Why the Left is Unpatriotic and Why the Right Should Say So

Most conservative political commentators tiptoe around the unpatriotic positions maintained by many liberals in America. We hear prominent conservatives say things like this, "I am not challenging Mr. Liberal's patriotism. I am challenging his point of view."

The fact is that much of the new left is unpatriotic. And that is okay. The Founding Fathers knew that not all Americans would be patriots; in fact, they counted on it. In this article I will show why the culture of the left is not patriotic. My basic contention is that patriotism is now the responsibility of the right -- abandoned by the left. I will use stories and photographs from this year's Oregon Country Fair to help make the point.

The Oregon Country Fair is held every July on a large private plot of land about fifteen miles west of Eugene, Oregon. Nearly 50,000 people attend the three-day event. The fair is a celebration of environmentalism and left-wing politics.

When I drove onto the fairgrounds, I noticed that the six or seven parking lots were jammed with thousands of good old American gas guzzling SUVs. My wife and I tried to find a hybrid vehicle in our parking lot. We walked passed hundreds of cars and spotted only two hybrids. Nevertheless, the very first exhibit at the fair was this:

The Left IS unpatriotic! But we worry too much about being liked by them than to gin up the courage to tell the truth about our opponents.

American patriotism is antithetical to the basic foundation of liberalism. The fundamental tenant of liberalism is “You are your own god...do and believe what makes you feel good.”

American patriotism means accepting the principle that your rights and blessings come from God. We risk our lives and treasure to protect the God-given liberties of our fellow American, and other oppressed people. We do this not because we believe they “should be” free, but because our

God tells us that all men are “created equal,” meaning that the freedom of man is a cause worth risking our lives for.

Freedom is a God-given right, which is why conservatives cherish the liberty of others, even when said conservative may disagree with the way that liberty is being exercised.

Liberals think it's only the freedoms they want to enjoy that are worth fighting for, and that if they way you exercise your freedom is something they disagree with your freedom should be taken by the power of government.

You cannot be your own God and still be a patriot, which is why you cannot be a modern-day American liberal and still be an American patriot.

What confuses me the most about liberalism and the democrats who have embraced and promote liberalism is that they would not want to live in the world they are trying to bring about. There are many examples of socialist and communist societies to choose from, yet here they stay and complain about what a horrible place America is. Liberalism is indeed a mental disease.

Leftists - especially wealthy ones - see themselves as current members of the ruling class. They imagine that they would be given a special status in the new communist utopia and they would keep their mansions and private jets. They imagine themselves as the 5% who would live in luxury while everyone else lives in barracks or mud huts.

They look forward to the day when they won't have to rub elbows with commoners at airports and malls. It is not enough that they have their private jets. It annoys them that a commoner can buy a ticket and fly anywhere in the world. How can you feel special flying your private jet to Hawaii if some plumber can buy a ticket and fly to Hawaii - it just isn't fair. It annoys them that even "poor" people have luxuries like telephones and airconditioners. They enjoy extravagant wealth but they resent it that poorer people enjoy even modest comforts. That is why the wealthy leftists favor communism/environmentalism.
