Cindy McCain to visit distressed Georgia: Announcement comes as Michelle Obama addresses DNC

SACRAMENTO, California - John McCain told a crowd at a fundraiser that his wife is on her way to the embattled nation of Georgia, an announcement coming just hours before Barack Obama's wife makes a high-profile speech at the Democratic National Convention.

McCain told a crowd that wife, Cindy, was to accompany him on his visit to California and he apologized for her absence.

"Cindy is not here today and I'm sorry she's not," said McCain. "She's on her way to the little country of Georgia."

McCain has been a staunch supporter of Georgia in that country's clash with Russia, and sending his wife there underscores his commitment. It also could deflect attention from Michelle Obama's convention speech in Denver as the Obama campaign seeks to introduce the family to voters.

In his speech to the fundraiser, McCain did not mention Michelle Obama's speech, but did give the 500 people attending the event something of a history lesson.

"Georgia was one of the first Christian nations," McCain said. "Georgia, back in the Third Century, the king of Georgia converted to Christianity. You see churches there that date back to the Fourth and Fifth Century."

Does anybody else find it odd that the wife of a US Senator is going to the country of Georgia to comfort the locals? What can she possibly do to aid their situation?

I’m like many here who have been reluctant to voice support for McQuig, but they have fast won my respect. I could have never expected such a nimble and proactive campaign. Barry has been on defense since he won the nomination. This is actually fun to watch.

Now of these guys would spent some time with the Bengals.

Uh, why the hell would you allow your wife to go into harms way like that. It's not like its not still a hotspot.

Weird. Btw, who is paying her trip? Mr.Scheunemann?

No offense to Senator McCain but I think Cindy McCain is definitely the better half of the marriage. I’m sure the Senator would agree. She’ll be a terrific first lady.

Oh, I forgot, Mrs. Obamao bitches about the poor and Cindy does something about it.

Not to fret, Mrs. Obamao will soon have “our” money to donate to everybody.

She is going to show the Georgian’s and the Russians that the next president of the US takes the Russian’s incursion into the soverign nation of Georgia very seriously and will continue to support the Georgian cause for freedom and independence. This is a brilliant move - not just meant to be an in-your-face slap at Obama’s lackadasical response but to show that McCain’s mean business and will continue to support democracy against tyranny!
Cindy for First Lady, indeed !!

Schmidt is a thousand times more savvy than Rove.

McCain is not going to sit back and take a lot of slander from the begala/carviles of the world.
