The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Barack Obama attracting 42% of the vote while John McCain earns 41%. Thats the lowest level of support measured for Obama since he clinched the Democratic Presidential nomination on June 3. Obamas support peaked at 48% with data released on June 8, 9, and 10. During that same time frame, McCains support has remained steady in the 40% to 42% range (hes had just one day a point below that range and two days a point above it).
When "leaners" are included, its Obama 46% and McCain 45%. With leaners, Obama reached 50% support in mid-June and was at 48% or 49% every day from June 13 until July 10. Since then, he has reached the 48% level just once while polling consistently at 46% or 47%.
McCain is viewed favorably by 57% of voters, Obama by 53%. McCain is currently supported by 86% of Republicans and holds a modest--four percentage pointlead among unaffiliated voters. Obama earns the vote from 77% of Democrats.
Currently, voters trust McCain more than Obama on both national security issues in general (53% - 39%) and on Iraq in particular (49% - 37%).

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thanks for posting.
Havent you been watching MSNBC? The surge was Obama’s idea and now that it’s a success MCain and Bush are slowing coming around to Obama’s plan. And every day is a victory for Obama and bad news for McCain. Everything Obama says is gold, but crap for McCain. I dont like McCain but it’s amazing to watch these guys that LOVED McCain when he was attacking Bush now completely make up the news to win for Obama.
This number seems inflated, though. 66% (2/3) sounds more likely.
What? Obama said “NO” in an interview when asked if the surge worked. So why would MSNBC claim that the surge was Obama’s idea?
What this tells me is that more and more Obama supporters are switching to independents.
Well, these are encouraging numbers!
But I just don’t feel that these numbers are an accurate reading of the race.
Mr. Obama is acting like he already won the race, while Mr. McCain doesn’t seem to be doing anything constructive for his campaign.
Merely a feeling on my part, that’s all.
I hope the numbers in this poll are on the money.
I know McCain wants to run a gentlemanly campaign, but I hope and pray he will realize that it's going to be Obama’s camp that sets the tone. If he is unable or unwilling to go after his guy topic and topic, day after day, month by month until election day he stands a real chance of being another Bob Dole.
I think McCain has to do is remind voters, with concrete examples, of just how tough the job of President is, and the critical role of having been actively engaged in Washington politics for all those years.
The thing he can't do, IMHO, is get petty and start attacking Obama. His people don't care. He's their man and it's going to be tough to get them to change. I think the most we can hope for is that they will become disillusioned over time and just lose interest, to the point they stay home on election day.
Obama is a perfect candidate to be roundly defeated. If McCain can stress McCain's experience and maturity by posing questions to the Obama campaign that highlights their ‘hope’ and nothing more.
I think you will see more energy coming from the McCain camp once a VP is announced.
I sure hope so.
Is that announcement coming this week? That’s the word here in DC.
If the enemy is destroying himself, let him.
I will admit I don’t watch a lot of news on tv, but from what I have watched, how would the average Joe know what McCain was doing. I don’t think he gets any face time at all.
I read, so I’m informed, but most Americans get their news from TV.
I do think all the Obama coverage, this early in the game will lead to “Obama fatigue.”
Actually, the editorial the NYTimes refused to print was the hardest hitting piece McCain has created to date.
Which is why the lib rag refused to run it...
It pointed out exactly the facts of how Obama has been a wimp the past five years.
The fawning news coverage is starting to have an adverse effect. I hope he has peaked, however I do expect to see an overly exaggerated spike after the Dem convention...
Ya know, these polls are pretty much meaningless right now, don’t ya?
Maybe after the conventions, or after the two candidates have debated once or twice.
But still, Democrats are SUPPOSED to be up by 10 points or more right now, so it is kinda encouraging. Or would be if the ‘Pubbie wasn’t McCain...
Its the Oil Stupid, drilling to Victory. If you like $5/gal, Thank Congress. If you want $10, Vote Oblack.
Pray for W and Our Troops
and don’t think the DNC aren’t shaking in their boots about their “empty suit”.....they are hoping the media can sell him. McCain gets no coverage...gives the impression he is inactive.
Obama will get a big bounce after the convention. After that the media blitz will be on.
I heard on the radio this morning that there is an Obama Mole in the White Houses’ communications department.
Who are these people who view Obama favorably? I have yet to meet anyone who likes this guy. I’ve spoken to only one person who is voting for him and the only reason they could give is that he is a Democrat.
And here it is, courtesy of the NY Post Getting it Right.
Did ya see the footage of Obama getting off of a plane (in Iraq, I think), walking across a tarmac, chewing gum and smirking like a high school punk?
MSNBC is saying that withdrawing troops out of Iraq after the successful surge was Obama’s idea, when of course Obama’s plan was to remove all troops before now, leaving country in a complete mess which he said was their problem. Last night MSNBC is saying that Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki agree to get troops out of Iraq immediately~16 months.
Check out this one to compare to MSNBC:
Obama didn’t raise his troop plan with Maliki-Baghdad

We have to continue that effort.
Yeah, but how many times can the media get out their knee pads for the guy? They've been doing it for so long it's becoming monotonous. It's actually starting to have the opposite effect now.
Over exposure may be working to Obama's detriment. Let's hope so.
I hope this is the turning point where McCain starts to take a bigger and bigger lead in the polls. This could be the most important election we will ever see.
p.s. can anyone tell me how to keep track of a certain thread here, can you bookmark it? thanks
At a time when the US economy and oil are the main issues, a World Tour may not be the best strategy? Kinda makes him look aloof?

BO once played a little basketball when young.
I think there’s even film of the young BO on a basketball court.
To relax and recreate and look fit, he likes to get on the court even now, when he has a chance.
It was reported that on this trip he made some “three point “shots. That’s shooting from a greater distance from the basket than with with an ordinary two point shot.
There’s a line painted on the court, from beyond which your shot counts for three instead of two.
I don’t know how much boost Obama can get from his convention when the GOP convention follows just a few days later. That might have been a good strategic move by the Repubs. Obama’s speech is big news Friday, then by Sunday they will start previewing the Republican convention. Granted they are biased but even if the GOP event gets less enthusiastic coverage, it still will be in the news and might blunt some of the messiah’s glory.
Having said that though I do expect a godlike aura to surround the Demo nominee after he has given his acceptance speech on Aug. 28. Can you imagine the adulation he will get, even if it’s just for a couple of days? He will have those tens of thousands of screaming flunkies on camera at the football field and deliver a flowery speech full of hope and promise. To Obama’s media boosters, he will be as good as elected then.
These are amazingly strong numbers for McCain. Lots of people stubbornly refuse to drink the Obama kool-aid.
Thank you so much !

Obama MUST be defeated at the polls this November. Most Republicans realize this.
Thanks...perhaps the Bulls are looking for a new coach. ;)
“Bill Richardson was on Fox telling the Friends that there was NO bias with the NY Times...”
How’s that Vice President thing coming along, Bill?
Now THAT’s some change I’d like to believe in. (forgive the re-use of the bad grammar slogan).
C’mon Pubbies! Let’s win all 58 in 08!
Bill Richardson was on Fox telling the Friends that there was NO bias with the NY Times...
“Baghdad” Bill doing the Goebbels schtick for the Rat party once again.
Ahhhhhhh “Obama-mania” I can’t turn the stations fast enough!!!
The poll numbers are encouraging. But keep in mind this is a “national survey”, and that the contest itself will be decided state-by-state. Those poll numbers are far more important.
The Rasmussen page says it will release Ohio poll results at noon today. These results will be more telling.
I cannot fathom how Obama can actually be leading McCain in some [otherwise] very conservative states. This is NOT good news.
I predict this election will be VERY close, if McCain can win it at all. The debates may be a key - that is, IF Obama chooses to participate (I have predicted in previous postings that he may actually decline). If Obama holds his own in the debates, or scores more than one or two solid body blows on McCain, the election may be over.
In any case, I think we should prepare ourselves for BIG losses in both the Senate and the House. McCain may be “the man standing alone” against a rabidly-rat Congress in 2009.
I sense Republicans running for House seats could better their chances by introducing and running on “an energy future for America” - a promise to enact legislation to build coal, build nuclear, drill everywhere, open ANWR, etc. And make this a MAJOR talking point in ALL their campaigns. But they won’t....
Watch Rasmussen’s poll numbers for Ohio at noon. Ohio will be one of the “weathermen who know which way the wind is blowing” this time around....

Deep down inside I can’t help but feel that you are correct. My parents taught me that everything happens for a reason and sometimes what seems like a disaster turns out to be a blessing in disguise. Of course she also assured that whistling past the grave yard would protect me from ghosts. I’ve whistled past every grave yard I’ve encountered for nearly 66 years now and I’ve yet to see even a single ghost or apparition. Maybe it works!
...and that’s not a hard thing to do...
What's important, REALLY important, is that Barry can play baxetball (sic) and hit Three Pointers. That's the impression I got anyway from his MSM traveling circus.
One ditz reporterette even fainted just watching him dribble.
Oops wait a sec ... my bad ... that was Chris Matthews.
It’s funny that McCain wants to try to run a gentlemans camgaign. He would be better off just acting like himself, he would get more respect. He is a bit of an ass, it would best if he acted like it. Why pretend, if he was more honest about his real personality he would be more popular.
He is who he is and he should act like it! He would make more headway in the polls but of course the media would act shocked. Obama is a tough opponent though, he has a way about him, that people think he has the answers when the truth is he is really just an affirmative action candidate. He acts self-confident, but it is because everyone around him makes him think he is God’ gift to the Universe.
