Obama's Republicans (Anti-Israel - pro-Arafat RINO's)

The Obama campaign's conference call yesterday on Republicans who back the presidential bid of the Democrat from Illinois showcased quite a crew. There was Rita Hauser, the PLO apologist whose law firm, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, racked up millions of dollars in legal fees over the years as a registered foreign agent of Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority. Ms. Hauser met with Mr. Arafat as early as 1988, when America still considered him a terrorist and refused even to allow him access to the United Nations headquarters in New York. Though the meeting may have had the tacit approval of the State Department, Israel publicly objected at the time, though it too chose eventually to treat with Arafat.

Ms. Hauser helped fund the Edward Said chair at Columbia for Mr. Obama's pal Rashid Khalidi. "I made a contribution," Ms. Hauser told us back in 2003, describing the chair's namesake, Professor Edward Said, as "a friend of mine. I admire him." Ms. Hauser said she was happy with Mr. Khalidi's selection as a teacher there. "I like him very much. He's a splendid guy, a Palestinian intellectual, a first-class choice, and I think everybody's pleased," she said of the professor whose errors The Sun exposed in its August 5, 2004, editorial, What the UAE Bought."

Mr. Obama also is boasting of Lincoln Chafee, who, as a senator representing Rhode Island, was responsible for blocking Secretary Bolton from being confirmed as the American ambassador at the United Nations on the grounds that the Bush administration had been too pro-Israel. He was one of two Republicans to vote against repeal of the estate tax, even though he gained his Senate seat in 1999 by being appointed to fill the remainder of his father's term. He voted against confirming Justice Alito.

I had always thought Leach was a DemocRAT. I knew that Chafee was a liberal Democrat and that Hauser was so “prominent” that I’ve never heard of her. These three pixies are not “prominet Republicans.” They are Obammie’s Three White Stooges. Calling yourself a Republican does not make you one.

Let’s see.....

Obama has “Republicans” Chaffee, Hauser and Leach.

McCain has the 2000 Democrat VP Candidate.

Tigerhawk has spoken to Leach recently and posted his explanation here.

Jim Leach, a Ford Republican who has not really changed his views on the big issues, is now quite comfortable endorsing a Democratic nominee who is himself probably closer to the center than the leaders of that earlier era, including George McGovern, Ted Kennedy, Eugene McCarthy, Edmund Muskie, Mo Udall, and even the 1976 version of Jimmy Carter.

He's jokin', right?

I don't think he is. I think he was trying to describe Leach's view of the party not his own. At least one commenter has asked for clarification on that last paragraph. The quote I thought telling was this one:

We mostly talked about old times and that original election campaign, but it became quite clear that we disagreed quite strongly on foreign policy. He said then -- in April 2007 -- that he thought Barack Obama had the potential to transform America's reputation in the world.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Chuck Hagel - fortunately retiring from the Senate - to join this sad lot.

Today on FOX, BTW, Bill Kristol hinted that Colin Powell was about to endorse "Osama" Obama and speak on his behalf at the 'Rat Convention. Powell, to his credit, immediately squelched the rumor - at least the part about his speaking at the convention. (Wonder what Kristol's agenda was in bringing it up.)

I saw Leach on the tube yesterday after making his announcement of support for "Osama" Obama. I knew he was a RINO, but I'm a bit surprised that he would cross party lines here, especially going against a "maverick" GOP candidate like McCain and going for an ultraleft 'Rat like "Osama" Obama. Does he have something personal against McCain?

Well, who cares. Jim Leach is nobody, anyway. If these are the three most prominent Republicans crossing party lines this year, the GOP is not in such bad shape after all.
