Palestinians donate $29,500 to Obama
World Net Daily ^ | August 04, 2008 | Aaron Klein

Posted on 08/04/2008 10:42:46 AM PDT by Ben Mugged

Palestinian brothers inside the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip are listed in government election filings as having donated $29,521.54 to Sen. Barack Obama's campaign.

The donations would violate election laws, including prohibitions on receiving donations from foreigners and guidelines against accepting more than $2,300 from one individual during a single election, Bob Biersack, a spokesman for the Federal Election Commission, told WND in response to a query.

The contributions also raise numerous questions about the Obama campaign's lax online donation form, which apparently allows for the possibility of foreign contributions.

Last week, the Atlas Shrugs blog outlined a series of donations in 2007 made to Obama's campaign from two individuals, Monir Edwan and Hosam Edwan, totaling $29,521.54.

In an online form on Obama's campaign site, the Edwans listed their street as "Tal Esaltan," which they wrote was located in "Rafah, GA."

Rafah is not a city in Georgia. The Atlas blog immediately raised concerns that the money may have been donated from the Gaza Strip town of Rafah.

The Edwans' donations are listed in both FEC filings and other election filing sites, such as CampaignMoney and donordata.org.

I've been looking all over the data file that is available on the FEC website. The strangest thing that I see is that contributions are routinely made to Obama in odd dollar & cent amounts. There are NO contributions in the McCain file that are odd dollar & cent amounts. NONE.

This system is rotten.

Or... the programmer who wrote the “Gen Phony Donations” software bots thought it would be suspicious if the amounts were always whole numbers.

That was Pamela Geller's thought too. To me, it looks like the campaign is trying to do different things with it. Maybe they were selling tee shirts???

One thing I see over & over is a donor makes a contribution or multiple contributions in regular denominations i.e., 50.00, 100.00, 250.00, 500.00 then there is an odd donation stuck in say like $133.18. Now that is just strange to me. Thousands of them.

McCain's campaign data file has all, ALL, even dollar & cents amounts.

Ideas?

If you'd like to be on this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.

High volume. Articles on Israel can also be found by clicking on the Topic or Keyword Israel, WOT

If the Edwans had the sense to make multiple contribuitions under the $200 reporting limit, their donations would be listed no where. Just a few extra mouse clicks.

This is Money laundering at its finest!

I think that Money laundering is handled by the Secret Service.

You want to bet this can be traced as it was either by Credit Card, Check or possibly Cash. If the donation was by cash that is even better as it proves money laundering. The west bank and gaza are known for money laundering.

I bet Obama loaded up his suitcases while in the middle east. Yes! I want a fill up of Soft money in small amounts of $199.00 or less. Over 200.00 they have to file this troublesome reports like the one above and that creates too many eyes seeing them..

Actually its a larger amount of money as its $31,318.00 and taken over a very short period of time.

So you know that who ever is turning in the reports on the Barack Obama campaign knows that its a serious issue as most of the money is in large contributions but all odd amounts. It looks to me like its money laundering by the Obama campaign.

If its money Laundering then this is a crime that the Secret Service gets involved with and I wonder if anybody has tipped them off as its evident that the FEC is run by a bunch of weenies who can tell the difference between a non-existent town in Georiga or the Gaza Strip. Do a google browser search of : Rafah,Ga and you get the Gaza strip.

Also the zip code used as just 952 happens to be the calling code for the West Bank, and Israel.

The FEC web site lists the following on Foreign contributions.

www.fec.gov/pages/brochures/foreign.shtml

Soliciting, Accepting, or Receiving Contributions and Donations from Foreign Nationals As noted earlier, the Act prohibits knowingly soliciting, accepting or receiving contributions or donations from foreign nationals. In this context, “knowingly” means that a person:

Has actual knowledge that the funds solicited, accepted, or received are from a foreign national;

Is aware of facts that would lead a reasonable person to believe that the funds solicited, accepted, or received are likely to be from a foreign national;

Is aware of facts that would lead a reasonable person to inquire whether the source of the funds solicited, accepted or received is a foreign national.

11 CFR 110.20(a)(4)(i), (ii) and (iii). Pertinent facts that may lead to inquiry by the recipient include, but are not limited to the following: A donor or contributor uses a foreign passport, provides a foreign address,

makes a contribution from a foreign bank, or resides abroad. Obtaining a copy of a current and valid U.S. passport would satisfy the duty to inquire whether the funds solicited, accepted, or received are from a foreign national. 11 CFR 110.20(a)(7).

Excellent job by Asron Klein interviewing the Edwan brothers, and getting them to admit what we suspected about this thing since the story first hit the 'Net. This shows further on which side Obama's bread is buttered in the Israel-Pali conflict.

The Obama campaign, as 'Rat campaigns (think Clinton and China) frequently do, has evinced no intention of playing by the most basic campaign finance rules.

I used to believe WND was a legitimate news source. (For the record, I also once believed in Santa Claus.) It is a shame that even if they do publish something that is true I will not be inclined to believe it due to the large quantities of ridiculous, made-up nonsense they produce. The site that cried wolf, so to speak.

I can only find three in a Google news search, at Wizbang, MarketWatch and Israel Insider. All three reference the WND article.

Same story as the one at MarketWatch, from PRNewswire-USNewswire. WND is named as the source. I’m not saying the story isn’t true, but I’d be a lot more confident if it were verified by a reliable source. In this case, even MSNBC would be more reliable.
