Mexican soldiers allegedly held Arizona BP agent captive (act of war?)

The U.S. Border Patrol agent's union reported that Mexican soldiers crossed into U.S. territory and held an agent captive at gunpoint during a Sunday night incident.

The National Boder Patrol Council Local 2544 in Tuscon reported on its website that reported that the incident occured near Ajo, Arizona.

The union website reported that the soldiers returned to Mexico without further incident after reinforcements arrived to confront them.

It's not clear why Mexican soldiers were on U.S. territory but union officials said in their website that Mexican soldiers have been known to protect Mexican drug gangs and migrant smugglers.

"Unfortunately, this sort of behavior by Mexican military personnel has been going on for years," Union Local 2544 of the National Border Patrol Council said on its Web page. "They are never held accountable, and the United States government will undoubtedly brush this off as another case of, 'Oh well, they didn't know they were in the United States.' "

The union website said Tuscon Sector agents were grateful that the incident ended without gunfire but reserving further comment on the issue until agency leaders handle the situation.

The real answer here....is that a fence really existed...you couldn’t accidentally or purposely cross the border. Yet, you won’t see a single senator push for a full-up fence all the way across.

I hope the Border Agent doesn’t get charged somehow with violating the Mexican soldier's rights. If Johnny Sutton or Jorge Bush get near this; the agent could be a cell mate of Ramos or Compean.

Our Border Patrol is well trained and armed, they need to resist armed incursions, hell, they are the BORDER PATROL are they not, under HOMELAND SECURITY? It's up to them to start the incident then something will have to happen. That, or just give up and go home.

I'm pretty disgusted with Federal agencies which are all militarized beyond your wildest imagination (This is not something that I just think, I know). Come on boys, step up to the plate! You see, that's what happens when everyone is raised to be vicitims. Damn, take charge!! Let's do something shall we?

My current map of Arizona indicates that Ajo is still 40 miles from Mexico.

Let's not blow this out of proportion. It looks like the soldiers may have been chasing a drug suspect and inadvertently crossed over the border. We weren't told if the BP agent was in uniform, but drug/alien smugglers have been know to dress in uniforms. It appears once these soldiers understood the guy was a BP agent and that they were in the US, they beat a path back with their tail between their legs.

There's a lot to be concerned about down on the border, but sensationalizing accidents/mistakes doesn't help the overall cause. I'm not excusing the Mexican soldiers, this was a big goof, but I don't see anything nefarious here.

Of course those looking for/wanting conspiracy will make this out to be another Roswell.

Since when did you start believing every word coming out of the mouths of Union officials? Even if what he says is true, it doesn’t prove that this was the case in this incident. Each one must be judged separately and on it’s own merits. To do otherwise makes you nothing but a reactionary fool who can’t be trusted.

Running for the torches and pitchforks at every possible opportunity, before finding out all the facts, can not only make you look foolish but lead to “The boy who cried wolf” syndrome. Eventually no one will take you seriously and you will find little support when the really important events/issues arise.

One has to pick and choose their battles wisely or you run off engaging in every concievable cause only to find your resources exhausted when you need them most.
