G.O.P. Drops in Voting Rolls in Many States (Buh Bye, GOP)
The New York Times ^ | August 5, 2008 | JENNIFER STEINHAUER

Posted on 08/05/2008 7:55:16 AM PDT by TADSLOS

Well before Senators Barack Obama and John McCain rose to the top of their parties, a partisan shift was under way at the local and state level. For more than three years starting in 2005, there has been a reduction in the number of voters who register with the Republican Party and a rise among voters who affiliate with Democrats and, almost as often, with no party at all.

Jim Webb, arms crossed, at a rally in 2006, won his Senate race in Virginia with strong support from inner suburbs.

While the implications of the changing landscape for Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain are far from clear, voting experts say the registration numbers may signal the beginning of a move away from Republicans that could affect local, state and national politics over several election cycles. Already, there has been a sharp reversal for Republicans in many statehouses and governors’ mansions.

In several states, including the traditional battlegrounds of Nevada and Iowa, Democrats have surprised their own party officials with significant gains in registration. In both of those states, there are now more registered Democrats than Republicans, a flip from 2004. No states have switched to the Republicans over the same period, according to data from 26 of the 29 states in which voters register by party. (Three of the states did not have complete data.)

Why be a fence sitting liberal republican when you can cross the aisle and party with the rats? Hey, it works for McCain.

I don’t care what voter rolls say, I only care what the results are on election day.

Operation Chaos.

Millions of dittoheads voted for Hillary in the Democrat primaries to stir the pot.

And they had to declare themselves Demagogues to do it.

But they won't be voting Demagogue in November.

Sometimes an article in the NYT is so full of BS it must be branded as little different from Democrat propaganda.

This is such a time ~ the first example the NYT writer used to 'splain Republican registration losses was Virginia.

I live in Virginia. There is no party registration at all in Virginia. No one knows how registration varies by party affiliation here.

As far as Webb winning, he got a slightly higher than normal vote total in areas better known for a history of having lots of KKK activism.

Webb's their boy.

You give the New York Times way to much credibility. They print it so it must be true.

too bad obama is going to lose because of the democrats that won’t vote for him, regardless of how hard the NY times tries to pump up obama and surpress republican turnout.

Can we ban NYT articles? They are full of lies, and a massive lack of facts and simply puts for political propaganda.

Nah, it just sounds like you are so jubilant that, according to this article, that Democrats are winning.

Fascinating.

Registrations don’t really mean much. You can register all the people you want, it only matters if they vote. And young people are notorious for registering and not voting.

More NYT agitprop to suppress Republican turnout.

Their primary source is the Brookings Institution. Brookings is a liberal Democrat think tank, whose President since 2002 has been Strobe Talbott, who served as President Clinton's Deputy Secretary of State. The Board of Trustees features Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of John Kerry; Zoe Baird, failed Clinton appointee for Attorney General; and Lawrence Summers, former Harvard President and U.S. Treasury Secretary.

The number of self-identified Republicans has definitely declined over the past several years. Too many different sources have confirmed it for it not to be true.

My thought is most of them left because of opposition to the war in Iraq. Interestingly enough, since the surge, you are actually starting to see some sources report a move back to the GOP. Our numbers are still down significantly from 2004, but hopefully we have weathered the worst of the storm.

If we ever get our acts together and fight for conservative causes again, we can turn this right back around. Maybe the "drilling for oil" campaign is a start?

BS, I call BS. It has been shown in recent days that the democrat rolls are dropping, so I guess times had to get even and come out with their own version of things. I don't care who votes for McCain, he is gaining, and by far more than the polls show I'll wager, and he will win. What party votes for him matters not.

Besides that many republicans switched parties to vote in Dem primaries this year, that doesn't mean they will vote dem in the General election. I would bet, if they have any proof at all that people have switched they are talking about the primary voters. Anything to discourage republicans. By, by, GOP? Maybe, but you can bet your butt that another CONSERVATIVE party will spring up to take its place if it does collapse.

The NYT is regurgitating what is already known. Go ahead, stay in the warm and cozy womb of denial.

I don’t think that is the reason.

The reason is Jorge El Segundo - the phoney globalist internationalist “compassionate” conservative who is destroying America, the Republican Party and the conservative movement all at once.

Conservatives are sick and tired of a party represented by a President who continues to pander to the World Court, Mexico and Red China. A guy who won’t even stand up for English as the official langauge.

The only reason McCain is doing so well is Obama.
