KIA and thousands wounded), we will always be treated with the minimum respect, and usually less than.

I can only assume you lost a fistfight with a Cockney and hae got a grudge against the entire country. Or you’re simply a racist, to the wrong people.

That's because we are xenophiles, so I do believe you, and have seen that myself when my friends visit.

Any condescending tones from here are VERY Amateur League compared to being a Yank reading the British papers for a while. Really. Look at the Daily Mail and the Times, and in particular the Comments Sections on news stories. The comments written by the readers toward Yanks are often more brutal than anything that has appeared here, and are laden with impressions that seem to come from old "Dallas" reruns. The ones written by Dorset and Wilts farmers seem to be the worst.

And that means precisely bugger all in the grand scheme of things. I’m sure you reckon we have to doff our caps to the Upper Class Gentlemen and Ladies, with lots of ‘Fankyou Sirs’, ‘whatever you say Sir’, ‘please sir, got a tuppence for my drink, Sirs?’

In practical terms, we enjoy more or less similar rights to those in the US, given that much of the laws were based around the Magna Carta. Which is, to those of you who don’t do real history, as in Hollywood and the Great American Rip Off, quite important.

So I live in a damned place, and am apparently worse than the ravenous hordes WE are fighting daily?

Sickening statement, a truely repulsive comment from a mind gone walkabout in the Khyber.

Harleys are for girls. Get a Duke 998.

Hey,I do not know about that poster but I sure have. I love the place and have many of my best memories in my lifetime from there, including London- but am sickened and saddened by what I see in your papers. Honestly. Some days the news is so bad, I feel like I am seeing a bad car accident, where I do not want to look-but have to. I still read the Daily Echo and the Daily Mail every day to keep in touch.

And it looks awful. Granted, Bad News Sells, but ALL this stuff, every day?

Do. You. Believe. Everything. You. Read. In. The. Paper???

No kidding you get a bad press, I would argue for more if this is the reception we get from the average Yank? Or don’t these forums speak for the majority of Americans? Is this place a bit minor league?

And as for the Wilts and the Dorset farmers, what did you expect???! Eloquence?!!! They are F.A.R.M.E.R.S

And for a Conservative forum you aren’t clued up on the political slants of UK newspapers are you? If you want to pick a fight on more even ground, try arguing about the Independent or the Guardian.

That’s really good. It sounds like it would’ve been written later than the Seventies for some reason?

I'm delighted that you like it :-)

You're right...I wrote that info from memory, which for a rather scruffy stoat is always a mistake   :-)

"A Bang and a Wimpy" was released on Attila The Stockbroker's first EP (Extended Play vinyl disk....usually a 7" disk that plays at 33rpm but there are  12" 45rpm EP's as well) in 1981, so it was probably written in 1980 or thereabouts.  I remember it being rather popular among the punk and rock and roll crowd at the time although I don't recall how it placed on the charts, if at all.

Obviously, all British youths should be armed - then gun threats would vanish.

;-)

In the UK: If you shoot a robber, drag him over to your neighbor's house.

Actually, it's 'surreptitiously bury him in your neighbor's backyard. This is called a "sustainable solution."
