Dems nervous over Invesco risks (Second thoughts!)

Senior Democratic officials are expressing serious concerns about the political risks posed by Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium Thursday evening.

From the elaborate stagecraft to the teeming crowd of 80,000 cheering partisans, the vagaries of the weather to the unpredictable audience reaction, the optics surrounding the stadium event have heightened worries that the Obama campaign is engaging in a high-risk endeavor in an uncontrollable environment.

A common concern: that the stadium appearance plays against Obama’s convention goal of lowering his star wattage and connecting with average Americans and that it gives Republicans a chance to drive home their message that the Democratic nominee is a narcissistic celebrity candidate.

(snip)

“It’s likely that the campaign would do it differently if it had to do it again because the decision was made before the European trip,” said a senior Democratic elected officeholder who has worked closely with the Obama campaign.

It's starting to dawn on some in the Rat establishment that Barry is going way over the top with his stadium venue and "temple" theatrics, which will likely turn off middle America in the worst possible way for them.

But he can't help it in order to build the legend. He will be the first since JFK to have an outdoors acceptance speech. Between that and Berlin, the guy has serious delusions of grandeur.

They will drape flags all over the place and incorporate MLK’s image somewhere in the ceremonies.

Notwithstanding the jokes about the Cincinnati Bungles, but they play tonight in Indy. Our Channel 12, which is showing the game said they are going to switch coverage at 10 pm to show the Brawk Hussein speech.

There are going to be a whole lotta ticked off football fans here tonight.

Also I think we should’ve kept quiet about it, let Obama do his thing them hit him afterwards. Now they might try to tone it down somehow....

I predict a multimedia display with the two screens in the temple and a laser light show backdrop to a slight shouldered black fellow silhouetted in the show.

This speech would be better if everyone in the audience would wear the same uniforms. And they need lots of torches. And Obama should speak forcefully for four hours...

Every candidate tries to invoke some attitude or great setting when they have an audience to rally, sway or hang on to. What’s truly disconcerting is the heavy-handedness of Sen. Obama’s attempt. Surely he must understand the multitude of interpretations such a colonnade would beget — or is he so single-minded that he has damped the echoes of Nuremberg? Worse yet, as in Berlin, does he really believe he has earned the backdrop that he has created for himself?

Either way, we should be concerned about this man’s perceptions and about his continued lack of even the appearance of humility despite repeated whispers from the soothsayers.

Too much third reich imagery - especially at night.

Too much stereotypical black underclass “bling” mentality.

“the vagaries of the weather to the unpredictable audience reaction,”

The mob will start chanting “Toga! Toga! Toga!” when His Messiahhood takes the pseudo-classical stage?
