A Covenant With Life: Reclaiming MLKs Legacy By Dr. Alveda C. King Niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. America has entered into a covenant or a culture of death. May God have mercy, and restore us to a covenant of life! <snip>
"My grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr., or Daddy King, was a Republican and father of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican."
<snip> Moved by Mrs. Kings gratitude for Senator Kennedys intervention, Daddy King was very grateful to Senator Kennedy for his assistance in rescuing Dr. King, Jr. from a life threatening jail encounter. This experience led to a black exodus from the Republican Party. Thus, this one simple act of gratitude caused black America to quickly forget that the Republican Party was birthed in America as the antislavery party to end the scourge of slavery and combat the terror of racism and segregation. They quickly forgot that the Democratic Party was the party of the Ku Klux Klan. Banished from memory was the fact that the Democratic Party fought to keep blacks in slavery and in 1894 overturned the civil rights laws of the 1860s that had been passed by Republicans, after the Republicans also amended the Constitution to grant blacks freedom, citizenship and the right to vote. Promises of freebies?
“My grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr., or Daddy King, was a Republican and father of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican.”
I take it you have a reading comprehension problem, the second part of the sentence says Jr. was a republican also." was a Republican and father of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was a Republican.
Now that means Jr. was also a republican as well as SR.
Yes Freebies. Free speech. Free to vote without intimidation. Free to eat at the local burger joint. Free to attend state universities.
I think we should replace New Year’s Day with that.
All New Year’s Day does is get people drunk. Garand saved lives (and ended many, too).
I have heard it said often that promises of government handouts ... money.. and perceptions of power is why they changed parties..
A remember a thread some time ago where you debunked this.
All those freebies were the result of the Civil Rights Act—which was introduced by Republicans in 1958, and passed in 1964 by the almost-unanimous Republicans over the opposition of the majority of Democrats in the House and Senate.
I did, but Dr. Alveda King clarified the point that was lacking in articles written in the past few years. Her grandfather, MLK, Sr. was a Republican prior to the 1960 election and was a Dem for the rest of his life. Junior was a bit more ambiguous, but he favored a federal/big government approach to solving the problems of the Black community and clearly had no use for Conservative Republicanism (and excoriated Goldwater, despite Goldie being pro-Civil Rights, though was anti-CRA because he thought it would be disastrous and a ghastly overstepping of bounds from a Constitutional standpoint, which in hindsight, it has been). Alveda King herself served as a Democrat in the GA state legislature before she became a Republican in the past decade.
That ought to drive the left crazy! LOL
thanks for the link.
