'Environmental volunteers' will be encouraged to spy on their neighbours[UK]

Councils are recruiting residents to report anyone who drops litter, fails to recycle their rubbish properly, or who allows their dog to foul the streets.

Advertisements looking for people to sign up for the unpaid "environmental volunteer" jobs have been posted across the country in recent months.

Critics said the scheme is encouraging a Big Brother society where friends and neighbours will be encouraged to "snoop" on one another.

The recruitment drive follows news that the Home Office is granting police powers to council staff and private security guards, allowing then to hand out fines for low-scale offences and ask for personal details.

Matthew Elliott, of the Taxpayers' Alliance, said: "Snooping on your neighbours to report recycling infringements sounds like something straight out of the East German Stasi's copybook.

"With council tax so high, the last thing people want to pay for is an army of busybodies peering through their net curtains at their neighbours as they put out their rubbish."

Eastleigh council, in Hampshire, has said it wants residents to "monitor local environmental quality" to combat issues involving recycling and waste.

The local authority has already employed about a dozen people who answered an advert in a council newsletter which said: "Volunteers will be involved in reporting issues in their area such as recycling, waste, fly-tipping, graffiti, dog fouling and abandoned vehicles".

And the borough of Tower Hamlets, in east London, is advertising for similar roles within its environmental department, while other councils are expected to follow suit.

The volunteers are not asked directly to spy on neighbours, but they are encouraged not to ignore tip-offs.

A spokesman for Tower Hamlets said: "These are all people who care about the environment and they will be ambassadors for their area.

You think this is shocking? This is going on in WA State, right now. As a matter of fact, it goes farther than encourage, they are offering training in how to spot violations. They are training their own teams of brown shirts to drive around the county and report farms with animals too close to ditches, septic systems that might not be up to code and any other code violations that might bring a hefty fine. Then they will use the money to hire more inspectors to go out and check for the same thing.

So basically the socialist government is trying to turn people against each other in a manner that may well cause fight fueds etc.
When they can not pay enough police to be responding to serious crimes around the Country. Sounds like a real good plan............

Am I the only one who remembers the Hitler Youth who, among other ugly things, spied on their parents and relatives to report political “crimes?” Stalin’s young Pioneers served the same purpose. The so-called Green movement is pure totalitarianism.

They should be trained to report folks who wear rags on their heads and preach the killing of “infidels.”

I dislike this idea intensely, but they British are already conditioned for this kind of busybodism. That said, I would skip the trash snooping detail, but the dog crap reporting is definitely worth a thought. Having a large breed myself, I hate slob owners that don’t clean up after their mutts. If it were up to me, I’d have the snoopers bag it, turn it over to authorities who’d then deliver it to the responsible owners. Further violations would allow free game flinging of excrement at the guilty parties homes.

“You think this is shocking?”

Sounds like (another) job for BO’s volunteer corps. His pitiful socialistic dreams will end up using the same ACLU pay-and-play methods to fund local activism by under-employed malcontents. And if the demo party has it’s way with the “Fairness Doctrine”, you won’t even be able to ascertain the extent of the intrusions into your personal freedoms until some stooge knocks on your door with a citation for doggie poop on your lawn. Won’t matter that you don’t own a dog – you must be an enabler.

People do not realize that the democrat party modus operendi is to confiscate your earned dollars and reapply them for their purposes. The marxist/socialistic philosophies allude to this but the on-the-ground application is specific to any given existing political/social system. In our present national system, taxation policy as legislatively defined at the federal, state, and local levels. Voters have some control over this methodology via voter choice. But a secondary method of wealth redistribution is to lodge lawsuits against “deep pockets” like corporations, insurance companies, and private individuals. These defendants must make the purely economic decision that settlement is preferable to further litigation. This technique, as used by the ACLU and many trial lawyers, generates operating funds that can be applied to expansion of the practice.

The average, hardworking individuals in this country realize that oppressive taxation and/or legal extortion are unfair. But when it happens to some poor sucker, he/she, not versed in either the political or legal system, is likely to feel very isolated. Fact is there are resources out there to fight against both scenarios but you have to be able to tap into them. The Fairness Doctrine, which mandates equal time be given to secondary viewpoints in opposition to a primary viewpoint, effectively will destroy your access to unbiased information. Witness the current filings by the Obama campaign to mute private investigations of the Anneneberg papers and basic citizenship certification efforts of the false messiah himself.

As these concepts evolve, your personal liberties erode.
Always critically evaluate what you hear and what you’re told.
Be proactive in communications with your government representatives. And if they are non-responsive, consider supporting their opponent in the next election provided the alternative is better than the existing.
Talk up current events and local/state/national/world news to your friends and associates. This is not preaching, this is conversation. If you can stick to the facts and provide information that your friends did not know before, you won’t be viewed as partisan but rather, intelligent and well informed.

Sorry for burying your server with this reply. But infringement of personal freedom and the demise of personal responsibility just riles my butt.

You get ready for this by fighting back now and on every front. Dont’t let the mold grow. Throw out the bad bread.

#1: When you pay the fine, make sure that you exact ten times the fine amount in "other ways".

#2: Start an Internet site on the brown shirts.

Within a few years, they will be limiting emigration of the producers,

The "ex-pat tax" was enacted back in the 90s. You can leave, you can renounce your U.S. citizenship, but you're fully on the hook for federal taxes for 7 years after.
