GATES MILLS, Ohio -- President George W. Bush made a pit stop on his way back to the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport Tuesday evening.

After leaving a fundraiser in Gates Mills, his motorcade passed a home with a sign asking the president to stop by -- so he did.

Bush got out of the car and spent a few minutes with Ruth Harris, who was celebrating her 91st birthday with her family.

Bush sat in a chair next to Harris and said "91 years old -- how special."

When neighbors noticed what was happening, they soon surrounded the president for a moment with him, too.

The photos are clearly amateur, rather than media pro. In fact, they resemble stills taken from either a cell phone or minicam.

"You know, if I were a single man, I might ask that mummy out. That's a good-looking mummy" —Bill Clinton, looking at "Juanita," a newly discovered Incan mummy on display at the National Geographic museum.

19 or 91, dead or alive ........ BJ Clinton doesn't seem to be too particular.

Yeah, when Clinton’s motorcade came through the south of the cities in Minnesota, he stopped for a throng of people at the side of the road and he greeted people, but it always felt like grandstanding.

Bush just comes across as good folk and the man proves it again.

He had just given an energy speech at an electric plant in Euclid, Ohio, so the media were "in the area" - that is the few that were actually covering the real POTUS instead of the pretend one.

"but no doubt he's a class act."

Absolutely. The man has class, character and a good heart. I think he would have stopped whether cameras were there or not.

I'm surprised this made any kind of news.

Newsnet5 is just our little local tv news channel.

I’m not so sure slick willie wouldn’t have done it even with the woman being 91-”man honey, you don’t look a day over 75, are you interested in an internship”

Not an expert in the field, but I would think that secret service nightmares are not the thing of un-announced stops like this, where there could be little chance of any pre-meditated attempt to harm the president.

It seems the nightmares would be the pre-announced events where some individual of ill-intent has had time to plan an attack.

I recall my military security training that taught me not to be predictable in my movements. Make random movements on my post. Don't allow a potential enemy or intruder to log a pattern which he may use to develop a plan of attack.

It seems like a random stop like this could actually enhance security, in that a potential down-the-road pre-planned attempt would be foiled.

Anyway, the stop at the woman's 91st birthday celebration is quite Reaganesque, isn't it? I love this kind of thing in a president, eveen though I am not a big Bush fan. I do think it is something real in him. If someone like Obamanation were to do likewise, I would take it as phony.

That’s not true. Oh sure, the secret service will protest, but they still know who the boss is!

I disagree. It may have taken a few moments for secret service to check things out before he exited his vehicle but he is the President and everyone around him follows orders.
