As most people know, and nearly all parents know, the Internet can be a dangerous place for children. Usually, people look outwards, at society, to fix the problem. This mother, however, took things into her own hands and looked straight at her daughter.
I am Sam, Sam I am.
I like MySpace so I can
Talk to friends and act real cool
Pretend that I am at the pool
Playing on the Internet
Showing boys what they can't get.
I am Sam, Sam I am
I like MySpace so I can
Check it twenty times a day
Check it to see what you say
In a car
On a plane
In a house
or on a train
I like MySpace for how it feels
To be all grown up and wear high heels!
Act like I don't have a mom
Who tries to teach me right from wrong.
Act like I don't have a dad
Who gives me everything I have.
I am Sam - Sam I am.
If its not all about Sam
Then I don't really give a damn.
I think of me and only me
I don't care if you disagree
Work for what I want in life?
Learn to be a "little wife"?
No way! I say! That's not for me!
I want only to be waited on hand and knee
I expect the world to stop and stare
To worship me and my pretty hair.
I am Sam, Sam I am.
Lucky my parents give a damn.
They take the time to show me how
To prepare for life and to start now.
By taking care of myself
By minding things like my health
By doing chores
It's such a bore
I always try to ignore
The encouraging comments that they make
I just want my Mom to bake a cake!
To be like other moms not dads
To stop moving us it makes me sad.
I blame her for my sorry state
But blame, it seems, sits on my plate saying
I am Sam, Sam I am
One day you will understand.....
with Love,
Mom
Dear Samantha's Friends,
This is her mom Tracey, writing to you to tell you that Samantha will no longer be allowed to use MySpace or the computer for a long, long time. If you are wondering, take a moment to read her comments about me and her father and let her teach you something about what happens when you dishonor your family.
I have to say honestly that I never wanted Sam to go on MySpace, but she was so adamant about being responsible online. I made her enter into a binding contract—that's right, a written agreement—that she would act responsibly when on MySpace and not swear or post inappropriate pictures or material of any kind. As you can clearly see, she not only broke her word, but she dishonored both her parents.
I hope that you use this as a cautionary tale and learn the lesson Samantha is so opposed to learning: be responsible in all you do and say and good things will happen to you. Be the opposite, and . . . well, you can figure out the rest.
bttt
Ah, a good parent who loves her child enough to show her the right way.
Does anyone have a link to the actual myspace page? Or has it been taken down?
mom ping
I made my kids add me to their friend’s list on Facebook.
So great. Parents have to be as vigilant with their children on the internet. Luckly enough, I still have a backdoor into my brothers myspace if he actually does something really bad. (Parents wouldn’t have a clue how to)
Good idea!
I’m sure that makes your folks very happy.
My daughter was SO excited when I showed up on her friends list. I like that.
MM
I hope so. They’ve earned a little happiness.
This is a direct result of a Society that takes away parental rights. They will usher your child into an abortion clinic, under an assumed name (to protect her-of course), that will not allow you, the parent, to make life or death decisions, let alone educational, or social decisions.
A society that allows, even encourages, children to be taught about and by some of the most perverse creatures ever to walk the earth, and teach them that’s it’s “normal” and if they feel otherwise, they have a mental problem, and then outcast them from the school hierarchy of coolness.
A society that doesn’t want God in school, so afraid are they that they have to look at their sins on a daily basis.
Oh, yeah, Sam I am!
Gov. Plain, when questioned at an Eagle Forum said about sex ed...
“Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support!”
THIS is the type of leadership we need in this Country again. This is only one, of many, reasons why I support her and will vote for McCain/Palin.
It is the collectivist impulse of the left that drives the state to arrogate more and more rights over children, at the expense of parental rights. The left must be defeated in order to defeat the growing uber-state.
It should be a requirement that kids be taught Newton’s Third Law from birth, and reinforced every month! LOL
Yes, and it starts locally.
My kid’s in grad school, and he’s had a facebook for years. I got a facebook a few months ago to help connect with people who were planning our college reunion.
Anyhoo, the other day I had a friend request and it was from my son...turns out he invited his aunts as well. I was surprised, but I guess that means he’s finally reached the stage where having your parent as your friend is okay.
I would prefer they learn the 5th commandment:
Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
That goes without saying, in my book.
But, once they learn Newtons’ Third, they will voluntarily learn ALL the Commandments and live by them! LOL
