Ford Told FBI About Panel's Doubts on JFK Murder
Houston Chronicle ^ | Aug. 9, 2008 | MICHAEL J. SNIFFEN

WASHINGTON — Former President Ford secretly advised the FBI that two of his fellow members on the Warren Commission doubted the FBI's conclusion that John F. Kennedy was shot from the sixth floor of the Texas Book Depository in Dallas, according to newly released records from Ford's FBI files.

Ford, still a congressman at the time, also told a senior FBI official about internal panel disputes over hiring staff, Chief Justice Earl Warren's timetable for completing the final report on the assassination and what panel members said about the FBI.

In turn, Assistant FBI Director Cartha "Deke" DeLoach confidentially advised Ford of FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover's position on panel disputes; discussed where leaks were coming from; and, with Hoover's personal approval, loaned him a bureau briefcase with a lock so he could securely take the FBI report on the 1963 assassination with him on a ski trip.

The new details were included in 500 pages of the FBI's large file on Ford, released in part this past week in response to requests under the Freedom of Information Act that The Associated Press and others made on the day Ford died in December 2006. The FBI intends to release additional documents about Ford in several batches, all with parts censored for law enforcement and privacy reasons.

That Ford served as the FBI's eyes and ears inside the commission has been known for years. Long ago, the government released a 1963 FBI memo that said Ford, then a Republican congressman from Michigan, had volunteered to keep the FBI informed about the panel's private deliberations, but only if that relationship remained confidential. The bureau agreed.

It was also well-known Ford was an outspoken proponent of the bureau's conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald killed Kennedy acting alone.

Yeah, can't have people pointing out the truth.

I used to buy totally into the conspiracy. However, I came to the conclusion that everything that Oliver Stone and those like him claimed were lies almost to the letter.

For example, people claim that Oswald was a poor shot. I am in the military. I know how good a shot a marine sharpshooter is.

“In several videos, numerous witnesses look to the grassy knoll as the shots are fired, and I saw no one looking up to the sixth floor.”

Gunfire rarely is heard from the direction of the shot. Usually in such cluttered situtations it is heard 90 degrees from it true location. Military snipers use that knowledge to hide thier location.

I think it was the history channel that duplicated the exact conditions of that day and found the shot was most probable downt to the bullet landing in Gov Connally’s lap.

“You have to remember that at the moment of the headshot, the limo was accelerating at full throttle, so there was probably at least a 35mph headwind to blow the blood/brains to the rear.”

Where did you get that 35MPH figure? The Z’film shows 11MPH. Any movement by material was due to the really fast bullet hitting it.

Amen to that. Years ago, with some anticipation, I visited the 6th floor. Looking out that window, it was immediately apparent that even an average shot like me could have done it.

Bingo. With the limo headed directly away a low speed, all Oswald had to do was wait for the head to come into the sight picture.

I shoot paper plates at that distance with handguns. Any average shooter can hit a paper plate at 50 yards with a reasonably accurate handgun.

At that distance, I would expect to be able to hit a quarter with a scoped rifle.

Anybody who says a bolt action Mauser isn’t accurate is nuts. Didn’t the Germans use them for sniper rifles in WWII?

Gerald Ford ending as presidt was a huge fluke, and, I believe, could not have been the product of any forethought. As for Specter, he was a full Commission member (in charge of the “magic bullet” division), not one of the lower investigators I was refering to. If his reputation was large enough to be named alongside men like Warren, he probably could have won a Senate seat if Kennedy had never been shot.

Sorry about the triple-post.

By the way, it always shocks me how those who are suckered by the Zapruder film into avowing the really true truth was jammed into a coffin and buried by the Warren Report, simply imagine extra evidence to buttress their arguments. Kennedy’s head does not blow up in the back. It obviously blows up in the right front. Jackie does not climb out of her seat to grab brain matter (as if that would be anyone’s instinctual response, “My husband’s dead, oh, I should pick up his brains just in case he still needs them”). We can see the sparkling back of that limo, and nary a skull fragment is on it.

Tell me, what is more likely: Kennedy was shot from the rear, knocked forward for a frame, then snapped back due to a spasm; or Kennedy was shot from the front, and instead of exiting the natural line of trajectory, the bullet made the right front of his head explode, leaving the back of his skull neatly intact?

IF that is an actual evidence photo of the same bullet that was found on the stretcher, then, I withdraw my "pristine" adjective in #70. As for the rest, stet.

“The idea was to get the Bluest of Blue Ribbon panel members, and to get them to sign off on the party line.”

Did you ever stop to consider that the reason there was a “party line,” and ther reason the Commission followed it, is that EVERY SINGLE piece of credible evidence available pointed to Oswald? In my opinion, since the Commission made up its mind fairly early (as any reasonable investigator would), the fact that it tracked down as many leads as it could connecting Oswald to a conspiracy (so many leads, in fact, that it has provided buffs with something to write about for 45 years) is a paean to their integrity.

There is a reason that people you know are most likely to be convicted for your murder: cops go after the most obvious suspect.

What you say may be true, or may not be true, as I said it’s irrelevant to the point I was making. If you read the actual transcripts of LBJ putting together the Warren Commission, this was not the motivation and the mindset of LBJ. His concern was politics, public opinion, geopolitcs and a handful of other considerations. The Truth (with a capital “T”) was the farthest thing from his mind. That’s just a fact. Which, as I said previously, does not speak directly to the truth or falsity of the findings, it’s just an interesting observation.

That is CE339. What it doesn't show is the deformation on one side of the bullet itself. If you look at that photo, it is flat on the bottom. That 'flat' funs almost the entire length if the bullet.

James Lattimer was able to replicate the bullet in a test that included all the structures and from the approximate distance Oswald would have been firing from, angles, etc. He was able to reproduce a bullet with very similar characteristics to CE339.

Yeah, I was wrong about the 35 mph. I thought the driver
had accelerated after the first shot, but it wasn’t until after the headshot that he floored it.

Nevertheless I think my point stands, even with an 11 mph headwind the pink cloud will blow rearward.

The JFK assassination is the reason I started to study firearms, ballistics and capabilities. I have learned a lot since then. Both theoretical and practical.

Oswald did it alone, with a fairly well made rifle from a distance a novice could hit from.
