When Sen. Charles Schumer of New York, the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, lists the November races that will swell his party's majority, New Hampshire is one of the first he brags about. Here on the ground, it looks a lot less certain that Democrat Jeanne Shaheen will cut short the promising career of Sen. John Sununu, namesake son of a White House chief of staff under the first President Bush. Shaheen, a former governor who lost a close race to Sununu six years ago in an environment much more hospitable to Republicans, was a double-digit favorite early this year when she heeded supporters' pleas and left a Harvard administrative job to test Sununu again. But last weekend, as she and Sununu marched with their supporters in the Londonderry parade and then hobnobbed with voters at the Greekfest here, Shaheen acknowledged that things have changed. Reflecting on a University of New Hampshire poll released July 23 that gave her a 46 percent to 42 percent lead -- the tightest in any public poll in a year -- Shaheen said, "We always knew it would be close. It's always difficult to beat an incumbent."

Jean is an empty suit AND she is getting old and not aging gracefully. Look for the turnout to be rid of Shea/Porter to give Sununu a boost as well.

Yeah, I’m just as worried about Gordon Smith’s seat in Oregon. It hasn’t appeared on RCP as a likely Dem take over, but if McCain doesn’t do well then it easily could flip. Smith has been a solid conservative his whole career, but has had to face political realities of the tarnished GOP image. That has caused many conservatives to turn against him. Oregon isn’t Alabama and I hope some of the 100%’ers back off the Gordon Smiths, John Sununu’s, and Norm Coleman’s we need so that the voices of Jim Demint et al can be heard.

And didn't the media start out saying the initial exit polls said it was way to close to call. And when Hillary took the early lead, it was said that when the areas where there were lots of young people came in the race would be very close?
I seem to recall that Hillary won new Hampshire and didn't she win Massachusetts as well. They must just love Obama in new England.... don't they. If you don't believe me ask the media. They'll tell you. But please don't ask the voters, they always have their own ideas.
That is true. I am going to help young John as much as I can. Shaheen was a real dud as a governor. We don’t need her any more. She should go back to her native Missouri and give it another shot. She came from a Republican family but something obviously went terribly wrong. Maybe when she met Billy.
Those are good points, Tator. All Shaheen and the rest of the Democrats have going for them is their hatred of Bush and the voters are finally realizing that he ain’t on the ballot this year, much as the Democrats wish he was and are trying to make the election about Bush. With any luck at all we can also get rid of the two losers who took our congressional seats in ‘06. They are both embarrassments, especially that idiot Carol Che Porter.

Now, even IN the very unlikely situation of a filibuster-proof majority, conservatives with balls (like Tom Coburn and John Cornyn and Jeff Sessions) WILL be heard (granted, to a lesser degree and he’ll have to work harder) and they WILL embarrass his Donkee colleagues. And, make no mistake, they WILL get press. If the Dims have the majority even the MSM will get on ‘em, otherwise they can’t justify their sorry existence.
On the other hand— we don’t need any more brainless “Gang of XX” stupid self-serving deals cut by your buddies.

Here is the key to our conservatives “being heard.”
You can’t set the agenda in Congress unless you control the committee chairmanships. For that, in reality, you need the support of RINOs that will be elected from blue states.
Why is Nancy Pelosi speaker? Because of Barney Franks from Mass? NO. Because of people like HEATH SHULER from RED STATES. Throw out those “conservative” (Comparatively) and replace them with Republicans, or replace some of these close races where “moderate” Dems won in Red states like Indiana and Arizona, and you put the Boehner in the Speaker’s chair and cut the nuts off of the socialists like Conyers et al. and give power to Pence, Shadegg, etc.
THAT is why you need the RINOS...the power is in the CHAIRMANSHIPS. For that, the reality is, you need RINOS also.
