But that lead, suggest conservative commentators, would evaporate were a pro-abortion pick selected to run with McCain. And McCain BETTER realize this!

The Tom Ridge tour and equivication regarding a pro-abort running mate was partly a nod to a good friend, partly a public relations ploy to play up his maverick image to the media.

Is it True McCain "Got the Message" About not Running a Pro-Abortion VP? He said the same about Comprehensive Immigration Reform......then came all those meetings with hispanics.

Somehow we picked up either NBC or one of the other lib networks for a few minutes tonight, and they were orgasmic over McCain picking a pro murder baby killing VP.
The remote was activated immediately.

Fox News had many American moral conservatives very pleased yesterday with a report from unnamed Republican National Committee officials that "senior McCain advisers and aides have told GOP officials that McCain 'got the message' last week that choosing a running mate who supports abortion rights would not be helpful." The news came in reaction to an uproar from the Republican base after Senator John McCain floated the possibility of pro-abortion Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge as a potential running mate last week.
Floating Tom Ridge's name was probably a deliberate red herring by the McCain Campaign to provoke exactly this sort of reaction by Conservatives ... therefore allowing McCain to be accomidating to their wishes when he announces a pro-life running mate that was selected some time ago (iow, created a situation that allows McCain to throw Conservatives a bone that creates a win-win situation).

McCain will be Romney. You can bank on it.

IMHO, the McCain camp has floated a number of pro-choice VP names to prepare people for his final choice...Ridge = pro-choice lite (has no record of pushing it), Giuliani pro-choice medium (used to push it more, now shuts up about it), Lieberman pro-choice heavy (up front pro-choice)...leaving used to be pro-choice but now is total pro-life...Mitt Romney...magritte

Is it true McCain "Got the Message" about not running a pro-abortion VP?Doubtful.
If you have to explain to the candidate why choosing a "pro-choice" running mate is wrong, the candidate didn't get it in the first place.

In a speech today McCain reiterated his Pro-Life answer from Saddleback. He then said his VP pick would share his principles values and priorities.
SO...
If John McCain would pick a Pro-abort running-mate after what he said at Saddleback last Sat., and what he’s repeated since, it would prove to everyone that he’s insincere. It would make what he said at Saddleback look like a pack of lies.
What confidence we might have had that he would pick good Jurists would also be destroyed by a Pro-Abort VP pick.
Any “conservative” hope for his term in office would be utterly destroyed.
McCain is a Maverick and a RINO but he’s a smart man and wants to win this. I think (and feel) that he fully understands he cannot win unless he picks a Pro-Life VP.

Pretty sure McCain will be picking Romney. That should please most here, if you consider Romney pro-life.

Simply put, if McCain picks a pro death VP, he loses.
Never mind what his former DNC friends say.

In general, FR has not shown a great deal of pleasure when Romney gets close to any kind of nomination. No wonder, when you look at his state record.

Romney and Huck are both nanny staters. I can’t believe we have Freepers actually defending these clowns.
And don’t get me started on McCain. It’s a really sad state that we’ve fallen to here.

I hope so, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
It’s all a grotesque game of “can’t we all just get along” to McCain.
