Let me ask a question,
If McCain is going with public financing why would Romney’s money do him any good?
Are these the same sources who said the Secret Service had been dispatched to protect Chet Edwards?
I know there are a lot of Freepers who will be unhappy if it’s Romney, but I think this is a good pick.
I’ve thought all along that McCain’s ego would prevent him from picking Romney, the VP candidate of all. But I sure hope he proves me wrong.
If security sweeps are the giveaway, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney may be on the brink of being selected as Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) vice presidential running mate.
According to sources with strong Michigan ties, the Secret Service has conducted a security sweep of the home of Romney’s sister. Romney was raised in Michigan, where his father served as governor.
However, one campaign operative familiar with the working of a presidential-level campaign cautioned that a sweep of such a location could have been conducted in advance of Romney appearing as a surrogate — not the vice presidential nominee — at an upcoming McCain campaign stop in Michigan.
Any McCain campaign appearance in Michigan would likely include Romney, who remains popular there.
Other sources and some news reports have also suggested that Romney in the last few days might be traveling with a security detail, although exactly who employs this security detail could not be confirmed.
Romney finished first in Michigan’s January GOP presidential primary. McCain finished second in that race.

I don’t recall anyone saying the SS had checked out Edwards...the report that it would be Edwards came from a campaign leak, IIRC.
I still can’t believe Obama can honestly pass a Top Secret Clearance investigation.
He hangs or has hung with a terrorist, convicted embezzler and I am sure there is more.

Personally, I prefer Romney. Great economic background and will not let liberals get by with their lies.
I would point out that if McCain was visiting Romney at any point during the campaign (for reasons unrelated to the VP pick), the SS would check out the house. If Romney doesn’t have a house in Michigan anymore, he might have said, “Come over to my sister’s place on your Michigan campaign swing and we’ll get together.”
But it sure is odd timing if that’s true.
Agree. I’d be thrilled with Cantor or Romney.
