Washington, DC - Today, the National Stonewall Democrats applauded the Obama campaign and Democratic advocates for proposing the most sweeping pro-LGBT national platform in Democratic Party history. The Democratic National Committee has now released the platform that will be proposed to delegates in Denver. For the first time in party history, the Democratic National Platform calls on Democrats to enact policy which opposes discrimination on the basis of gender identity - a key provision advocated by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Democrats.

"For the first time, the 2008 Democratic platform includes everyone in our community, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity," said Jon Hoadley, Executive Director of the Stonewall Democrats. "The Democratic Party is now standing with the majority of LGBT Americans in our belief that advancing pro-equality policy means comprehensive protections for our entire community."
From its initial draft, the proposed 2008 Democratic National Platform calls for Democrats to oppose discrimination on the basis of gender identity. Additionally, the language prompts Democratic officials to work for a "comprehensive, bipartisan Employment Non-Discrimination Act" that includes protections on the basis of disability, sexual orientation and gender identity. This provision is seen as key by LGBT and allied Democrats, who will now use this comprehensive language to build additional support among Democratic officials for ENDA.
Yes! Please, Dems, make this front and center in your platform!!!
I thought LGBT was the maker of those outdoor model railroads.....
DO IT! PLEASE! I TRIPLE DOG DARE YA!
LGBT stands for Lesbo,Flamer,AC/DC and Tranny?.....My oh my.
I think The Obama should pick a tranny for V.P......
Yup. Gov. Deval has a daughter who’s a lesbian. She “came out of the closet” recently.
A reporter asked the governor how he felt about all of that and he answered something very much like “I love her and I’m proud of her.”
I saw that first on FR.
A fellow Freeper posted this response to the governor’s quote(paraphrasing now): “If she had been seeing a guy, would he be as proud if the two were sleeping together?”
Crackerjack poser.
Tyranny by the minority.
Typical leftist
If this is the way the system is suppose to work, the person getting the least number of votes should be elected, not the one getting the majority of the vote and will of the people.
They usually aren’t this up front about their agenda. They prefer to work from cover and from stealth.
This surprises me. You’d think they’d wait to get into power before pulling this little hat trick.
Of course, they might be counting on no one outside of their base paying any attention right now.
And Obama favors repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act.
The Defense of Marriage Act defines marriage under federal law as a man and a woman. This law does not ban benefits for same-sex partners or ban states from allowing same-sex partner benefits or same-sex civil union or domestic partner type legislation. All it does is define what marriage is.
Obama says he believes marriage is a man and a woman, yet he favor repeal of a law which defines marriage that way, without discriminating against anyone.
So why would he favor repealing a law which defines what marriage is, if the law defines marriage in the manner which he approves of?
“I’d ask Dick Cheney’s daughter, who is a lesbian...”
Kerry?
This convention is going to look like a college production of the musical HAIR.
“They prefer to work from cover and from stealth.”....
I think that’s gone out the window. They don’t care anymore and that’s good for us.
every issue the left supports is anti-family

I’ve held, for years, that
in order to defeat the left,
simply expose the left.
They make the mistake of thinking that, since everyone has the same opinion in their little lefthanded circlejerks, that it’s “safe” to express those opinions publicly.
They really have a death wish, don’t they?
Admittedly, I’m talking about the deep South, but where I live, this would be the Kiss Of Death for the Democrats I know. Down here, you keep this sort of stuff private...
Sheesh!
Well, if they win and enact this, it will certainly lead to the ENDA times.
