I personally will NEVER FORGET the infectious kindness of one ED (”Too Tall”) FREEMAN,

...at our “WE WERE SOLDIERS” Battle of IA DRANG-1965’s 40th Anniversary Commemoration. A Ceremony held on Veterans Day-2005 at the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C. ***

~40th Anniversary - “WE WERE SOLDIERS” Battle - The Wall~

..taken as we all entered the grounds of the Vietnam Wall in November 2005

.

After our being personally greeted at The Wall’s west entrance as we IA DRANG-1965 Veterans entered, by then newly appointed Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Gen. PETER PACE, we were all seated in front to listen to the General’s Keynote Speech. He went on to stirringly speak to us about our current War on Terrorism he was now leading.

ED (”Too Tall”) FREEMAN came over to me afterwards and joyfully said..

“Aloha, Ronnie, how ya doing? This is pretty fun, huh?”
As we then warmly embraced each other.

Thusly spurred on by one “Too Tall”
...as we were leaving The Wall grounds I came up to Gen. PACE to personally thank him for his protecting us and our loved ones now in a new time of war in a new century.

The General looked down at me with his 5 Stars and replied:

“Thank YOU, Ronnie, for leading the way..!!”

A totally unexpected pearl of great price I graciously accepted on behalf of so many deserving others.

Thanks to YOU, “Too Tall”..!!!

“...This is pretty fun, huh?”
At least calmer than a hot LZ
Thanks for sharing that memory - my eyes are a little misty.

Moore: You're a pilot?

Freeman: Yes, sir. "Too Tall".

Moore: I can see that.

Freeman: You call, we haul.

If there's been a previous instance of an military aviator receiving the MOH from a previous military aviator, I can't think of it.

Yeah, he was a long ol' drink of water, wasn't he? May god bless him and keep him forever now....
