Here is Alan Colmes in his own words, or his fans' own words, or other people's words... He's still digging.
The post about Sarah Palins pre-natal care was taken down because of the vile comments made by a pletehora of conservatives who decided to invade the site and show us just how decent and value-driven some of them are. Nothing like epithet-hurling if you want to make your point, or if you have strong objections to what someone says or does. Furthermore, I in no way mean to suggest that her childs Down Syndrome was in any way related to decisions she made. In fact I never mentioned Down Syndrome in the post. However, I apologize that my post was not more clear on that point. That is my fault, and Ill take responsibility for not being more clear on that point. That being said
Jaru summed it up on a previous thread.
Conservative hate was re-routed via conservative blogs!
Anyway, I love how everyone keeps trying to accuse Alan of accusing Princess Mooseburger of birthing a mentally retarded child on purpose.
He asked a judgement question about a 7 month pregnant woman who just had her water break GET ON A 12 HOUR FLIGHT TO GIVE BIRTH after giving a 30 MINUTE SPEECH instead of doing the SENSIBLE THING AND STAYING PUT WITH A DOCTOR.
The idea that you cant question Sarah Palins judgment because she has a Down Syndrome baby is right up there with the outrage some feel the minute you question a man who was held in a prison camp for five years. Yet, the same outraged protectors of our values have no trouble questioning Obamas judgment: a nodding acquaintance with someone in his neighborhood, his choice of a church, his very faith, and then they blamed that on the Clintons). The question was even raised as to whether he is hiding the truth of his birth certificate. In fact, hotair.com, the the site most outraged about what I posted, was one of the prime venues of the birth certificate debate, among others concerning Obamas judgment. And lets not forget the attacks on Michelle Obama and the insinuations that she doesnt really love her country.
For the record, I think the McCain choice of Palin was caculatingly smart, in that it guarantees that a glass ceiling be broken after the coming election. Im sure Sarah Palin is a fine person who is just very wrong on the issues and, like all of us, hasnt always shown perfect judgment. But dont tell me that John McCain chose the best person for the job, or that he didnt make this choice reactively, because Hillary Clinton is not on the Democratic ticket.
For the record, here is the link to Rogers Cadenheads post on the issue of judgment.
Maybe Palins actions can be written off as Alaskan grit, since shes a macho hunting governor who jogs in freezing temperatures and dines on moose burgers. But as a parent myself, I think the Palins were extremely fortunate that their reckless stupidity did not end in tragedy. As middle-aged parents who already had four kids, the Palins had to be completely familiar with all the things that can go wrong in a pregnancy. One commenter on the Washington Times laid out the enormous risk she was taking:
Airlines are unequipped to handle most emergencies at 30,000 feet, particularly the kind Palin put her unborn child at markedly increased risk for. These emergencies include birthing a premature infant or uncontrolled maternal bleeding. This was her FIFTH pregnancy and delivery can happen rapidly and unexpectedly. The baby or Palin could easily have died.
The Anchorage Daily News gave the chronology of events the day Palin was in Dallas giving a speech where she began contractions, and water broke. It quotes Dr. Laurie Gregg, a Sacramnto obstetrician:
[Dr. Laurie Gregg] who is active in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said when a pregnant womans water breaks, she should go right to the hospital because of the risk of infection. Thats true even if the amniotic fluid simply leaks out To us, leaking and broken, we are talking the same thing. We are talking doctor-speak, Gregg said.
Down Syndrome is another matter, and can sometimes be related to a mothers age. This is a risk that older parents take, and one the Palins took consciously, and not irresponsibly.
Because of prenatal testing, most families now know beforehand, said Judy Waldron, president of the Alaska chapter of the National Down Syndrome Congress, a support and education group that delivered a parent packet to the Palins in the hospital.
They anticipate it and they kind of relish the challenge of having a child with special needs, said Waldron, an Anchorage teacher whose 19-year-old daughter, Lyn, has Down syndrome.
If we are going to evaluate candidates based on life decisions: what churches they attend, what religions they practice, who their preachers are, who their friends are, all of which fall under the rubrick of judgment, then all of this is fair game. That argument cuts many ways so, to quote my least favorite president, Bring it on.
He may also have been born a little early. It’s not any of our business anyway. Colmes should be ashamed of himself to bring that up. I was born almost exactly nine months after my Norwegian immigrant parents married. Good thing I wasn’t a bit early...
My mom had cancer, not alzheimers, but I went to live with her for several months until she passed away. I don’t regret one second of it. She was worth it.
Amazing at what lengths people will go to smear others.
Why do you think hospitals are podunk in AK just because it’s AK? Anchorage is a very modern city. Wasilla’s not too far from there.
His wife is Jocelyn Crowley. Her name is a dot com, and her picture is within.
There are a lot of places you can be in Alaska where you won’t be in Anchorage.
Yes, I know. All of my sons have lived there, one has been in Anchorage for probably 17 years now. All his children and one other grandchild born to another son were born in Anchorage. Wasilla’s not that far away from Anchorage either. I’m sure health care in most decent sized places is pretty good. There are also native Alaskan hospitals there in various places. Thing is, I’m sure she wasn’t putting herself or her baby in any danger.
Thanks for that. She’s as hot as her sister! Amazing she got as far in life as she has, what, with such poor eyesight and low expectations.
these people have no brains, either
LOL
I know exactly the Indian you mean as I was there just a couple of weeks ago
Beautiful place as is the rest of the smokey mountians
Hannity will do nothing as he is friends with him, same as why Hannity never mentions anything about homosexual marriage or those freak shows because he probably has homosexual friends.
Boy as Fox gone down lately, from the drama queen geraldo and shelherd smith to the brainless kilmeade to the dumb and clueless alyson from fox and friends to now this
FOX needs a big shake up they can’t even mention much about the Fowler incident though to be fair I think they are the only channel who has said anything
So I guess the question is, where was she in Alaska when she first decided it was time for the baby, and where did she have the baby?
And the answer is, she was in Dallas, not Alaska. And she flew back to Alaska, where her doctor was, and where they had prepared for her delivery.
This isn’t really about Alaska being backwards (unless Colmes was trying to insinuate that Palin should have stayed in Dallas because they have better hospitals than Alaska).
About Alan Colmes and his insanity: He is supposedly all for choice. In fact, choice trumps all. She could have had a late term abortion and Alan could have cared less - according to his religion he would have celebrated her choice. It’s her body - her choice. EXCEPT if she decided she wanted to have the baby at home in Alaska. Now she is a bad mother. Now she has bad judgment. Now she exercised bad choice.
Alan can’t have it both ways: Either the mother is godlike and can decide if a child lives or dies, or she isn’t. Alan is one messed up individual. He can’t complain about her putting the life of the child in jeopardy, because he is willing to hand over to women the right to END the life of the child. Why is Alan in such a tizzy about her water breaking - he supports sucking the brains out of Downs Syndrome babies and throwing the bodies away!
Sickness disguised as compassion.
I read a comment from Palin stating that she had had 4 babies and knew she wasn’t in labor. As it was, the doctors even had to induce labor. She knew what she was doing.
Colmes can sit and make up all the explanations he wants..fact of the matter is..He..like other liberals are now trying to do is to make an issue of Palin running as the VP candidate when she has a child with a developmental disability.
Its shameful and disgusting and they NEED to be called out on it...on the other hand..actions such as this will only inflame Republicans and those who were on the fence about McCain.
I also would hope that Fox would suspend Colmes for making such insensitive and disgusting charges..
The attacks were valid. On two separate occasions she made the " the first time I was proud of my country" comments - and those comments were fair game. I wonder if Alan Colmes noticed her convention speech dealt with the subject. The speech was about how much and why she loved her county.
It was a great speech.
She knew the impression her original comments gave - and she corrected it.
I hadn’t seen this latest gutter attack on Palin. Disgusting.
These people just have no bottom they will not hesitate to stoop to.
I will send more money to McCain as a result.
They’re both well-paid. Given that Hannity actually believes and can intellectually, morally and philosophically support what he says makes that irrelevant.
So, what’s Skeletor’s excuse?
Still, I’m now watching to see what happens with that artery in his neck. Not burst, mind you, just keep bullllllging.
If they want to talk bad judgment calls. Let’s just talk about Obama’s record on his bad judgment. He has made more bad judgment calls than he has made good ones, and they always seem to be on bad people who he has been involved with. Wright, Ayers, Farrakkan, Biden, Rezko, are a few that come to mind. They prove Obama’s very poor judgment, but of course, since it was Obama, it’s OK because he’s the media darling.
