~Favorite Southern Rock Song~

FreeBird-Lynyrd Skynyrd-Lyrics Included

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me
For I must be traveling on now
There's too many places I've got to see

If I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change

Oh, and this bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows I can't change

Bye-bye babe, it's been sweet, love
'Though this feeling I can't change
But please don't take this so badly
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame

But if I stay here with you girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change

Oh, and this bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows I can't change
Lord help me I can't change

Oh no, I can't change

Marshall Tucker Band Can't You See

I'm gonna take a freight train, down at the station

I don't care where it goes
Gonna climb me a mountain, the highest mountain, Lord,
Gonna jump off, nobody gonna know
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me
I'm gonna find me a hole in the wall, gona crawl inside and die
That lady, mean ol' woman Lord, done told me goodbye
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me

Gonna buy me a ticket now, as far as I can, ain't never comin' back
Take me Southbound, all the way to Georgia now, till the train run out of track
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman, she been doin' to me
Can't you see, can't you see, what that woman been doin' to me

Molly Hatchet- Bounty Hunter

My horse is kicking dust up off the trail,
I'm just getting back from a trip to HELL.
My six gun she's stapped by my side,
Thunder is the horse that I ride.
And it seems to me this is one hell of a way,
For a man like me to earn that pay.

Chorus:
Outlaws on the loose.
Running, running from the noose.

Blue steel flashing, hot lead flying,
I wonder what they feel like when they're dying.
Someday soon it might be my turn,
Is it worth the money I earn?

And it seems to me this is one hell of a way,
For a man like me to earn that pay.

Chorus:
Outlaws on the loose,
Running, running from the noose.
I'm a bounty hunter, I'll hunt you down, yeah, I will.

LEAD BREAK

Did you know $500 will get your head blown off?
It will....ha, ha, ha

Blue steel flashing, hot lead flying,
I wonder what they fell like when they're dying.
Someday soon it might be my turn,
Is it worth the money I earn?

And it seems to me this is one hell of a way,
For a man like me to earn that pay.

Chorus:
Outlaws on the loose,
Running, running from the noose,
(REPEAT),
I'm a bounty hunter going to hunt you down.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama

Big wheels keep on turning
Carry me home to see my kin
Singing songs about the southland
I miss alabamy once again
And I think its a sin, yes

Well I heard mister young sing about her
Well, I heard ole neil put her down
Well, I hope neil young will remember
A southern man dont need him around anyhow

Sweet home alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home alabama
Lord, Im coming home to you

In birmingham they love the governor
Now we all did what we could do
Now watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you?
Tell the truth

Sweet home alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home alabama
Lord, Im coming home to you
Here I come alabama

Now muscle shoals has got the swampers
And theyve been known to pick a song or two
Lord they get me off so much
They pick me up when Im feeling blue
Now how about you?

Sweet home alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet home alabama
Lord, Im coming home to you

Sweet home alabama
Oh sweet home baby
Where the skies are so blue
And the governors true
Sweet home alabama
Lordy
Lord, Im coming home to you
Yea, yea montgomerys got the answer

Looking Out My Back Door - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Just got home from Illinois, lock the front door, oh boy!
Got to sit down, take a rest on the porch.
Imagination sets in, pretty soon I'm singing,

CHORUS:

Doo, doo, doo, Looking out my back door.
There's a giant doing cartwheels,
A statue wearing high heels.
Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn.
A dinosaur Victrola listening to Buck Owens.

CHORUS

Tambourines and elephants are playing in the band.
Won't you take a ride on the flying spoon?

Doo, doo doo.
Wond'rous apparition provided by magician.

CHORUS

Tambourines and elephants are playing in the band.
Won't you take a ride on the flying spoon?
Doo, doo doo.
Bother me tomorrow, today, I'll buy no sorrows.

CHORUS

Forward troubles Illinois, lock the front door, oh boy!
Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn.
Bother me tomorrow, today, I'll buy no sorrows.

GEORGE THOROGOOD "Bad To The Bone"

On the day I was born, the nurses all gathered 'round

And they gazed in wide wonder, at the joy they had found
The head nurse spoke up, and she said leave this one alone
She could tell right away, that I was bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
Bad to the bone

I broke a thousand hearts, before I met you
I'll break a thousand more baby, before I am through
I wanna be yours pretty baby, yours and yours alone
I'm here to tell ya honey, that I'm bad to the bone
Bad to the bone
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-Bad

Bad to the bone

I make a rich woman beg, I'll make a good woman steal
I'll make an old woman blush, and make a young woman squeal
I wanna be yours pretty baby, yours and yours alone
I'm here to tell ya honey, that I'm bad to the bone
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad
B-B-B-B-Bad

Bad to the bone

Green Grass and High Tides

In a place you only dream of
Where your soul is always free
Silver stages, golden curtains
Filled my head, plain as can be

As a rainbow grew round the sun
All the stars I've love who died
Came from somewhere beyond the scene you see
These lovely people played just for me
Now if I let you see this place
Where stories all ring true
Will you let me past your face
To see what's really you
It's not for me I ask these questions

As though I were a king
For you have to love, believe and feel
Before the burst of tamborines take you there

(chorus)
Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone souls and glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you

Those who don't believe me
Find your souls and set them free
Those who do, believe and love
As time will be your key
Time and time again I've thanked them
For a piece of mind
They helped me find myself
Amongst the music and the rhyme

That enchants you there

I like that song about ‘whiskey for my men and beer for my horses.’ (I’m not up on Current Events in this area, obviously.)

However, I did hear (through my younger co-workers who are in their THIRTIES fer Pete’s Sake and should be worrying about Global Warming or some other such stupidity) that Metallica has a new album coming out this week!

Does knowing that make me “hip and happenin’?” LOL!

I am a huge Marshall Tucker fan as I lived in Spartanburg SC and my brother went to same high school as Toy and Tommy Caldwell. Live version of 24 Hours at a time is one of the greatest songs ever.

Sea Level with Chuck Leavell, Jimmy Nalls, Jaimao put out a lot of great music.

The Allman Brothers are southern rock. Will be at the show in Raleigh in October. They are as good as ever Derick Trucks and Warren Haynes bring new life to the band.

“Sweet Home Alabama” is a classic...any song that says “Watergate does not bother me” and knocks Neil Young down a notch has to be a favorite. Those guys are real patriots.

I actually like Molly Hatchet’s “Flirtin’ with Disaster.”

The Doobie Brother’s “China Grove” is one of the best rock songs ever.

Gotta mention my favorite Southern Rock band: Widespread Panic from Athens GA. They fly under the radar for the most part, as far as radio play, and they focus on touring like the Dead did.

My favorite song by them, even though it’s a cover: Use Me (Bill Withers)

Saw this version live in New Orleans, with Karl Denson and Col. Bruce Hampton:
