What A Vice President Looks Like
Bob Parks: Black & Right ^ | 8/16/08 | Bob Parks

While the Obama and McCain campaigns were issuing speeches and statements during the Russian invasion of Georgia, who got the cease-fire job done?

Anyone, anyone?

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday signed the plan for a cease-fire in Georgia that his Georgian counterpart reluctantly agreed to a day earlier, setting the stage for a Russian troop withdrawal after more than a week of warfare.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili signed the deal Friday in Tbilisi after lengthy talks with Washington's top diplomat, Condoleezza Rice.

You know a Condoleezza Rice-VP slot is not in the Democrats' best interest when the AP story relegates the cease-fire broker credit to paragraph six.

Condi Rice, of course, and I’ve thought this way since before the campaign began.

Anyone who believes that someone like Mitt Romney or untested newbies like Pawlenty or Sarah Palin can outdo Hillary Clinton as a veep choice among women voters is simply whistling past the graveyard. Talk like that is what the True Believers tell each other at CPAC.

I now believe that Obama wants to nail down the election by putting Clinton on as the Veep Choice. Rice is McCain’s only credible answer that wraps up both experience and change in the same package.

This isn’t fair to the conservative base, but who said life was fair?

Be Seeing You,

Chris

an election killer...I agree
I've been listening to people say Jeb Bush can't be run.
No more Bushes is the cry.
Well, when people look at her, all they see is George Bush.

Nope. No. Never and Not. I won’t vote for a social liberal, pro-Palestinian Foggy Bottom screw-up who is ambiguous at best about Obama.

Who won't take a prolife position.

I put this under "social liberal".

Any Republican ticket will be rejected by 95% of black voters this year.

McCain could pick the Risen Christ as his running mate and it wouldn't matter. That's not the point.

If Obama picks Hillary, and I now believe he will, then you need someone who can core into white females, especially Republican women, who are sympathetic to Hillary, and who resonate with Condi's life experience and center-right politics. You also want someone who will sit well with pro-defense men at the same time. Lastly, you want someone who, like Hillary, can be thought of as "a President" if something happens to McCain.

Sarah Palin is great, but that's not her.

Condi's absolutist position on the 2nd Amendment will also help a John McCain who has had trouble in the past with the Gun Lobby.

She's also much better on life issues than either Clinton or Obama, and has supported the President's position on partial birth, the Hyde Amendment, and parental notification. She simply believes that abortion should be returned to the states.

Calling her a social liberal is a bit of a reach. She's more of a libertarian.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

"I now believe that Obama wants to nail down the election by putting Clinton on as the Veep Choice". Interesting. That would explain the roll call vote and all the attention the Clinton's will get at the convention (Assuming she doesn't get the nomination).

Me thinks it is just the beginning of her plan if it turns out she gets the veep nod.

I will be surprised if Hillary is not Barack’s running mate. Especially since he has practically handed the convention over to her. He knows he can't win without her and had to give her everything she wanted to get her to join the ticket.

Look, you all know I’m as conservative as any of you out there. I’m just looking at November and what could be the best way for us to win, considering the silly-putty nature of the general electorate. If you think “conservative only” will solidify the vote, cool. However, the liberal press and “change” voters I fear won’t be as accommodating.

This has absolutely nothing to do with "conservative only". I am an American first and a "Conservative" second and have been going toe to toe with the McCain-hating "purists" on FR for months. My Post 13 on this thread says it all.

My point is that America needs a person with backbone both in the Oval Office and a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

McCain has a backbone. Condi Rice does not.

Saakashvilli foolishly walked into a well laid KGB trap. It was Rice’s job to extricate him, and the Georgian state, from that trap.

Her job was not to allow Georgia to fall into the trap in the first place. After the predictable disaster, being the First Responder to show up at the crash scene with the Spatula of Life to scrape you off of the pavement does not score any points.

She did so in a praiseworthy manner.

As I noted before, in terms of the ceasefire, "the Russians dictated the terms, the French pretended to be the midwives, the Georgians suffered what they must and Condi Rice, voice quivering, stood around as window dressing".

Condi Rice's role in the post crash mess was negligible.

Unfortunately she has refused to date. But worse than that in the last interview with her that I watched she refused to take any stance against obama. Seemed to almost repeat Powell’s words.”

Powell is supporting Nobama.

How have your thoughts changed now that it’s Biden, not Hillary?
