It seems that the Chinese and the Russians have an easier time dealing with these sort of elements.

I am having trouble understanding how this would affect the Olympics. Of course, with the Chinese crackdown on internet, hardly anyone will hear about it, unless the Chicoms parade the dead bodies on National Television.

I will be very surprised if something happens in Bejing, as they threw out nearly every Westerner over the summer by not renewing their visas. I am sure the others are heavily screened.

China hasn't had any trouble dealing with rebellions lately that I know of.

Many Olympic venues are outside Beijing, even though far away from Xinjiang. Besides, it is possible to mount terrorist attacks near Beijing not inside Beijing. There may be few foreigners waving “Free Tibet” signs, but these are domestic terrorism. They are already in China.
