I was listening to Rush Limbaugh at lunch today, and he mentioned that Ms. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA) was castigating the President for failing to release any of the "700 million barrels" of oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (our emergency supply).
Guess what? Nancy has been preventing the production of a lot more than 700 million barrels of our oil, and she has been doing it for years.
Take a look here:
http://www.mms.gov/omm/pacific/offshore/oil-gaspdfs/2000-063.pdf
"Unproved reserves are estimated to be 1,316 million barrels of oil and 922 billion cubic feet of gas, in 25 fields."
That's ONE BILLION, THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN MILLION barrels that Ms. Pelosi (and her fellow Democrats, with the meager help of a few spineless California RINOs) is keeping off the US market. That's nearly TWICE the amount she accuses the President of keeping off the market.
(By the way, one of the fields Ms. Pelosi is personally preventing from producing gasoline and other products for the US market is a "giant oil field," with over 500 million barrels just by itself:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2047212/posts )
Of course, maybe a bunch of Pelosi's offshore oil has magically disappeared. A more recent report ( http://www.mms.gov/omm/pacific/offshore/2007-012.pdf ) states that:
"Unproved reserves are estimated to be 1,166 million barrels of oil and 490 billion cubic feet of gas, in 12 fields."
That's still a LOT more than Pelosi's hypocritical "700 million" figure. Shame on you, Nancy: we're not all Democrats out here, so you shouldn't assume that we're all idiots.
As for the decrease in unproved reserves and number of discovered fields - apparently the MMS changed their 'discovery' criteria. But with oil at $100 plus per barrel (and I'm obviously being generous), the 'old' reports noting that 38 oil and gas fields had been discovered are no doubt much more accurate than the 'new' 25 field report.
(Please also note, the "new" report that is supposedly limited to 25 fields, uses the same map [on page 8] showing 38 - not 25, but 38 - previously discovered fields that the earlier reports used. How nice is that? Bottomline: the fields are there, and the oil is there. The report dates to 2007 [after Ms. Pelosi proved that the 'Peter Principle' is in fact true], so I suspect Ms. Pelosi somehow 'dissappeared' 13 previously discovered, publicly-owned oil fields, just to make her wacko-anti-American-California-environmental-extremist supporters happy.)
Which simply highlights the fact that the federal government (primarily the Democrat-controlled Pelosi-Reid Congress) is literally hiding previously discovered American energy resources from the American people...
But Strategic Oil is “Magic Oil”, only it can lower trading prices! That plain old domestic oil just wont do!
Doesn’t matter, nothing will come of this. The media will not question her or call them out on this.
Must be nice to be infallible
Hello Friend. I have a John Galt 08 bumper sticker. I’m in durango. Where in Colorado might you be?
Because the strategic oil reserve is the only thing nancie can lay on the President.
That oil is for a REAL emergency, not the demonrats need to get reelected “emergency.”
Hey, Compadre! I'm not "John Galt," I just ask the question like everyone else.
I went to school in Durango many years ago (~30 years ago now), living in Wheat Ridge currently, with decades of world-class oil & gas experience, plus solid minerals experience, and way too d@mn much experience dealing with the federal government (& environmentalist wackos). And way too much gray hair - and getting more pessimistic as I get older.
I love civilization. I get faint at the sight of blood. But the older I get, and the more I see, the more sure I am that Mr. Jefferson was right...
Mr. Jefferson was right and I think I’ll participate. In fact, I almost relish the prospect.
Gas prices MUST be kept high for the election. It’s about the only thing that actually affects liberals and might motivate then to vote. As much as they whine about Iraq and so on, it doesn’t affect their daily lives in any way since they’re not personally involved.
Undeniably true.
Must be nice to be infallible
I wouldn't know, but apparently the pathologically lying D@mocrat establishment has it down.
You wonder if even one of them ever thinks about the consequences of their actions...
(Don't get me wrong - I sometimes miss out on the consequences of my own actions, before the fact. But, quite frankly, what the D@mocrats are pushing requires mind-altering drugs just to get you into the "I'll take a look at it, maybe, in my spare time, when I'm suicidal" category...)
That defines most so-called 'liberal' issues. ANWR? How many of the liberal @ssholes that are clamoring to "preserve" the place have ever seen it? A heck of a lot less than 1%, I would guess. They're just not personally involved (meaning they're friggin' clueless).
They're not "personally involved," very obviously, (and just as obviously, they don't have a freakin' clue), but they voice their idiotic political opinions, nevertheless. And according to them, we're supposed to pay attention.
Dream on...
I don’t know what the average cost of the 700 million barrels of oil in the strategic reserve is, but, I can bet Pelosi will sell it at the world price. And, government will reap a huge windfall profit. Whatever, the revenues will not be well spent.
July 24 We need an EMERGENCY ALERT THREAD
but this will have to do....
I am sick and tired of members of Congress playing games with the
American people — pretending to address the energy crisis but not
even allowing a real debate!
BREAKING NEWS: We just learned that Sen. Harry
Reid is blocking any amendments to his energy bill.
Reid will not allow a real vote on lifting the offshore
Drilling ban! A key vote is tomorrow. Please see below
and take action today!
From the Desk of:
Steve Elliott, President, Grassfire.org Alliance
7/24/2008
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is pushing for a vote tomorrow on his
version of an energy bill that does nothing to decrease our dependence
on foreign oil.
Reid’s bill does nothing to lift the offshore drilling ban, or open up
rich oil fields in northern Alaska, or expand our nuclear capacity.
Even worse...
Reid is using Senate rules to BLOCK any and all attempts to get a vote
on lifting the offshore drilling ban! This is classic hardball political
tactics and we need to strike back just as hard!
+ + Action Item #1 — Fax The Senate Now!
Reid is pushing for a “cloture” vote tomorrow (Friday) that will block
any amendments. That means we have very little time. Thats why I want
to flood every Senate office with faxes right now demanding that the
Senate have a real debate on the energy crisis — and pass a bill that
lifts the ban on offshore drilling BEFORE Congress takes its month-
long summer holiday.
Go here right now to schedule your faxes:
http://www.grassfire.net/r.asp?U=9431&CID=108&RID=17623090
Or send your own faxes. We have sample letters
and contact information for you at the above link.
+ + Action Item #2 — Call Harry Reid Now!
In addition, I want to flood Harry Reid’s offices with calls from
citizens demanding that he allow the Republican amendments be heard
to his energy bill. We must shut down the phone lines in the Senate!
TALKING POINTS:
#1 I am outraged that Sen. Reid is pushing for a “cloture” vote
on S. 3268 without allowing amendments to be heard.
#2 The energy crisis deserves a real debate in Congress. I want
Sen. McConnell’s proposed amendments to be debated.
#3 I demand that Congress take action to lift the ban on drilling
on the Outer Continental Shelf BEFORE Congress takes its month-
long summer holiday.
PHONE NUMBERS:
Sen. Harry Reid: DC —202-224-5556 or 202-224-3542
Nevada numbers: 702-388-5020, 775-686-5750, 775-882-7343
Thank you for taking action!
Steve
P.S. Again, the key vote is expected to take place tomorrow.
Please forward this message and alert your friends.
P.P.S. A reminder—we are delivering petitions EVERY DAY to Sen. Reid’s
office. Thank you for signing the petition! Your voice is being
represented!
Maybe she needs to put a 'windfall profits tax' on herself - and I'm not just referring to the SPR profits for Uncle Sam. I mean Ms. Nancy-the-Hypocrit personally. Frankly, she should not even collect a salary - all she does is work against the best interests of the people of these United States. Pelosi is just another hyper-hypocritical 'mega-champagne-socialist' like Kennedy, and the Clintons ($300 million plus, at last count), and Boxer (millionaire), and Feinswein (millionaire), and etc.(millionaire), etc.(millionaire), etc. (millionaire)...
So much for the "little" guy - in the D@mocrat party, you're only represented if your brain is sufficiently "little" to empower the multi-millionaire parasites that run the D@mocrat party...
Which simply highlights the fact that the federal government (primarily the Democrat-controlled Pelosi-Reid Congress) is literally hiding previously discovered American energy resources from the American people...
"Mr. Speaker, 17 days ago, the Congress called upon the President to free our oil from a government stockpile known as the Strategic Petroleum Reserve."
Nancy it is not our oil, we had to purchase it from a foriegn country becuase you and your moonbat environmnetal wackos in congress are blocking domestic oil production, NANCY FREE OUR OIL
...the federal government (primarily the Democrat-controlled Pelosi-Reid Congress) is literally hiding previously discovered American energy resources
That should have read:
...the federal government (that's the Democrat-controlled Pelosi-Reid Congress) is literally hiding previously discovered American oil and gas fields, including giant oil fields OVER 500 MILLION BARRELS, from the American people...
It's Nancy's own publicly available data - what could she possibly complain about (other than being proved to be a complete liar?)
Anything I send to that email addy gets bounced back...it’s probably full or they killed it because of all the grief she’s been getting...Phone Calls work best.
