Pro-family advocates and Republicans are saying presumptive GOP nominee for president Sen. John McCain may have checkmated Democrat Sen. Barack Obama with his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate.

She's a woman, young, has been governor of Alaska for about two years, is pro-life and doesn't believe homosexuals should be granted the special privilege of "marriage" rights, is a mother, has a son in the U.S. military and wants to expand America's energy production.

"Absolutely brilliant," said Mathew Staver, chief of Liberty Counsel, the Liberty Alliance Action and dean of the Liberty University school of law.

"The excitement was palpable among conservative leaders when they heard that Gov. Palin was Sen. McCain's choice for vice president. There is a high level of optimism among conservative leaders that the McCain-Palin combination is a ticket that will connect with values voters," he said.

I just heard early this morning here in Edinburgh Scotland (I'm here on business) after getting in from a pub out with some local friends about the wonderfully surprising or as the article quoted one man "Absolutely brillant!". A local here couldn't have said it better. I've been on business and luckily didn't have to sit through hours of sickening re-runs of the Obama convention as the endless stream of the most radical liberals in the nation endorsed the man who is only topped in the Senate as the most liberal by Dick Durbin who is best known for calling our troops nazi's.

John McCain has proven himself with this pick. The mistrust of him should be gone. He has a conservative voting record, a record of selflessness in service of his country and alligiance to his fellow service members, and he now has a beautiful, intelligent, conservative running mate who anyone could easily see as the first women Vice President of the United states.

She exemplies the strong qualities of this nation and the strengths of a woman as a mother, a professional, and a leader. We very well may have our own budding Margret Thatcher and that is something to be excited about.

I was also thinking about John McCain and his story. His crash in Vietnam and his ordeal in the POW camp was not his first brush with death. He is not a perfect man but I look to the bible to see the kinds of men that are lifted up and our chosen and I see in McCain that kind of man. How lucky we are to have someone who dares to speak his mind regardless of whether what he says is popular or not. How lucky we are to have a hero who was priveleged but chose not to leverage that privelege when it came to escaping early from a prisoner of war camp. John McCain is an uncommon man. He has made mistakes but I think those who have refused to give him any quarter owe him their support now. He made a perfect choice for VP. He has shown judgement where political expediancy would've been easy.

John McCain has proven himself a man of character, a man of his word, and a man who not only served his country but loves it and wants to see it remain strong. We know that on the otherside those things are not the case. We know because of what they say and how they react to our soldiers, our interests, and how they wish to remake this country. They see America as flawed not because of lack of courage but because of lack of submissivness. They see America as flawed not because of blurring of national identity but because it is too patriotic. They see America as flawed not because of broken distorted families but because America dares desire that families not be broken. There is a basic difference of priorities and there is no doubt which set of priorities is the correct one for America.

Now let's get out there and get McCain and our other conservative Senate and House candidates elected!

My Mom was a Hillary supporter. She was shocked at Palin’s selection, and then started reading about her and watching her, and now she’s voting for McCain! My wife has been indifferent, and now she’s settled on McCain/Palin also. It’s over.

My lib colleague at the U. (any other kind) squealed with surprise (though not delight) and said that it was a brilliant choice and that it would cut into Obama’s woman support.

More anecdotal evidence, I know two Obama supporters who are now going to vote for McCain because of Palin.

My wife had reservations about McCain, but she loves Palin. In her own words, “she's everything I want to be” (referring to her character and success not her selection as VP). Now she is enthusiastic about voting McCain/Palin.

I would caution people to lay off the glib “chick” talk. The women don’t seem to care for this. Courtesy of the wife ... LOL.

That said, my wife has an elderly aunt in NH, she and all her elderly friends, were backing Hillary. Yeah I know, they were supposed Rs. Now all but one of the dozen say they are voting for Palin, err, make that McCain — They want to see a woman in the oval office in their lifetimes. Even if it’s only the VP.

It’s really weird what a difference a day can make — And the right Conservative decision.

Does “Help us make history, vote McCain” work for you?

Make that three, my sister-in-law who was a Hillary backer is now firmly for McCain.

It was a very smart choice for McCain. He chose a classy strong lady. Obama is going to have a hard time keeping women on his ticket. Palin is a woman all women can be proud of. Biden is...hmmm well geesh I just get a sinking feeling when I think of him. McCain also has an advantage in that the public impression is that the media is unfairly trying to make sure Obama wins with an extraordinary level of coverage and like the good media they just keep on giving him more of it thinking that people just haven’t seen enough.

I’m telling you if liberals were as smart as they think have convinced themselves they are they’d really be dangerous.

Two of my aunts in Central Pennsylvania were strongly for Hillary!.

When she lost, they said they would vote for McCain.

After the RAT convention, they were excited about Obama.

Now, Palin has them saying they will definitely vote for McCain again.

I guess maybe they are the ultimate "swing voters". Rasmussen would love them.

**”The excitement was palpable among conservative leaders when they heard that Gov. Palin was Sen. McCain’s choice for vice president.**

I was so excited yesterday that I thought about it as I went about my other things. Kept a big smile on my face.

Time to donate to the RNC. Donations to McCain have to be used up by August 31st!

Brilliant move the RNC.

It not only pleases Conservatives such as us, but it also puts the Democrats in an impossible position.

Here are my new tag lines, soon to be bumper stickers.

Palin = Checkmate

Palin 2012

Palin, the Antibama.

It’s over.

I agree. I haven't been so excited about a political event since Bush won in 2000.

This is fantastic. All the Democrats can do not is shut up. Anything they say about Palin will work against them.
