5 Things in 100 days McCain could do to win...
Townhall ^ | July 28, 2008 | Kevin McCullough

1. Insist extension of the federal tax cuts, expose Obama's plan and the damage that undoing the cuts would have on families making between $40-$100,000 a year...

2. Strongly back the Arizona, Florida, and California marriage amendments - not on religious grounds, but on democratic grounds, "the people shall be self-determined." (Also putting all three states closer to the individual win column. But he needs media on it and the commercial has to point out Obama was for man/woman marriage before he was against it...

3. 50,000 troops at the southern border... (NEW JOBS)

4. A window of time, and a limited number of "forgivenesses" to the first 200,000 illegals to apply for worker ID cards. (All applicants beyond that subject to current immigration law - including deportation. Thus it puts the honus on the illegal to come forward and to COMPETE for a spot to stay.)

5. Expose Obama's flip-floppery on the National Security issue...

These issues should be the core of the McCain campaign and if he would only rally the "'roots" on them - he would win... perhaps big.

I'm not personally all that much in favor of number 4. But I think some of the wrong can be overcome by limiting it to roughly the set number of people that legally migrate to the nation per year, AND by making it a free market - competition, self-responsibility issue, AND a law enforcement assistance issue all three in one.

I dont know, I think it is a big issue. My mom doesnt take many political issues seem liberal at times, early 60’s. Anyway she is voting for Mccain. But I was talking to her on line she mentioned something about the illegals in the area. I said I am going to get a La Migra hat, she said what is that. I said the mexicans call border patrol “la Migra”. She said she wanted one too. Then a few days later she asked if I bought the hat yet, I said, I havent found one but I can probably get it made.

Duncan Hunter makes Bob Dole look energized. There is a reason he got only slightly more votes than I did in the Presidential primaries.

I dont know how you got the chance to see him during the primaries, which is part of the problem, but I did see a few of his appearencces on youtube, I was impressed. Mccain,Rudy and Romney were in the bag a long time ago, the media foisted these rinos on the GOP and too many republicans like popularity contest OOO cnn says mccain is the only that can beat obama. bah a good conservative would wax the florr with obama. Mccain will probably beat obama in a squeaker and thats with most of the real conservatives not voting for him

I'd love to see an energetic John McCain take the battle to Obama! Image and video hosting by TinyPic

But let's not get our hopes up...

Comments?

McCain should lay off "social issues" like gay "marriage", for 3 reasons:

First, it would be transparently phony. He doesn't care about that stuff, and everybody knows it.

Second, it will drive squishy suburban voters with doubts about Obama away.

Third, and most importantly, anybody who cares in the slightest about those issues is already voting for him. It adds nothing, and subtracts a lot.

As I said, it’s a huge issue for me and others here. But just because WE feel strongly about it doesn’t mean it’s one of the top issues. Polls are in themselves not all that menaingful, but a number of polls can show prevailing attitudes, and I haven’t seen ANY poll of a wide number of Americans showing this as one of the big issues. We have to separate our personal experiences from the wider national view if we want to get a perspective on what’s going to win the election.

“I think the single thing McCain could do which would get him more votes is to have a strongly Conservative running mate.” I would insert “electable” after the word Conservative.

Ah, if only Bush would have thought of that.

LOL. One of the nuttiest ideas I have ever heard. There are 12 to 20 million illegals in this country. Allowing 200,000 to stay serves no purpose whatsoever except to infuriate the rest of the illegals and their supporters. And exactly what are the logistics involved in the application process? How do you figure out who the first 200,000 are?

They are all law breakers and should be treated the same, i.e., they must go back to their home countries willingly or be deported. Attrition thru enforcement works. McCain would be better served to renounce any amnesty or legalization of the status of the those here illegally.

McCain should also change his policy on cap and trade legislation that will wreck our economy.
