Virginia Illegal Immigration: Crime skyrockets in 1 county, plummets right next door
World Net Daily ^ | July 27, 2008

WASHINGTON – One of the wealthiest counties in America reports crime skyrocketing by 22 percent in the first quarter of 2008, while its neighbor saw crime plummet by 19.3 percent in the same time period – coinciding with a get-tough policy on illegal immigration.

Prince William County in Northern Virginia, a bedroom community for the nation's capital, made national news late last year with a crackdown on illegal immigration that supervisors believed was triggering higher crime and lower living standards.

Prince William County reported a 19.3 percent decline in crime, with chairman of the Board of County Supervisors Corey Stewart attributing the downturn to the hard line the county has taken toward illegal immigrants.

"One quarter doesn't tell us a lot," said county police spokeswoman Mary Ann Jennings. "It shows us where they may be some trends developing."

Good morning, donna.

When a person earns X amount of money for a consecutive number of years, it’s human nature to have his/her standard of living rise...or lower accordingly.

The same natural human condition was a large factor in explaining the current foreclosure mess.

When ‘cousin Pedro’ calls or writes back to his extended family in Mexico or Central America with photos of his new car, his new home, his big smile...you’d be 2nd guessing yourself if you didn’t pick up and go to the USA yourself.

They did.

All these illegals that were renting out bedrooms from friends or relatives have lost their jobs...either through governmental crackdown...or by the housing bust.

They are no longer drywalling, painting, laying carpet, landscaping, etc..

Once the rent can’t be paid, the mortgage can’t be paid.

It’s very easy for people to point fingers and dismiss it as poor management of their finances...but having read your posts all these years...I know you’re too smart for that.

This is a tragedy. A human and economic tragedy.

And then some wonder why Hispanics lean toward the Rat Party.....{{{SIGH}}}

Shouldn’t this have been reported in the WaPo?

This morning's paper, front page, right side, above the fold.

The liberal solution would be to end the crackdown so that the disparity (and the cause) wouldn’t be so obvious.

>>>And just how many good Freepers would steal and/or break some laws when you are homeless and hungry and out of work?<<<

As a fairfax resident, I can safely say they’re not stealing from the local Safeway or Giant.

It really nauseates me that some who are supposedly “compassionate” think that the majority of those facing “hard luck” or “good luck” had no hand in the results they’re facing, nor have any responsibility to get themselves out of it.

>>>>>This is a tragedy. A human and economic tragedy.<<<<

No it’s not, it’s simply flouting of U.S. laws by illegals who’ve learned they can get away with it.

If I get caught in Thailand or Malaysia with no passport, visa, ID, or means of support, you would not call it “a tragedy”.

In fact I’ll bet you would sympathize with their prosecution of me as a criminal, the ensuing fine, and rather immediate deportation back to the States as well as a 10 year ban on return to those countries.

I was returning with my liberal spouse from a delightful afternoon/evening in Michigan. The local radio had dropped one Billy Cunningham at 10pm. I got him with my car radio at 1100 WTAM Cleveland.

First off, a gentleman talking on the subject here posted with Billy. I noted the names Prince William County and Fairfax County. What needs to be mentioned and again and again reveals human nature is certainly the same in England and Canada.

When the authorities took measures ie: clamp down on get rich quick rental merchants who cram in illegals. Next survey and discourage the scads of illegals gathering at given points for their cheap labour. Then start in on identification of miscreants. It followed that certain politicians in neigbouring counties cried out in disagreement.

The old r word was used. The rest was left to the imagination about the self righteous condemnation. Now for the joker.

What to do when the adverse situation moves to their pristine residential areas? How do they then face their own constituents?

The man informing Billy Cunningham, chuckled about virtually being "one foot in Fairfax and one foot in Prince William County". The man on the spot.

Well gee whiz, angkor!! Why were they 'getting away with it'?

The immigration laws are broken.

They've not been enforced diligently for decades.

Do YOU ever drive over the posted speed limit of 55 mph? Or are you the one that drives in the far left lane and refuses to move over?

B. Hussein and Juan’s solution is to make them all citizens, then there won’t be anymore problems.

This morning's paper, front page, right side, above the fold.

It's not in the early edition I grabbed at 4 am. There's an article complaining about PW Co. reporting foreign-born inmates to ICE. Nary a word about crime stats.

Perhaps, you meant ‘The United States’.

America extends from Alaska/Canada to Chile/Argentina.

A common problem with those with tunnel vision. You’re forgiven. ;^)

“And just how many good Freepers would steal and/or break some laws when you are homeless and hungry and out of work?”

Most of these new immigrants are NONE of those things, and you know it. Let ‘em steal from you for a change, they’ve cost me over a million dollars and the security of my family. Stop giving MY stuff away to suit your liberal agenda.

No. I DON'T know that.

And neither do you.

Do you reside in the Washington, DC Region. AuntB? I do.

Do your homework and stop posting on emotion.

And just how many good Freepers would steal and/or break some laws when you are homeless and hungry and out of work?

You left out that they are illegally squatting in a nation where they don't belong.

I sincerely hope we don’t find out.

I sincerely hope neither you nor any of your loved ones are among the thousands of Americans killed, raped, and robbed every year by illegal aliens.

None of the illegal immigrants are wearing Dorothy’s red shoes...where you simply click your heels to go back home.

They seem to have no trouble clicking those ruby slippers and transporting themselves from Tijuana or Guatemala City to Fairfax, Virginia. If they need a ride home, all they have to do is turn themselves in to the immigration service. They'll arrange the transportation.

Personally I think the best way to end this plague is not to target individuals, though that is important and must be done. The best way to fight this and what I think the central aspect of any attempt to get rid of these people should be is to go after employers aggressively. Take away their access to jobs and you will fewer people enter the US and more selfdeport.

I agree- the idea of large-scale deportations is not politically feasible. Americans would not like to see illegals rounded up en masse and put on buses.

But the strategy of making it difficult for them to keep living in our society will work very well in the long-term. Require proof of citizenship to obtain government services. Impose heavy fines on employers who hire illegals. Every time an illegal is arrested, he should be deported (after his criminal sentence, if applicable). And so on. Over time, it will just become too difficult for illegals to live in this country, and they will sell-deport.
