Dems say Palin is 'risky,' could be a disaster
CNN ^ | August 29, 2008 | Alexander Mooney

Posted on 08/29/2008 1:43:04 PM PDT by Zakeet

A leading House Democrat said Friday John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is a "risky" move that could ultimately prove disastrous to the Republican prospects in November.

Meanwhile, a top Senate Democrat said the pick is a "Hail Mary pass" and a "roll of the dice," in what is the initial reactions from McCain's rival party.

Speaking to South Carolina ETV Radio, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn likened the choice of Palin to Walter Mondale's choice of Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 and George H.W. Bush's pick of Dan Quayle in 1988. Both picks — relatively unknown political figures at the time — generated initial excitement but were ultimately deemed poor choices by many political observers.

"I think (her selection) would be something similar to Dan Quayle — Dan Quayle proved to be sort of an embarrassment as a campaigner, being thrust on a national stage like that could be very tough," Clyburn said. "Now Mondale tried to shake things up by going with Geraldine Ferraro, she proved to be a disaster as a running mate. And as a campaigner, she was absolutely awful."

"And so I just think that it is very risky for McCain to do this, but it may be all he has left," Clyburn also said.

In an issued statement, Sen. Chuck Schumer said Palin is significantly mismatched to Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden and said the prospect of her becoming president is "troubling."

Why should CNN care if the Republicans are in trouble?

MSM trying to sow the seeds of discontent, LOL will backfire.

Beautiful woman both physically and spiritually, good on McCain for this choice.

MSM are irrelevant this cycle, although still trying to shape election.
I say good riddance to bad trash(MSM),

I'm touched by their concern. I mean, they have the Republicans' best interests at heart, right?

I'm watching my Dem buddies have a collective spittle-throwing fit at the moment. "How dare McCain upstage the Messiah? Who is this upstart? A...a...woman? The Republicans hate women! We own that demographic!"

I can't wait for the first debate, when she walks out there and looks Biden in the eye and says "you want change? This is change!"

I agree with the others - Obama looks at a 10-point deficit this time next month and Joe's going to have a sudden medical problem. And you know what else? The Dems were looking forward to mocking a lackluster, boring, whitebread Republican convention next week. All of a sudden here's the passion, baby. Deal with it.

Of course the Dems are going to say that. You don’t expect that they are going to say “Holy crap, that was an awesome pick. We sure are screwed now!”

Troubling to Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer, who might have to get real jobs someday.

I wonder why CNN didn't mention that the "top Senate Democrat" was Chuck Schumer. Why be so coy about it?

They knew Obama made a huge mistake in not picking Hillary and now they’re horrified to find that they’re facing a team that is smart enough to take advantage and capitalize off of their mistakes.

I am just so amazed Dems would bring up the “experience” thing with Palin!

Their POTUS Candidate is the least qualified of any of the present candidates, as well as the larger field of all primary candidates.

Talk about something that will blow up in their face!

Hail Mary? No, just a perfectly thrown 30-yard pass to a receiver who was wide open due to a completely blown defensive coverage.

Isn’t it amazing they actually get paid to do this? What useless losers -— I would not recommend buying ANY MSM stocks....(LOL!)

Not buy stocks? Are you kidding? At this rate, that's the least of their worries. They need to find an Olbermann-sized straightjacket and put him in it before he puts a .357 magnum in his mouth.

Every major journalist in the MSM will be on suicide watch within the next 30 days. Those that make it that far, anyway...

The next President of the United States of America will be a Republican. Look ye journalists upon thy future and despair! :-)
