Barack Obama's campaign is blasting John McCain for putting "the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency." The scathing description of Sarah Palin, from Obama spokesman Bill Burton, comes as Democrats scramble to gather a response to a selection that nobody in the political world expected. "Governor Palin shares John McCain's commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush's failed economic policies -- that's not the change we need, it's just more of the same," added Burton. Democrats will likely push the...

Cable news and the Net are buzzing and twittering about Barack Obama's big speech tonight at Invesco Field. The Drudge Report solemnly proclaims "Speech of a lifetime." Voters watching the DNC saga this week, roughly 10 percent of tube watchers, should double or triple for tonight's marquee performance. Obama's folks feel the tingle of a 15% temporary convention bounce coming. CNN has taken to calling the physical staging of the speech the Barack-Opolis because the multiple Greek columns that will serve as the backdrop to the podium - which will literally rise from the floor - where Obama will deliver...

With more than 140 boxes having been released by The University of Chicago, it has come to light that Barack Obama worked quite closely with William Ayers in the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Ayers secured a 50-million dollar grant to fund this challenge and Obama headed it up. Obama's Illinois Senate campaign was kicked off at Ayers home, Obama served with Ayers on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge with Obama heading it up, and Obama recently said that Ayers was "mainstream" and "respectable." Obama as an adult, not when he was 8 yrs old, chose to closely associate with Ayers - a...

August 27, 2008, 8:00 a.m. Obama’s AimDespite the rhetoric, the candidate opposes gun rights. By David Freddoso Denver — In 2007, Senator Barack Obama stood up for a gun owner. He endorsed Chicago Alderman Dorothy Tillman in her Democratic primary. Not only was she a gun owner, but she had even pulled a gun on her colleagues during a contentious 1991 ward redistricting hearing, according to eyewitnesses. Tillman, best known for demanding to be served by black (not white) waiters, and for advocating reparations for slavery, narrowly lost her race despite Obama’s support. It would be only a slight...

On the same night his party highlighted its plans to secure America's future, a new poll suggested Barack Obama voters are not sold on his capabilities to be commander in chief. The poll conducted by CNN/Opinion Research suggests voters are not as confident in Mr. Obama on national security issues as they are in Mr. McCain. While 58 percent responded they believed Mr. Obama was capable of assuming the responsibilities of commander in chief, 78 percent held the same view toward Mr. McCain. Fifty-one percent of those polled viewed Mr. McCain as a stronger leader, as opposed to 41 percent...

Some Clinton Donors Are Contributing to McCain Dozens of Prominent Fundraisers Have Donated over $200,000 in Last Few Months Some of Hillary Clinton's most fervent supporters are taking their enthusiasm – and their campaign contributions – to John McCain. More than a dozen of Hillary Clinton's fundraisers have contributed to John McCain's campaign in the last few months. More than 85 of Clinton's fundraisers, including Donald Trump, Univision chief executive Joseph Uva, cable mogul Charles Dolan, philanthropist Norma Hess and one of Florida's biggest lobbyists appear to be skipping Barack Obama when it comes to writing checks for the general...

While the Obama coronation proceeds apace in Denver, it is in Chicago that Americans are getting a disturbing demonstration of his thuggish methods of stifling criticism. Stanley Kurtz, a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, is a Harvard-educated social anthropologist and frequent contributor to National Review, among other publications. He is widely respected for his meticulous research and measured commentary. For months, he has been doing the job the mainstream media refuses to do: examining the background and public record of Barack Obama, the first-term senator Democrats are about to make their nominee for president despite the...

You heard it here first: The Democratic Convention in Denver will go down as a disaster the likes of which have not been seen since Patrick Buchanan's 1992 speech to Republicans in Houston. It's hard to know what Senator Obama was thinking. After returning from speaking to a large outdoor rally in Germany, he headed to Hawaii for a vacation. Meanwhile, the candidate of "change" somehow managed to allow the first night of his convention to be dominated by Senator Kennedy, who ran for president in 1980 and who has been in the Senate since 1962. Mr. Obama allowed the...

Barack Obama’s decision to consider whether a special US envoy to Northern Ireland was still necessary puts progress in the North “at risk”, his Republican rival John McCain’s campaign has said. Mr McCain said the move showed the Democrat’s “total lack of experience and profoundly poor judgment on matters of foreign policy” and was further evidence that the Illinois senator was “simply not ready to lead”. Mr Obama said he would review whether an envoy or senior administration official would be most effective 10 years after the Good Friday peace agreement enshrined political power-sharing in the North. Brian Rogers, a...

He told reporters, “If anyone says anything about my surname, I say we are not related. I am...

Brian Williams to Michelle Obama: 'What Makes You Angriest' at GOP? By Scott Whitlock Created 2008-08-28 11:18 Brian Williams, NBC, "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams conducted an embarrassingly fawning interview with Michelle Obama on Wednesday's program regarding the subject of nasty Republicans and just how exciting the Democratic campaign is. At one point, he sympathetically questioned the politician's wife, "What of the attacks have busted through to you? What makes you angriest at John McCain, the Republicans? What's being said about your husband that you want to shout from the mountain tops is not true?" More of the gushing...

As if a Rocky Mountain coronation were not lofty enough, Barack Obama will aim for Mount Olympus when he accepts his party's nomination atop an enormous, Greek-columned stage - built by the same cheesy set team that put together Britney Spears' last tour... ..."We've done Britney's sets and a whole bunch of rock shows, but this was far more elaborate and complicated and we had to do it in far less time," said Allen, of RDA Entertainment... ...Asked who is harder to sat isfy - the Democrats or Britney - Allen replied: "I better not answer that."

Obama never shrank from making policy or pronouncements regarding abortion, nor did he take the logical, compassionate and humane default position, which is to say that since I don’t know whether this being is human, I’ll err on the side of caution. It’s interesting to hear the euphemisms bandied about in campaigns. After Barack Obama’s and John McCain’s appearance a week ago at Saddleback Church, for instance, the former’s ardent supporters were as effusive in their praise as ever. His stammering and copious “uhs” weren’t signs of a befuddled and muddled mind, but of “thoughtfulness” and “nuanced” thinking. Yeah, sure,...

The Obama campaign has tonight again demonstrated that it will try to silence voices with which it does not agree. This should chill all Americans, for it offers a preview of the tactics to which a President Obama might harness the power of the federal government. The means chosen include harassment of television stations running the 527 group Ayers ad, a demand for a Justice Department investigation, and just last night, disruption of a radio talk show in Chicago that dared have Dr. Stanley Kurtz of National Review, who has been examining the archives of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, in...

What does Barack Obama’s selection of Senator Biden portend for his future appointments and the future of the American family? Tragically — but true to the radical feminist agenda — the Obama/Biden Democratic ticket portends an escalating war on boys, men, fathers, and families. On Father’s Day 2008, Senator Obama could have spoken on any number of topics. His choice was to castigate African-American fathers and blame fathers, and fathers alone, for the ills of the African-American family. He called upon African-American fathers to be more involved in their children’s lives (certainly a worthwhile call) but he also castigated them...

“Slimy.” “Smear merchant.” “Character assassin.” This kind of name-calling tends to undermine an argument against character assassination, especially when the argument comes with no supporting evidence at all. Yet the Barack Obama campaign feels comfortable with this kind of ad hominem attack on Stanley Kurtz as a means to get him silenced: The campaign e-mailed Chicago supporters who had signed up for the Obama Action Wire with detailed instructions including the station’s telephone number and the show’s extension, as well as a research file on Kurtz, which seems to prove that he’s a conservative, which isn’t in dispute. The file...

Joe Scarborough and the rest of the Morning Joe crew actually had my sympathy this morning. Amidst all the infighting at MSNBC, including demands for Joe's head in Olbermann-friendly circles, one could sense that the panel was on its best behavior. During the opening hour, a subdued David Shuster—who had openly fought with Joe just two days ago—was there, but just barely. Scarborough himself could not have been more enthusiastic in his praise for yesterday's DNC proceedings, from Bill's speech to the historic fact of the nomination of an African-American. But if my impulse is to cut the Morning Joe...

THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION exposed the central defect of Senator Barack Obama's candidacy: the absence of compelling evidence he is up to the job of president. The exposé comes courtesy of a bad habit of his running mate, Senator Joe Biden. When in doubt, Mr. Biden exaggerates. And in the past week, he did a lot. Voters expect candidates to embellish, but only so much. Go beyond acceptable stretching and a candidate may squander his most precious political possession: credibility. Mr. Obama may be on this perilous path. Last Saturday, America heard Mr. Obama's new running mate exclaim, "I watch...

Recently, it was reported that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama proclaimed that America was not a Christian nation. He stated that Christianity was just one of many religions that were prevalent in America today. Of course, Senator Obama’s proclamation was just one of many subtle and subversive attacks against Christianity that have surfaced in America recently. Secularists of all ideological beliefs are attempting to evict the God of Christianity out of America. Basically, they want America to become a godless nation, a nation without absolute moral truths and godly standards to follow.

Joe Biden seems to want to discuss Barack Obama's accomplishments in Illinois, but perhaps Joe Biden has failed to recognize the the fiscal and economic health of Illinois is far from perfect and in 'shambles' after years of control by the same Chicago Political Machine that produced Senator Obama. According to Biden, "Because Barack made that choice, 150,000 more children and parents have health care in Illinois. He fought to make that happen. And because Barack made that choice, working families in Illinois pay less taxes and more people have moved from welfare to the dignity of work. He got...

Contrary to all the political rhetoric that's been on the airwaves in the past weeks and months, it seems that some revisions are in order. That is, the U.S. economy is rebounding like crazy. The 2nd quarter of 2008 is now showing a 3.3% growth rate, owing, in large part to the stimulus checks that went out earlier this year. (read more: http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/economy/economy-boosted-exports-q-economy-expands/) Oh sure, the mainstream media would like the public to think that the economy has tanked. If that were true, which it isn't, then the liberals could run around the country again saying, "It's the economy, stupid."...

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on Sen. Bob Casey, Jr.’s speech last night at the Democratic National Convention:“It was billed as the breakthrough moment: the Democratic National Convention, which prohibited Gov. Bob Casey, Sr. from making a pro-life speech at the 1992 Convention, allowed his son to speak last night on the subject. But what happened? Casey blew it: The best he could do was to offer the standard cliché about promoting the ‘common good’ by seeking ‘common ground.’ “Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. never settled for a ‘common ground’ approach to fight racism—he sought to win. Similarly, Gov....

"80% of America thinks we are on the wrong track" is a favorite rant by MSNBC pundits out to help Democrats this election. But what does it really mean? It means that 70% of Democrats are unhappy because a Republican is the President of the United States, 70% of Republicans are unhappy because Democrats now control Congress, and 100% of Independents are fed up with both parties. Why the looney left somehow thinks this 80% wrong track sells as an indictment of Republicans is beyond me. I guess they think we are stupid.

DENVER -- When Barack Obama feeds rhetorical fishes and loaves to the multitudes in the football stadium Thursday night, he should deliver a message of sufficient particularity that it seems particularly suited to Americans. One more inspirational oration, one general enough to please Berliners or even his fellow "citizens of the world," will confirm Pascal's point that "continuous eloquence wearies." That is so because it is not really eloquent. If it is continuous, it is necessarily formulaic and abstract, vague enough for any time and place, hence truly apposite for none. If Socrates had engaged in an interminable presidential campaign...

BARACK OBAMAWhile We're on the Subject Bomb-Builders...A little while back, I sat down with the producers of the anti-Obama documentary “Hype.” Today they’re releasing a section dealing with William Ayers on YouTube. Barack Obama's campaign plans to relaunch his "urban agenda" Monday in what people close to the strategy say is an effort to assure urban leaders and voters of the Democratic nominee's commitment to cities and minorities without alienating skeptical white voters. The plan features an increase in the minimum hourly wage, a new White House office focused on metropolitan areas and $60 billion to establish a national bank to finance public-works projects. The campaign didn't give a total cost for the plan, but the 32-page blueprint that will be released during a meeting of the Democratic Party's African-American caucus includes...

Campaigns usually collapse because of gaffes -- off-the-cuff actions that accidentally reveal the true nature of candidates. And the Barack Obama campaign has had more than its share of revealing gaffes: Obama’s statement that rural voters turn to God, guns and racism because they have no jobs; his explanation that proper tire gauge use would fix high gas prices; his self-aggrandizing exhortation that he has “become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions”; his associations with Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers and Tony Rezko; the list goes on and on. But gaffes are not the...

Between Maureen Dowd's column of this morning and Norah O'Donnell's questioning of an Obama spokesman this afternoon, it looks like Barack's halo is losing its glow in some MSM sectors. Obama spokesman Bill Burton was O'Donnell's guest just after 3 PM EDT, and she read to him from Dowd's column, which he jokingly professed not to have read. NORAH O'DONNELL [reading Dowd]: "Ed Rendell compared Obama to the passive-aggressive Adlai Stevenson and told the Washington Post that Obama gives six-minute answers and "is not exactly the easiest guy in the world to identify with." Boos from the pro-Obama crowd in...

First Amendment? Secret Ballots? Fuggetaboutit! Labor unions have a lot at stake in 2008. The AFL-CIO’s PAC is spending $53M to help elect Barack Obama. More is being spent on behalf of Democratic incumbents and challengers in House and Senate seat races. There is nothing dearer to the hearts of Big Labor than securing the White House and a filibuster-proof Senate majority to help them obtain their number one legislative priority: the Orwellian named Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). And Big Labor will stop at nothing, not even the First Amendment, to achieve their aims....

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton released her remaining convention delegates on Wednesday as Democrats were poised to formally deliver the party's presidential nomination to Barack Obama, making him the first black nominee of a major party. McCain might not know how many houses his wife's trust fund owns because their finances are separate but Obama doesn't know how many abandoned, broken down apartment buildings he and Rezko scammed his constituents with. Rezko never did and now Rezko is in jail and we cannot afford to let Obama have control of the White House . . . (see ad video at link)

Anyone who thinks the media have been balanced and unbiased during the current election simply hasn't been paying attention. Barack Obama has benefitted from adoring coverage, a lack of journalistic rigor, and a sizeable advantage in media coverage. In short, everything in the media seems to break his direction. Large parts of the American public already recognize this. According to a recent study by Rasmussen Reports, 50 percent of independent voters and even 27 percent of Democrats believe that the media are trying to help Obama win. Just 12 percent of independents said the media were helping John McCain. This...
