Petraeus for VP?
Just Thinking | Monday, August 25, 2008 | Momaw Nadon

I think General David Petraeus would be a great choice for McCain's VP.

It would be the Heroes vs. the Zeroes.

I’m Sorry BUT, BOLTON would be the greatest VP and future President EVER!

I spent last year at the Army’s Command and General Staff College. That was a part of GEN Petraeus’ command before he went to Iraq, and he left a huge impression there. As for his politics, he’s about as apolitical as it gets, at least publicly. He’s part of a long line of Army officers (at least as far back as Marshall) who believes that voting in a presidential election would compromise their ability to serve should their candidate not win. I’ve also heard, anecdotally, that he can be a jackass to work for.

That said, I’d vote for the man for whatever office he ran for. But I think he’s a little too busy to worry about it this time around.

Thanks for the comments. I certainly commend him for trying to remain apolitical (difficult to do, certainly, especially given how the political parties view the role of the military). The only problem with that is that he has the potential to go in any different direction. He could be a solid Conservative, or he could be a liberal as VP. We just don’t know.

What good General is not a jackass to work for? They expect a lot from their people.

As my all-time favorite Chief told me, "I don't get paid to be liked."

And I think I said that to a few of my subordinates, too. :P

Isn't Dick Cheney still eligible?
