(CNN) – A leading House Democrat said Thursday John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is a "risky" move that could ultimately prove disastrous to the Republican prospects in November.

Meanwhile, a top Senate Democrat said the pick is a "Hail Mary pass" and a "roll of the dice," in what is the initial reactions from McCain's rival party.

I can tell they’re already scared to death by their reaction.

Yup. And I'm enjoying it! :)

“Palin will bring in those people, women and those that see Obama as an arrogant, empty suit.”

Yup, and she’ll appeal to the heart of America....middle class families.

Obama’s done.

So it's official - John McCain has thrown a Hail Mary and tapped Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. The trad med types are ga-ga about what a game-changing choice Palin is. And they're right. It is a game-changer. The Palin pick takes a race already leaning toward Obama and pushes it further into his corner.

Why? Because Sarah Palin is the most unqualified VP nominee in modern history, with the possible exception of Admiral Stockdale.

It is going to be sooooooo much fun to see Gender Politics used AGAINST the RATs for a change.

Male street hustler from Chicago = greatest politician of our time.

Female Governor from Alaska = completely unqualified

I'll bet this guy is so scared, tonight he'll drive his Subaru Forrester into a lamppost.

ROTFLMAO!

On a more serious note, I think this pick helps McCain and improves his chances - but he may still lose.

We have a lot of work to do.

However, it's interesting how inevitable hardcore Democrats believe Obama's supposedly impending victory to be.

I think the insanity we saw from Democrats after Gore's loss and Kerry's loss will be eclipsed in the event of an Obama loss.

There will be demonstrations that turn violent.

There may be actual riots.

There will be numerous new conspiracy theories and new lawsuits in battleground states.

And the Clintons will resume control of the Democrat party.

It's going to be fun watching gender politics explode in the RATs face on this one.

It's already happening. Take a look at this thread on hillaryclintonforum.net

Good ol F#ck Schumer.

He’s pissed off because Palin isn’t going to get the VP spot like the last Democrat did - being married to the President. That’s how the dems get THEIR women VPs.

“You get me, you get Hillary!” Algore sat in a friggin’ closet for 8 years dreaming up all the things he did.

Sara Palin is a huntress, a fisherman, a sports enthusiast, pro-gun.

“Sara Palin makes Joe Biden look like a p*ssy.”

Hey, that sounds like an excellent campaign slogan!

Okay, if Obama wins, the Dems hold on to both houses of Congress, and there are no changes of Speaker or Senate President Pro Tem, their line of succession runs Barack Obama-Joe Biden-Nancy Pelosi-Robert Byrd. There’s a solid bunch for you right there. But wait! There’s more! Just imagine what the Cabinet will look like.

Women who have children with disabilities often vote Democrat, because these kids need huge financial resources from the public coffers.

Many of these women are going to identify with Sarah, and switch their vote. When she showed up with that tiny baby in back of her on stage, that is genius.

I think The One is screwed too. Hillary is a very “hard” lady. Palin is tough but not hard. That will appeal to a lot of Americans.

Speaking as an original Reagan Democrat (read my FR profile) McCain just hit the Grand Slam of all Grand Slams with this pick, and Palin in her speech, thanking Hillary for breaking the glass ceiling has just sealed the deal for the moderate womens vote. Can you say Landslide?

If I was an Obama supporter I would be very very worried.

The Dems will point to Sarah Palin’s pro-life principles as a reason for the 18 million PUMAs to not vote for her.

I pray that 18 million American women believe protecting unborn children is a lesser evil than putting Obama and his Marxist cronies near the Oval Office.

This is what amazes me, he was supposedly this great CO. But when you look at the communities he was suppose to organize they still seem to be the same pieces of **it they were when he got there.

Of course they are, the sole goal of CO is to organize voting blocks (power)by appealing to the people through "narrative". Most people do in fact fall for empty promises and lies as long as you speak their "language". Listen carefully to any Democrat speak they use carefully chosen buzz words, the most recent example is Michelle Obama...

My only concern now is how she’ll do against Biden at the debates.

She will do just fine...

“So, an inexperienced man at the top of the ticket is just fine, but an inexperienced woman as VP is risky and dangerous?”

The first half of your sentence is wrong.

The SECOND half of your sentence is right.

For EXACTLY the same reasons.

For what it’s worth, you have just succintly stated why (in my opinion, and yes, I realize I’m the grinch and troglodyte here) Ms. Palin is a dubious choice.

She is as inexperienced as is Obama. And no, that is NOT a good thing.

This is a precursor to disaster in the difficult years we face ahead. Years that may bring more war. And, considering Mr. McCain’s age and history of health problems, a future that may witness a VP forced into the president’s chair by circumstances.

As I said, I guess I’m the troglodyte and misanthrope here. But I don’t see this as a time “for show”. Let’s get real.

And yes, I will vote for Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin.
But I’ll be praying that he survives his entire term.

- John

Palin can also be used to hammer the heck out of the RATS in Congress for their lack of an energy policy. She could provide the coattails for a massive change in the Congress.

She’s pro-life and pro-gun but she also just orchestrated a major socialist money give away ($1200 of government money per person to defray the cost of oil, over and above Alaska’s $2000 per person give away through the Permanent Fund) that was signed into law only a couple of weeks ago. And it’s being paid for (plus a lot more) by the largest tax increase by orders of magnitude on Alaska’s oil and gas industry in Alaska history — enacted in a legislative special session she called.

She may be a very attractive candidate but she’s no conservative.

“I was planning on voting for Barr. But now I’m gonna vote McCain. The problem is that I live in IL, so my vote doesn’t count”

Dont fall for that Red State Blue State stuff. Look back at the Reagan politcal maps. This could very much be setting itself up for another Reagan like landslide. I am in the same boat you are living in Washington, and I can tell you I am more exited than ever to get involved.
