Hillary's Campaign Against Obama Continues .... (What's that smell ?)
Newsmax ^ | Thursday, August 14, 2008 | Dick Morris & Eileen McGann

"Every speech should contain a line [saying that] you were born in the middle of America to a middle class family in the middle of the last century."

On May 10, 2007, Time magazine reported that Hillary's stump speech included the lines: "I was born into a middle class family in the middle of the country in the middle of the last century."

After Penn's memos were released to the media this week, Hillary's people spread the word that she did not take Penn's advice. But it is evident that she did.

The strategy Penn recommended was ridiculous. He somehow thought that by stressing Hillary's normalcy, Obama's unusual name, race, origin, parents, and skin color would redound to his detriment. In fact, the exact opposite proved to be the case. It has been his very novelty that has underscored his appeal. Penn missed the point.

But the larger point in his memos is that Hillary sought, from the beginning of the 2008 campaign, to use race as an issue against Obama. Her early willingness to wrap herself in the flag and marginalize Obama as an outsider bespeaks her efforts to inject race into the campaign. As soon as Obama emerged as her chief opponent, Hillary and Bill Clinton tried to make the election about race and to contrast her American roots with Obama's otherness.

It would be a mistake to think that Hillary's campaign against Obama is over. She and Bill both realize that if McCain wins, she would be the likely Democratic nominee against him in 2012.

At the age of 76, McCain might make easy pickings. Hillary's argument to win the nomination would be simple: I told you so.

Morris is making a case for Hillary waiting for next time around, but keeping up her campaign against Obama, on the assumption that people will remember it four years hence when she runs again?
A pretty safe surmise.
My feeling for at least six months has been that she will one way or another, capture the Dem nomination at the Convention, and if she doesn’t , it won’t be for lack of trying. It is going to be, uhhhhh, very “awkward” to say the least.

The democrats are not that stupid to give her the nomination at this stage and risk a fatal split in their party that will cost them the White House not only in 2008 but for the next three elections at least.

CHORUS-
Ooh, ooh that smell
Can’t you smell that smell?
Ooh, ooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you.

I agree that we’ll need lots of popcorn, for the great entertainment. In 1980, Sen. Kennedy challenged President Carter, and Reagan won about 40 states. In 1968, the Democrats argued, during their convention, causing Wallace to run as an independent, winning 46 electoral votes. That helped Nixon win.

That’s not the way I see it.
The nomination is not really “the Democrats” (’s) to give, , and so it’s not theirs to take away, and the ongoing machinations of the resurrected Clinton Machine prove that. I think they see that the Party Elders, or “deciders” or whomever, made their choice, and I think all believe it could very well have been the wrong one. Sometime before Denver two things could be established unmistakably: ONE: that Obama would have almost NO chance to beat McCain, and TWO: that Hillary and her hardcore supporters could be very insistent about airing their grievances and presenting HER as the true heiress to a “grass-roots” wildfire of support. In other words, they will steal that fire and thunder and all the associations that go with it , away from Obama, who looked like he OWNED it throughout most of the primaries that upended the Hillary Express. This could be very dramatic, and if it’s calculated with some care and intelligence, it could put Hillary right into the nomination. It’s a hard scenario to imagine, because of how fraught with difficulty it is, and how much it would exacerabate the “racial” angle (”uppity black man once again gets his whole world of possibilities stolen away from him by Whitey”,etc etc.) but the pros for Hillary far outweigh the cons. Handled right, a Hillary upsurge at the Convention would rally SO MANY people to her, not so much to vote for her, but as a classically moderating influence in the Party , with ultimately broader appeal than the Messianic Obama. The Party Deciders may not believe it now, but in due time they’ll see Hillary has a better chance of defeating McCain than Obama does, and it could ALL HAPPEN BECAUSE OF HOW THEY ENGINEER what happens in Denver. I can actually see for the first time the possibilities of Hillary’s not only getting the nomination, but getting the Presidency.

Do you want to bet? I say Hillary Clinton has ZERO chance of getting the nomination. If you think otherwise then let us make a bet. If I am right you donate $ 100 to FR, if I lose I donate $ 100 to FR.

THose are not good “odds”—the “odds” of Hillary getting the nomination ,in ANYONE’S mind but my own and a few others, are about 100,000 to 1 , if not higher.
To most minds, including yours, Obama HAS the nomination, so it’s a fait accompli, and the odds are exactly reversed, about 1-100,000, if not higher. THat means you should pay me (or FR) $100,000 for every dollar I would have to pay you. I am proposing, and willing to bet on, the ultimate longshot. I should be rewarded for that. That’s the way it works in betting.

Come on you are trying to avoid this by making it very complicated :) We are not in Las Vegas here and we are not gambling. It is a very simple thing and I should call it a challenge rather than a bet. If Hillary Clinton is the nominee I will donate $ 100 to Free Republic, if Obama is the nominee you donate $ 100 dollar to Free Republic.

Also your posts indicate that you are so sure that Hillary Clinton is going to be the nominee so you should not be afraid to accpet my challenge.

Regardless McCain will be our next President and I am so happy about it. President McCain will continue to destroy Al Qaeda terrorists everywhere and eventually do something about the terrorist regime in Tehran.

God Bless President Bush, our brave troops, and John McCain.

God bless America.
