Americans should pick a president they think they can trust.
John McCain should pick a running mate he knows he can trust.
McCain knows he can trust Lindsey Graham.

I do not like John McCain.
I will vote for him as once again our very stupid Republican leadership has determined to nominate an old tired guy as they did Bob Dole.
I will not take relish in pulling the lever for this Rino jerk but he is never the less better than Obamma.
If however McLame calls upon this pos Graham to be his V.P. I will vote for Nader or write in Ronald Reagan.
Graham is intolerable.

Thanks for the ping.
From the article, written by Frank Wooten (emphasis mine):
But the most vital balance would come from McCain's faith in a devoted pal who's honest, knowledgeable, insightful, creative, hard-working, adept at crossing party lines, politically courageous and the smartest public official this editorial writer has encountered in 10 years on this job.

I can hear the arguments now, “Well at least he didn’t pick Hillary!”
As if that is supposed to score him some points or something.

St. Michael the Archangel could get the Democrat nomination, and Satan himself get the GOP. They would still rationalize a vote for ol’ Lucifer seven ways to Friday. Then, Satan picks Adolf Hitler from the abyss as running mate, they would find even more rationalizations on FR to vote in favor of the GOP over the Dem.

{is] honest, knowledgeable, insightful, creative, hard-working, adept at crossing party lines, politically courageous and the smartest public official... I suppose that would depend on what you consider "smart". I'm not familiar with the author of this drivel, but this line,
So Graham, like McCain, isn't far enough to the right for some conservative-base hardheads
...leads me to believe that he is on the (D) side of the fence. Another editorial by a Democrat giving advice to the Republican nominee.

As a “conservative-base hardhead” friend of mine said recently, “Lindsey isn’t a Democrat, but he might as well be.”
As a RINO, how far to the left can he go and still be considered a pubbie?

As a RINO, how far to the left can he go and still be considered a pubbie? An interesting question, it prompted me to check out the ACU's Senate ratings.
Specter (44) has the lowest lifetime rating of all GOP Senators, followed closely by Snowe (49) and Collins (52).
For comparison:
DeMint 98
Graham 90
McCain 82
Clinton 7.7
Obama 7.7
Kennedy 2
The highest rated Democrat in the Senate is Ben Nelson of Nebraska with a lifetime rating of 52. His closest contender is Bill Nelson of Florida with a 39.
As much as I don't like Lindsey and Juan and many of their public statements their voting records are far to the right of even the most conservative Democrats in the Senate.

Specter (44) has the lowest lifetime rating of all GOP Senators, followed closely by Snowe (49) and Collins (52). We had a discussion on another thread (this one) about McCain's ACU rating. Apparently, McCain has missed a lot of votes, which were awarded to him anyways, producing the 82 rating. Adjusting for his missed votes, his actual rating is somewhere in the low 60s, putting him only a few clicks to the right of Snowe and Collins territory. Another important note is that McCain's ACU ratings were significantly higher pre-2000 compared to post-2000.
I'd be interested to see if Graham exhibits the same or similar phenomena, especially as he is on the campaign trail with McCain.

I'd be interested to see if Graham exhibits the same or similar phenomena, <heavy sigh>Graham won the GOP primary </heavy sigh> and he faces no competition from the Democrats in November. He can now vote any way he wants for the next 6 years without fear of what us rubes back home think.
