The (Spiegel) article ("No. 44 has spoken")'s premise was that an Obama victory is a foregone conclusion: "Anyone who saw Barack Obama at Berlin's Siegessaule on Thursday could recognize that this man will become the 44th president of the United States."

Later that day, I read a report of a fund-raising letter from Obama on behalf of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, arguing that "We must have a deadlock-proof Democratic majority."

Yikes.

But then it occurred to me that one man's "deadlock-proof" Democratic majority is another's unchecked Democratic majority.

And McCain will then assert that if you don't like the Congress in which Senator Obama serves in the majority right now, you really should be alarmed about a President Obama rubber-stamping the deeds of a Democratic Congress next year. A President McCain, on the other hand, could check Congressional appetites - as well as work across the aisle with a Democratic Congress in a bipartisan spirit where appropriate.

Did anyone notice that both the San Fran Chronicle AND NYT’s issues are both saying “good things” about McCain today? Is today “let’s be nice to Republicans” day for the MSM?

Very good article - and a balance in government is a good reason to vote for McCain.

Imagine ... BO as POTUS, House and Senate with a Dem majority. Unchecked. Unbalanced. Yikes!

It’s important to remember that if Obama wins it’s almost assured that Democrats gain in both houses as well. There are conceivable situations in which McCain wins the election narrowly but Republicans lose seats, but if Obama wins it means Democratic wins across the board.

The MSM Beleives that A$$ HAT Obama is unstoppable, or they want that projected.

Americans are not so easily fooled or fueled either these days.

Things are about to get very hot in this campaign, and Hillary [Arkanacide] Clinton is still in the mix.

"Don't Taze me bro.!" is about to become the cliche of the Dem convention.

Pelosi and Reid have made vile enemies of businessmen, industrialists, and workers across the nation on the energy policy debacle. They are ideologues in a time when hard practical decisions on oil exploration MUST be made. They need to be blamed for the hurting wallets of America. If that sticks, there will be no large majority of Dems in the house or in the Senate. That is gonna hurt them big.

The two items Americans want to hear about are Illegal Aliens and Energy Policy. So far, the Dems are completely backrupt.

McCain does NOT have the Latino vote and will not get it. Its time for him to do what Americans want: " Control the Borders." and " DRILL!!" If he does those two things, he will win the presidency.

Come on John, ANTE UP!

Germans (Spiegel) are bright in Science and Mechanical Engineering but dreadfully stupid in just about anything having to due with politics, government, etc. Most Germans despite 50 years of tutoring from the U.S. still don't understand politics. Obama’s speech was a joke. He said nothing about nothing but this is probably enough to fool the types of fools in the audience in Berlin. “Citizen of the World” What tripe! Only a magazine like Spiegel could be so stupid as to be fooled by this type of nonsense. Maybe we should not have protected them from 1945 to 1989. They seem to have learned nothing.

We must do more than just “be afraid”. We must be radically, aggressive.

We’ve got to stop B. Hussein from being elected. As a grassroots effort, we can all utilize the internet; e-mails, YouTube, blogs, websites, etc.

BE AFRAID ENOUGH TO BE BOLDLY ASSERTIVE.

We’ll just have to push back.

Spoken like a person who hasn't suffered under one party 'rat rule. In 2006 the GOP lost the Oregon House, giving the Dems control of the legislature and the Governorship. It hasn't been pretty since the Oregonian newspaper is just an extension of the Dem party here. It's turning into a socialist bastion with global warming hysteria and gay marriage and other stupidity running rampant here.

Is today “let’s be nice to Republicans” day for the MSM?

The article was written by Bill Kristol, the token ( well somewhat) conservative at the NYT. They hired him in order not to totally vanish from the market. Kristol is a McCain supporter since... uh... at least 2006.

Here, Here!!!!. It is also legislation form the bench here. In ‘04 we voted against Gay marriage. Went to court. Was overturned. (Voters don't matter) Stayed tied up in court, and then (like you said) House/Senate went Dim in ‘06 and they passed and hoisted Gay marriage on a majority that voted against it.

Welcome the to the most beautiful BLUE state in the Union.
Gay marriage, legalized marijuana, euthanasia and no parental consent. If left unchecked and unbalanced, it gets REAL screwed up, REAL fast.

What sucks is, if we could drop Portland into the Pacific, we would be a RED state.

Am I the only FReeper who thinks Obamas speech was really thin around the ends and especially in the middle.

Obama’s whole orchestrated talk seemed plasticized.

I no long have a Crissy Matthews trickle down the leg moment when Obama speaks...err reads off the teleprompter.

This is by far McCain’s best line of attack. The surge stuff is good but the McCain camp needs to get going on emphasizing the threat of Obama and a Democratic Congress working together.
