Romney: A Mistake for McCain
Real Clear Politics ^ | 07/23/3008 | Dick Morris

Posted on 07/23/2008 5:33:00 PM PDT by JRochelle

You've probably heard the story about the tycoon who wanted to bring out a new kind of dog food.

He spent lavishly. He hired the best marketing person, the top PR firm, the best ad agency, the No. 1 packaging expert, the most powerful distributor -- but the sales were flat after six months.

He summoned his consultants to a meeting and asked why the food wasn't selling. "The dogs won't eat it," was the answer that came back.

And so it is with Mitt Romney. Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries, the dogs won't eat it. He lost Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and California. The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states; and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals couldn't spare the cash to advertise. Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.

And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries. Using his gigantic money advantage to dominate television, he seized early leads in virtually all of the primary states, only to lose them later on. And, when they started slipping away, he resorted to unfair, distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges.

“Only a bigoted, evangelical-hating mormon would makes such a comment. Please, tell me you’re not a mormon flack, Will.”

Screw you! I think the notion evangelicals won’t vote for a Mormon is something assumed but never really proven or well researched. Evangelicals just had Huckabee to move to during the primaries. Once they take a close look at Obama’s positions and take a closer look at Romney, they’ll know whom they share the most values with, easily.

And, are you some Mormon hating bigot, or just a damned fool to make that remark?

I’m a Southern Baptist, backslidden.

Sorry, but that’s a ridiculous comment. He’s our best Governor. They don’t come much better than him, notwithstanding the liberal CNN propaganda attack link posted by a paid Slick Willard agent, ConMan.

Dr. Williams was born 3/31/1936 in Philadelphia. I guess he is older than Senator McCain (8/29/1936).

LOL

Fred will not accept a tap for veep. However, I'm sure he'll have a prominent role in a McCain administration, thank God.......if he wants one.

McPain should consider himself luck if Mitt accepts.

NO ONE ELSE appears to want to RUN with McPain.

Mitt should be running for President; not McPain.

I agree.

McCain would be so lucky to get Romney to agree to be on the ticket.

But I’m sure Romney will accept. He will put personal preferences aside for the good of the country.

Just like he put personal ambitions aside to support McCain after the primaries.

“And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.”

I suppose the Huckster was charming to Mitt?

The bias and dislike of Mitt Mitt is over whelming. Perhaps he considers himself an evangelical.

Yeah, Slick Willard should be running as a rodent, the party he helped and whose leftist agenda he enacted in Boston.

It doesn’t matter. No one’s heard of him.

To others on this thread: Again I’d welcome any serious suggestions for a conservative alternative to Mitt Romney for VP with natural stature to help elect John McCain. No preaching to the choir.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!

Personal preferences ASIDE ? For the good of the country ? Slick Willard’s goal is the White House — by any means necessary ! He doesn’t give a pile of bat guano about the country, it’s all about himself !

That’s a bald faced lie.

If Romney’s goal is to get to the White House why did he suspend his campaign?

I don’t have any high expectations of you actually answering the question.. but I’ll ask it anyways.
