Rich Lowry: Watch the Ego, O
Real Clear Politics ^ | August 08, 2008 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 08/09/2008 4:21:23 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It's almost as if they take pride in being ignorant," Barack Obama mused the other day, blasting Republicans for ridiculing his exhortation to the nation to make sure its tires are properly inflated.

Ah, behold the open-mindedness and cross-partisan understanding. Remember two years ago, when Obama was only a media darling and not yet The Anointed One?

Back then, his appeal was the extraordinary sensitivity he had for the views of others. His best-selling campaign book, "The Audacity of Hope," was carefully unaudacious in its on-the-one-hand, on-the-other-hand weighing of the issues of the day, giving the impression that nothing pained him so much as not being able to agree with the other side, though he thoroughly understood and respected its arguments.

That iteration of Obama was tossed under the bus long ago (no word on whether the tires were adequately inflated). It's been replaced by an Obama who - between pauses gazing regally into the middle-distance during his orations - betrays a dismissive contempt for all differences of opinion.

"Nobody really thinks that Bush or McCain have a real answer for the challenges we face," he said, responding to a John McCain attack ad.

Nobody does? Are all those people who vote Republican simply delusional? Or are they pretending to believe things that they really don't to conceal unseemly motivations - power-hunger, bitterness, racism?

The most elemental act of political civility is to concede the good motives of your opposition. Obama lately can't even muster that.

I think his massive ego is his Achille's heel.

His racist and socialist makeup are his Achilles heel. His ego is just a manifestation of his character.

Why do Republican writers keep reminding Obama about his ego now? Just let it inflate even more, then when the time is right, poke it hard so it would explode.

I think the fact that he is so stupid that he cannot comprehend that his self-proclaimed “genius” is simply a display of his ignorance to people with an IQ above a tomato, is the operative theme here! osamabama is truly as dumb as a box of rocks... without handlers and a racist, b!tch wife that has pushed him and arranged everything for him since they met, he wouldn't even be employable... not even performing manual labor... he is too puny and a P***y to boot!

Why shouldn't they talk about his ego? What's going to happen, Obama's going to go "Gee, maybe I have an ego problem" and magically NOT have one anymore?

His efforts to hide his ego will only prove his phoniness.

We need everyone talking about his ego problem, as with Kerry, so the label sticks. Let people who aren't sure about him read these pieces and say, "Yeah, THAT'S what I don't like about him..."

But......he left that prayer at the wailing wall; Never in his wildest dreams imagining that someone would publish it. How many me's were in that again?

I was recently stuck on a plane for nearly 45 minutes behind some pompous @$$hole liberal who was "educating" some sweet young college age girl about how the world "really is". He went through all the talking points, bringing up the Nuremburg trials and the parallels to Bush / Cheney, talked about how just 40 square miles of solar collectors in the desert would supply the energy needs of the entire nation, and then decried the fact that "unfortunately, nobody thinks like me". I know, I know, it's hard to believe that someone so much a victim of group think could feel like they're so alone. That psychopathology alone is worth a lifetime of study.

I almost jumped up and shouted at him for a couple of these inane statements, but one of the ones I especially remember was that the reason that they're calling Obama an elitist is that everyone's jealous because he's pretty much smarter than everyone else in America. I had to contain myself from laughing out loud and starting a verbal fight with this fool.

Forget the tires.... ; )

Interesting note to a conversation I had yesterday. I got the impression the person I was speaking with was or is a liberal democrat. She bashed Bush, McCain, and said everyone is sooo tired of the Republicans; but on the flip side many are afraid of Obama. Her words “afraid of Obama.” She claimed to be afraid enough to sit out the election and is simply choosing to pray for our country.

We spoke a little while longer about McCain and compared his maverick persona with the same ole’ same ole’ persona of the Bush administration. She finally agreed he couldn't be both and while not agreeing to vote for McCain I think she walked away a little more willing to look at McCain and his VP pick.

She felt the election might come down to the VP’s and not the actual candidates.

"It's almost as if they take pride in being ignorant," Barack Obama mused the other day, blasting Republicans for ridiculing his exhortation to the nation to make sure its tires are properly inflated."

Whats "ignorant" is Obama suggesting that the majority of Americans are too stupid to keep their tires inflated to their cars recommended tire pressure, and are driving around on flat tires. He also adds insult to injury by suggesting the American public are stupid enough to believe him that just by merely getting all these stupid Americans driving on flat tires to inflate their tires will solve America's dependence on foreign oil.

"Ignorant" are those who believe that Obama, who has never served in the military, in the House, or as a governor; has never run a business, was only just elected to the Senate in 2004, and has only had one hard-fought political victory in his entire political career (against Hillary Clinton) is qualified to run the country.

As has been stated on FR over a year ago ... Obama-lama-ding-dong is a black "Chance ... the gardener" (from the movie "Being There" with Peter Sellers)

partial scene from the movie ...

President "Bobby": I admire your good, solid sense. That's precisely what we lack on Capitol Hill.

Ron Steigler: Mr. Gardner, uh, my editors and I have been wondering if you would consider writing a book for us, something about your um, political philosophy, what do you say?

Chance the Gardener: I can't write.

Ron Steigler: Heh, heh, of course not, who can nowadays? Listen, I have trouble writing a postcard to my children. Look uhh, we can give you a six figure advance, I'll provide you with the very best ghost-writer, proof-readers...

Chance the Gardener: I can't read.

Ron Steigler: Of course you can't! No one has the time! We, we glance at things, we watch television...

Chance the Gardener: I like to watch TV.

Ron Steigler: Oh, oh, oh sure you do. No one reads!

"They're making fun of a step that every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by 3 to 4 percent," Obama said of the tire gauges

Even if that were true (and it isn't), what Obama originally claimed was that tire inflation and tune-ups would save as much oil as the Republicans' plans for new drilling.

Not only is that claim provably false, but Obama himself is only claiming, at most, 800,000 barrels od savings, far short of what the new drilling proposed by the Republicans would bring in.

Obama is a compulsive liar.

While he's disappointing in a number of ways--as all presidents have been--Bush is more of a maverick than almost any other president in my lifetime, so I would never call him "same ol' same ol'." We're too stuck in our frustration over certain things he's done, we need to step back and look at the truly audacious (!) moves of his Administration at its best.

Having said that, I work with a number of pro-Obama people, and they have one thing in common--they cannot articulate ANYTHING about his policies, it's all "Change" and "Hope" and "Iraq" and that is IT.

He is the candidate for people who don't believe in God but believe by checking the pressure on their tires they are personally saving the world.

That and his abject stupidity on the issues.

The tire inflation thing is a perfect example. He pontificates on how if everyone just keeps their tires properly inflated it will save 3% of the barrels of oil we use. Did the anointed one take into consideration that probably 50% to 75% do this today.
The brain power is astounding to say the least.

There are two kinds of Democrats to Obama: Those already under the bus (hey Edwards!), and those about to be thrown under the bus.

I too work in a heavy liberal environment. So liberal I often keep my mouth shut when working. I almost bought a McCain bumper sticker, but then thought otherwise. Every once in while though I am starting to see cracks of doubt forming. Light hasn't quite made it through yet, but the doubts are forming.

I feel your pain! :P The comforting thing to me is that the two sane (well, sane-ish) moderate/democrats I work with are absolutely NOT voting for Obama. They aren't enthused about McCain, but I think that's just their not wanting to give me the satisfaction.

We sometimes forget that on the internet we see more of the really rabid supporters of each side. In the real world, people who aren't all that into politics are only now starting to pay attention--very slowly, nothing like in the fall. And Obama should be far ahead at this point, if only because of "soft" support based on the MSM buttkissing.

When they look at this guy in the fall, the "flip-flopper" ads will make themselves, and the silent majority (which everyone keeps forgetting about) is going to realize that this guy simply isn't qualified.

"talked about how just 40 square miles of solar collectors in the desert would supply the energy needs of the entire nation, and then decried the fact that "unfortunately, nobody thinks like me".

These liberal @sshats have taken a page from the "How to become a successful free energy machine con artist" manual. They have come to realize that there are an awful lot of suckers out there that believe this free energy garbage and by saying the right words, can get these suckers who wouldn't normally vote for them eating right out of their hands.

These people are especially believing of accusations that Republicans = big oil, big energy business tycoons who send around the MIB suppressing free energy technology that will somehow free them from the burdens of life as we know it.
