Boehner calls Dems' energy bill 'joke'

U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner Thursday called the Democrats' efforts to free up the strategic oil reserve a joke.

At his weekly news conference, Boehner, R-Ohio, said Democrats have been making one excuse after another for why we can't have more American-made energy.

Boehner, fresh from trips to Colorado to inspect oil shale reserves and Alaska where he looked at conditions in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, said tapping those reserves would not lead to environmental catastrophe.

The only people standing in the way of this are (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi, (Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid and (Democratic presidential hopeful) Barack Obama, who are scared to death that their drilling vote might actually occur and pass the House, Boehner charged, calling their leadership negligent.

And they're blocking this vote because they know it would pass.

Turning to the measure freeing up the strategic oil reserve, Boehner said: This bill is a joke. Come on! We're going to take 20 million barrels of light crude and we're going to exchange it for $20 billion of heavy crude. This is not an energy bill! This is not going to produce any more American-made energy. It's not going to bring down prices. It's just another excuse to avoid having a real vote on the House floor.

With more than 70% of the public supporting expanded domestic exploration and drilling, including in ANWR and OCS, it’s time for SanFranNan to stop blocking the introduction, debate and action on legislation to remove federal restrictions. I believe her continued power play is bordering on treasonous, in this national security crisis.
Same for Harry the Rat, in the Senate.

These LibTard idjits need to be removed from office...forcibly, if necessary.

it is a joke-taking oil from the reserves.

you’d think the average dick and jane who are angry about gas prices would see that.

yet, on talk radio, dick and janes call in and when asked who they blame?

they blame president bush and big oil!

unbelievable.

Hey, don’t be so hard on Bella and Dingy. The more they tap dance, obfuscate, delay and fester, the more prices will go up.

This provides the pubbies, if they’ll grow a pair, a huge hammer to beat then over the head with.

If there’s anyplace in the nation with gas over $4 come November, IMHO, that could make quite a difference.

The RATS want high prices so they can claim, “Bush’s fault.” But the pubbies (may) slam them for not voting to drill since a vote like that would cause an immediate drop in the oil futures market.

Round and round we go. The RATS are slimes.

Don’t waste your time. Here is the response I got back from Babs (dumber than a box of rocks) Boxer:

Thank you for contacting me regarding high gasoline prices. I appreciate the opportunity to hear your views on this important issue, and I share your concerns.

Gasoline prices reached an all-time high this year, and costs for food and other basic necessities are rising drastically. As millions of Americans struggle under this increasing burden, oil companies continue to report massive, record-breaking profits - $123 billion last year alone. This is unacceptable, and I want to assure you that I am working hard to lower prices and protect Americans from price gouging.

I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of S.3044, the Consumer-First Energy Act of 2008. This important bill would impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies to discourage price gouging and to help consumers offset the high costs of energy products, punish any country or company colluding in setting the price of oil, and limit excessive speculation in oil markets. Unfortunately, the Senate minority has blocked further consideration of S.3044.

In addition, I strongly support S.3268, the Stop Excessive Energy Speculation Act of 2008. This vital legislation would help to lower energy prices by increasing regulation of energy futures trading and eliminating excessive speculation. S.3268 would provide more staff, resources, and authority for the Commodities Future Trading Commission, the agency charged with regulating commodity futures. This bill is currently being considered by the full Senate.

At a time when so many Americans are struggling to make ends meet and having to make the impossible choice between buying food for their families and filling up the gas tank, it is crucial that we pass both S.3044 and S.3268.

Opening up drilling in the United States is not the best way to achieve lower gas prices. For example, drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) would provide us with six months of oil at most, and at great cost. Furthermore, it would be more than a decade before we saw any of that oil. Ultimately, we need to move away from our dependence on oil and gasoline by developing renewable and efficient energy technologies. Right now, we need to go after the big oil companies that are holding Americans hostage with their exorbitantly high prices.

Americans deserve better than oil companies that gouge consumers in order to make huge profits, and Congress needs to take action to help alleviate this crisis. Rest assured, I will continue working for the passage of S.3044 and S.3268, and I will keep fighting to help Americans enjoy fair and reasonable energy prices.

Again, thank you for writing to me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future on this or other issues that concern you.

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

What will be the cost of the Democrat "No Domestic Energy Policy?"

All of that puts the U.S. in a position that war for oil or
complete economic collapse are our only choices.
You can't frustrate every source of domestic energy
without consequences. Our enemies will blackmail us
to the extent that we are vulnerable to blackmail.

Are the Democrats trying to force us into a real war for oil?
