Allen West Offers Solutions, Freshman Dem Whines[Do nothing Congress]
August 21, 2008 | Allen West

On Tuesday August 19, 2008, Rep. Ron Klein (D) took an opportunity to whine about his failure to get a national catastrophic insurance fund bill passed. He blamed John McCain and Se. Mel Martinez for his failure to get the bill passed through a Democrat majority in both the House and Senate. Of course, tropical storm Fay was approaching the State of Florida when he decided to bring the issue up.

Here's LTC Allen West's response to Rep. Ron Klein:

Tropical Storm Fay reminded us of a promise by Ron Klein - to ensure access to affordable insurance that would protect Florida homeowners in the wake of powerful storms. Klein blames his Republican colleagues in the Senate for his own failure to pass legislation in a Congress controlled by his own Democratic Party.

Klein has time during his five week taxpayer-funded vacation to complain to the press and assign blame for his legislation’s defeat in the Senate. Similar versions have failed before. Quitting after the first try and whining about it won’t bring much needed relief to Florida homeowners and their families. The people of the State of Florida need a Representative who will be a tenacious advocate for their interests in the U.S. Congress. That means not giving up after the first try.

That also means developing a sensible interim course of action now that will provide relief to Florida’s families. Here are some suggestions:

1. Take a Regional approach to the issue. Florida is not the only state to suffer catastrophic losses in a storm. 2. Have insurance companies pool resources across state lines to minimize risk and increase coverage options. 3. Allow tax credits to cover catastrophic repairs beyond insurance payouts. 4. Continue to refine the process in later phases – but get workable solutions on the table now!

The 110th Congress charged in with new members such as Ron Klein, on promises of action and change. They have done less than any Congress in twenty years, with only 294 laws enacted, 81 of which named post offices. My advice to Ron Klein is to stop bashing the people he should be working with and develop legislation that will pass the House and Senate for the sake of Floridians and all Americans. Or step aside. We need action, not excuses.

West is correct. Actions speak louder then words. Whiners, complainers, excuse makers, and blame game types are like an employee who blames another or others for their terrible job performance. These negative types, if allowed to remain in a business, cause distractions to motivated and productive employees. They are like a cancer to their department. Most employers find a way to fire them.
