Check, Please (Obama Plans Reparations for Slavery)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 30 July 2008 | JAMES TARANTO

Posted on 07/31/2008 4:24:29 AM PDT by shrinkermd

One of the most appealing features of the Barack Obama candidacy is the idea that Obama is "postracial"--that he is a candidate who is black and does not practice the adversarial politics of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton...

But a story in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin raises serious questions about Obama's postracialism. The paper describes an Obama appearance at Unity '08, "a convention of four minority journalism In this view, the following deeds are insufficient to balance the ledger between America and the descendants of slaves: the Civil War, the ratification of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, Brown v. Board of Education, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the continuing practice of racial preferences. associations":

"I personally would want to see our tragic history, or the tragic elements of our history, acknowledged," the Democratic presidential hopeful said.

"I consistently believe that when it comes to whether it's Native Americans or African-American issues or reparations, the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds."

Exactly what Obama is advocating here cannot be determined, but it seems to be something of an endorsement of the idea of "reparations for slavery," which is usually taken to mean cash payments.

This is an explosive charge not noted by many. Direct questions, at the very least, seem necessary; however, the MSM has yet to respond.

A 527 add could be the end of Obama's campaign.

Obama, you can go to hell. My family immigrated to America in 1854. They were of German origin and settled in Chicago. They had nothing to do with slavery. I owe you and your Black community nothing. Nothing!

If this gets picked up by the MSM, he’ll start backpedalling. Sending out 15 gazillion statements to clarify his clarifications, just like he’s done in the past w/ Wright, Jerusalem, etc. etc. etc.

This “apology” from the ratHOUSE shows how worried the are now even over the Black vote. This reparations crap is just what we need to wrap things up by 9:30PM EST on Election Night.

The House did pass a resolution apologizing for slavery. To a liberal, that is a "deed." All about feelings and little to nothing about results.

Well now ... this should end a lot of the "white guilt" the MSM has been alluding to.

It's no wonder the leftists are against the right to keep & bear arms, because they would definitely hurt themselves.

It's too bad ignorance isn't painful.

Guilt. Guilt for crimes you as an individual did not commit. Guilt that can never be repaid in full. Guilt to be placed on your children and their children not yet born. That is the hold marxists have when they impose the supremacy of the group over the individual.

I agree with him. We should give a check to every former slave and we should tax all former Confederate soldiers for it.

The writer can't determine what Obama is calling for? He's either scared to say what Obama is calling for or is a fool.

It’s easier to pick our pockets via taxes then to rob and mug good citizens. This Obama is nothing more than a clone of Malcolm X. He is a modern day Black Panther.

I support reparations for slavery.

Just as soon as the NBA is 88% white players.

On a local conservative talk show here in Memphis yesterday morning an african american citizen said 3 million per black should do for reparations.

If your candidate said this, would you tell the country?

We paid your reparations in blood when we took arms up against our own people to set you free. We owe you nothing.

Steve Cohens apology probably has something to do with him being up for reelection against a black woman (Nikki Tinker) in an almost all black district here in Memphis.
