Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction, It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again. Knowing this, it is hard to explain those who even today would question the people's capacity for self-rule. Will they answer this: if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? Using the temporary authority granted by the people, an increasing number lately have sought to control the means of production, as if this could be done without eventually controlling those who produce. Always this is explained as necessary to the people's welfare. But, "The deterioration of every government begins with the decay of the principle upon which it was founded" [Montesquieu]. This is as true today as it was when it was written in 1748.

I suspect at least some wells are ready or near ready for production . . . if not the Christmas tree installations would not take that much time.
Getting the oil South could be a challenge, however.
But solvable.

It is my understanding that the Democrats have total control of when the cameras are turned on and off. Does that control over C-SPAN coverage reside with the majority party?

Have canceled my trip to pottery . . . will try and catch up next week. This is important. This is darn close to a SOTU or debate thread...without being a SOTU or debate. Almost 900 posts for something that is not "officially" happening!

No, Nancy is trying to survive until the election and she hopes the gas prices will continue to drop and the American people will forget why they’re pissed off at the Democrats.

The sad folks over at DU will be disappointed -No they won't. I'll bet they're popping the corn and breaking open the brews to see the Republicans melt down over the normal close of the legislative session. We're the ones whipping up the storm. I'm sure it is a huge laugh to DU that this is going on. The debate could have just as easily been over some miniscule subject like parking privileges at US airports for House members when the session closed for normal vacation. Because it was the drilling issue, it made the blogs go into global meltdown .... over nothing!
