Secret Service Denies Romney Security Sweep
Roll Call ^ | August 28, 2008, 4:07 p.m. | By David M. Drucker

Posted on 08/28/2008 4:31:51 PM PDT by Perdogg

The Secret Service is denying that it conducted a security sweep of the Michigan home belonging to the sister of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R).

Roll Call earlier reported that the sweep took place, suggesting that it might be an indication that Romney was in line to be selected as Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) vice presidential running mate.

They’re small in number. Look at the FR VP poll.

Duncan Hunter would be so perfect the fit with John McCain in these times of war abroad and an invasion at home that McCain would not make it.

I don’t recall announcements of any sort when Obama was considering running, much less when he announced he was running for President. Can anybody offer links to address the Obama Secret Service vetting?

I remember when all of a sudden we were told he had SS coverage, but nothing about who, what, where, why, etc. was vetted, or investigated.

My point obviously is we are being told about SS “sweeping” Romney’s sister’s home, etc. as perhaps a clue he is going to be the VP choice of McCain, but nothing whatsoever IIRC about the SS sweep of Obama, and family when he started his campaign to become President.

McCain is just dumb enough to pick Romney.

I love my country, and I will not be a part of giving it over to the left. Not now, not ever.

My sentiments exactly. Preventing the collapse of freedom is my solitary goal this election.

I do like Mitt Romney and it will make me more motivated to get out and work for the ticket if Romney is on it but you are right that this election is only about keeping a Marxist out of the White House.

Obsessed Romney haters care more about perpetuating their hatred of Romney than they do about keeping America out of the hands of terror loving socialists like Obama/Biden.

And they are clearly beyond the reach of reason. I have no respect for at least one person on the list of possible choices but you won't hear me attacking any of the contenders because, as you state, the alternative would be so damaging to our nation.

Fred Thompson is in his late 60s, and more importantly, he looks even older than that. Picking him as veep when McCain himself is 72 would be a recipe for a blowout loss in November.

I can see the ads from the DNC now: “We are looking towards the future while the Republicans can do no better than to find two old white men born closer to the year 1900 than 2000.” Plus it would make McCain’s criticism of Obama being a celebrity look foolish if he turned around and picked someone that most Americans only know as a Hollywood actor.

I don’t hold out any hope that McCain will pick Hunter, that is just fantasy. We have a better chance of finding breasts on a Chinese gymnast. I am hoping for Cantor now, since he has been mentioned as a possibility. He seems to be squeaky clean, very conservative, and like Hunter, would leave the Dems scrambling for intel on him.

Putting Clarence Thomas on the bench or Condi Rice in the cabinet did not get us the black vote.

I don't consider Thomas and Rice picks as pandering. They were both very qualified persons when they were chosen, who just happened to be Blacks. Thomas' conservatism made him a very attractive pick rathen than his being Black. Rice has a Ph.D. in international studies with focus on Russia, so she had been taken under Republican administration even in the 1980s. Now, I'm not blind to say that them being Black was not an issue, but it's more like icing on the cake than pandering. I have to say, though, given their lack of experiences, if McCain chooses Sarah Palin or Meg Whitman, would be close to pandering.

“Romney would very likely cause a nObama presidency. He brings absolutely nothing to the ticket and in fact detracts a great deal from it.”

Your total political ignorance is once again on display. Brings absolutely nothing to the ticket eh. Not the brightest bulb in the pack, are you.

So they’re going to go by what hating idiots on FR say? I think not. Better to listen to Republican delegates, 38% of whom picked Romney in a recent poll. He got the highest percentage of all the hopefuls.

I cetainly agree with your assessment. I am still hopeful it's Romney, but you're right; Republicans like the safe, boring, choices.

I'd like to see Palin, Jindal in 2012. : )

I just finished swapping out my keyboard where I ruined it from barfing all over it due to reading the other thread. Then I read this one. I don’t give McCain much credit for good sense, but I pray he has enough not to pick Schmitt. It will make it nearly impossible to get behind this ticket with any fervor with a RINO and a mega-RINO on the ticket.
