Let Palin Be Palin: Why the left is scared to death of McCain's running mate
Weekly Standard ^ | 9/8/2008 | William Kristol

Posted on 8/30/2008, 5:05:34 PM by mojito

A spectre is haunting the liberal elites of New York and Washington--the spectre of a young, attractive, unapologetic conservatism, rising out of the American countryside, free of the taint (fair or unfair) of the Bush administration and the recent Republican Congress, able to invigorate a McCain administration and to govern beyond it.

That spectre has a name--Sarah Palin, the 44-year-old governor of Alaska chosen by John McCain on Friday to be his running mate. There she is: a working woman who's a proud wife and mother; a traditionalist in important matters who's broken through all kinds of barriers; a reformer who's a Republican; a challenger of a corrupt good-old-boy establishment who's a conservative; a successful woman whose life is unapologetically grounded in religious belief; a lady who's a leader.

So what we will see in the next days and weeks--what we have already seen in the hours after her nomination--is an effort by all the powers of the old liberalism, both in the Democratic party and the mainstream media, to exorcise this spectre. They will ridicule her and patronize her. They will distort her words and caricature her biography. They will appeal, sometimes explicitly, to anti-small town and anti-religious prejudice. All of this will be in the cause of trying to prevent the American people from arriving at their own judgment of Sarah Palin.

That's why Palin's spectacular performance in her introduction in Dayton was so important. Her remarks were cogent and compelling. Her presentation of herself was shrewd and savvy.

The foaming-mouthed liberals of outworn leftism and their running dog lackeys in the MSM cower in fear and lash out with cliche.

Sarah Palin scares these people. Ain't it grand?

This Lady is impressive; I can now pull the lever for our Republican Nominee that walks like a Democrat. I had been planning to write in Newt on Nov, 4, unless the guy that has stabbed me in the back so many times with his crappy (McCain/Kennedy immigration reform) and sometimes unconstitutional legislation (McCain/Feingold - campaign finance reform) made a smart VP pick - he has.

McCain doesn’t want me to have any ANWR oil for my 100 mile per day commute, Maybe Governor Palin can beat some sense into McCain.

Every time the Republicans run as CONSERVATIVES, they win. This VP candidate has the Marxist-left (Obama campaign) doing backflips. The arrogant, myopic radicals that now dominate the DemoRAT party, were so easily checkmated by McCain and their own stupidity.

First they never should have put a nobody, empty, college-campus-communist up as a candidate for the Presidency. Huge mistake. Second, they did trash, through racism versus sexism, Hillary who could have probably done better in many ways — and without the Stalinist attacks to intimidate the First Amendement rights of media and individuals — ANOTHER HUGE MISTAKE.

The radical left is dying in America and thank God that is the case. America is NOT a socialist nation — it remains a right-to-centrist general base of mostly patriotic Americans that are sensitive to American heritage, our Constitution and their individual freedoms. All things that the radical left wants to crush out of existence.

It just is not going to work. God Bless America.

Kristol quoting Baker's past punditry: "putting Sarah Palin into a debate with Joe Biden is going to be like throwing Howdy Doody into a knife fight"

Yep, gotta feel real sorry for poor ol' Joe.

The outright anger, the furrowed, knitted brows, the angst, among the liberal talking heads over this Palin thing is hilarious to watch. If Mac has made a fatal blunder, they should be glad. They are anything but. I always say: "glad, mad, or sad; and two of 'em are bad". The dimowits are stuck with the two bad, I guess. It's sure fun to watch.

No kidding. Their fear is palpable. Some of the stuff they are saying reflects sheer panic.

My first political donation in 8 years went out this morning to McCain/Palin. I have never been so proud to send a check.

The democrats and the MSM will follow the same dogma that they have followed for the last 50 years.

There said it in one sentence.

>Maybe Governor Palin can beat some sense into McCain.<

I was really hoping his VP pick would have that kind of potential.

This is one of the most brilliant political moves the GOP has made in this century. The Democrats have much to fear.

Their attacks on her will only draw much unwanted attention to who she really is. And, the American public admire and have great respect for who ans what Sara Palin really is. It will become painfully obvious to the Socialist/Liberals.

More importantly, they will have brought on all the attention to her by their own stupidity. A shining star that nobody saw coming has suddenly been revealed and all eyes are upon her in record numbers; their greatest fear which they cannot control or manipulate.

I watched the first few minutes of Anderson Cooper’s show late last night [rebroadcast] and Paul Begala was so upset, he was actually shaking. The venom and spittle flying from his lips was quite the spectacle. I could actally smell the fear through my television screen.

Heehee.

Question:

I just read on RealClearPolitics that “The Nation” claims that Palin supported Buchanan in the 1990s. If true, will this negatively affect support for her? Just wondering.

I donated to Fred Thompson, but swore that McCain wasn’t going to get a penny from me, and that I’d grudgingly vote AGAINST Obama, but bathe in Lysol after the fact.

I donated this morning, and I will be skipping to the polls, singing “Sarah Smile” all the way.

So far this choice has revived America, now to see the global ripples of what Iran, Syria, Russia and China think of the possibility of Sarah Palin as President and her barracuda like manner of attacking the opposition.

There is a picture of her with Pat, and she is wearing a button. She was the mayor of the city where he came to visit - she has said that did not mean she supported him, just that she would welcome any candidates who wanted to come to her city.

The Libs are all wringing their hands that this so called “inexperienced” woman is a heartbeat away from the presidency. Actually, I wouldn't mind this time tested moral conservative woman with executive experience running the country, hand in hand with an experienced cabinet of advisors.

But what about Biden, should something happen to Obama, would even liberals want Biden running this country?

15 years ago I supported, generally, Pat Buchanan.

But like almost all conservatives, I have washed my hands of him. He’s too fond of NAzi’s for me, among his many other faults.
