RICHMOND, Va. - U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia has been asked for "personal documents" by John McCain's campaign, a Republican knowledgeable with the discussions said Saturday.
Cantor, 45, the chief deputy minority whip in the House, has been mentioned among several Republicans as a possible running mate for McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
The Republican familiar with the conversations between Cantor and the McCain campaign said Cantor has been asked to turn over documents, but did not know specifically what records were sought.

uh oh you just dared the Mitt haters to challenge that hes conservative.
I just look at his family he has a normal American family and is a proven capitalist and man of values. I believe he is conservative and put on different stripes to succeed in Massachusetts.
Anyone but the Huckster!
He's annoying. I saw the linked clip up thread of him complaining about seniors having to choose between medicine or gasoline and wanted to puke.
"Can you picture Obama saying this?"
--------------------------------------------------------------
That was one my first thoughts. He's got more experience than Obama LoL!
LOL!!!
Tom Ridge typically has an odd look on his face that makes him appear very weak and confused to me. I realize this is not terribly substantive, but it never fails to make a bad impression whenever I see him on television. I wonder if others see this as it appears to me? If so he would be a bad choice no matter what.
Yes. LOL
“Does anyone know much about this gentleman?”
Conservative, Southern, Jewish.
(Perfect, according to Mrs. MWT.)
How many years was Abraham Lincoln a Senator and Gov.
Ridge has a hearing problem that causes that. I will also sometimes affect his voice modulation.
Cantor is handsome!
He's not being hired as a politician, he's being hired to take over for McCain if needed. He's annoying. I saw the linked clip up thread of him complaining about seniors having to choose between medicine or gasoline and wanted to puke.
Do you have something against his 97% conservative voting record or are you just going to complain who-the-heck-knows-what?
Clear evidence here that some were convinced he isn't a Reagan-bashing, illegal-employing, gun rights stifler, pro choice liberal RINO.
Eric Cantor is a fourth-term congressman representing the Seventh District of Virginia. He recently won re-election to Congress in November 2006.
In December 2002 Eric was selected to serve as Chief Deputy Majority Whip, the highest appointed position in the House Representatives.
As Chief Deputy Whip, Eric has a seat at the House Republican Leadership table.
Eric holds a seat on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which has direct jurisdiction over taxes, trade, Social Security, Medicare, prescription drugs for seniors, health care and welfare reform.
He also serves as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare.
The task force is composed of Members of Congress who study the threat of international terrorism on the United States and develop policy proposals and legislative recommendations regarding the fight against terrorism.
Eric Cantor is a lifelong resident of the Richmond area. He got his start in politics as a student at George Washington University by interning for Congressman Tom Bliley in Blileys Washington office and serving as a driver on Blileys first re-election campaign.
Eric received his law degree from The College of William and Mary and his Masters degree from Columbia University in New York.
While in New York, Eric met his wife Diana and brought her back to Virginia where they are currently raising three children, Evan, Jenna and Michael, who attend Henrico County Public Schools.
Lots and lots of conservative activist have been quietly pushing for Cantor.
He’s much more conservative than McCain, fiscal and social conservative.
He also happens to be Jewish, which is a great thing, given how squishy Jewish support is for Obama. We’d bring in fence-setting Jewish voters and Evangelicals who would probably otherwise stay home.
Per Hugh Hewitt in a blog in September 2007 trying to promote Cantor to run for Senate, his seat is very safe.
I like Mike Pence, too, except for one thing. Back when the Shamnesty attempt was just starting up, he was on KSFO radio and was pushing that strawman crap about not tearing families apart by sending illegals home if they had American born kids. If we tore those kids away from their parents upon their return to their home countries, I'd take that argument seriously...
Anyway, I don't know what Pence's stand on the Shamnesty was as it progressed, but that reduced my trust level for him even though I have otherwise been very favorably impressed. I like Cox too.
I said this before, he looks like one of the Ghost Busters. ...which could come in handy if a giant marshmellow man ever threatens our cities.
