Obama to Highlight Tax Cuts
Wall Street Journal ^ | August 27, 2008 | MONICA LANGLEY

Posted on 08/27/2008 8:39:14 AM PDT by djsherin

Barack Obama said he plans to focus on the struggles of middle-class Americans, including their tax burden, in his Thursday night speech accepting the Democratic nomination for president.

"The single most important thing I have to make clear is the choice we have in November between the same failed policy of the last eight years for the middle class and the new agenda to boost income for Americans and help families who are struggling," he said in a brief interview with The Wall Street Journal Tuesday. "I will make that contrast very clearly."

In response to Republican ads and his Republican opponent, John McCain, that have painted Sen. Obama as a tax-and-spend liberal, the Illinois senator said he wants to ease taxes on middle-income wage earners, a position that will be a key part of his primetime speech Thursday.

"In Missouri, and other battleground states, Republican ads say I would raise taxes… but my plan would provide three times more tax relief to the middle class," he said. "I don't think people realize that, and I hope that message will be absorbed by the electorate."

I can see the ads now:

1992 “middle class tax cuts”

1993 Uh, no.

2008 “middle class tax cuts”

2009 Uh, no.

I’m still not sure what policies of the last eight years have failed the middle class.

I know I’m better off than I was in the Clinton years, and I can’t think of anyone I know who isn’t.

The only thing worse than eight years ago is gas prices, and failed democrat energy policies (or a lack of any policy)have a lot to do with those.

The only thing a Democrat has ever cut is your income and freedom.
Who do you think gets thrown under the bus on this one?

More tax cuts for people who don't pay taxes. The bottom 50% of taxpayers already pay less than 3% of all Federal income taxes. The bottom 75% pay less than 14%. Who does he think he's kidding?

"he wants to ease taxes on middle-income wage earners"

That's the same lie bj tpld in 92, just before raising taxes in'93.

In fact its the same lie the dims use every election season.

It makes no difference whether government controls
allegedly favor the interests of labor or business,
of the poor or the rich, of a special class or a
special race: the results are the same.
The notion that a dictatorship can benefit any one
social group at the expense of others is a worn
remnant of the Marxist mythology of class warfare,
refuted by half a century of factual evidence.
All men are victims and losers under a dictatorship;
nobody wins-except the ruling clique.

Where have I heard this before, let me think, hmm, think, think ... Ah I have it -— I worked harder than I ever have in my entire life and just can’t find out how to give a middle class tax cuts.

Still waiting on the BJ CLinton’s middle class tax cut are you ... It worked for BJ, why not let Obama take it for a spin.

That’s not quite fair. The demonRATs, B. Hussein Obama includede, have a non-vaccuous misconception of the middle class: they mean folks in households with incomes between the poverty line and oh, something like the median annual pay of a member of the UAW. Anyone making more than that is ‘rich’.

My favorite is the spin saying that it is a “net tax cut”.

Yeah, after they let the Bush tax cut die, they cut the Clinton tax INCREASE back a few tents of a percent for the lowest earners (and therefore lowest taxed already) while dropping the 16-ton weight on the producers and the employers.

No thanks.

The devil’s in the details. Define “middle class.”

0bambi considers anyone filing as a single taxpayer making over $32K “rich” because that’s where the break point is where the taxes start going up under his plan. Marrieds filing jointly get hit at about $55K, if they don’t have kids. That’s COMBINED income, folks. Yeah, tell me he cares about the “middle class.” Sure he does.

I’ve come to believe any democrat who says “middle class” means someone who gets a tax credit, or welfare, and does not ever pay taxes.....as an aside...was just thinking about my husband’s salary.....he brings home about 1/2 of what he really gross’s.....between SS, Medicare taxes, income taxes, medical/dental premiums, and 401K savings, etc. When he retires....our “income” will go up.

It worked for BJ Clinton (the promise before the election, not the delivery after he was elected)

You have to know which the “middle class” he is talking about. Not the middle class who are truly in the middle of the earnings bracket, but the “middle class” that are in the middle of the TAXPAYER’S BRACKET. When you look at who pays the taxes, 45% pay practically all of it. He is going to get rid of the few taxes that the bottom 55% pay and place it on the 45% whoa re already paying too much. The result is that for the first time in US history, the looters will outnumber the producers, voting themselves more and more of the producers money until they have destroyed the country.

middle class = people without jobs and who don’t pay taxes

I’m in favor of across-the-board tax cuts for everyone who pays taxes.

If you want to talk about middle class tax cuts, how about focusing on the real middle class — household incomes of 50K-350K
