Sarah Palin and Motherhood September 2, 2008 on 1:35 pm | In Children, Election, Sarah Palin, Working Women Email This Post Email This Post

I am extremely disappointed in the choice of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Republican Party. I will still vote for Senator McCain, because I am very concerned about having a fundamental leftist, especially one who is a marvelous orator, as President.

......

I’m stunned - couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didn’t want a “mature” woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?

I am haunted by the family pictures of the Palins during political photo-ops, showing the eldest daughter, now pregnant with her own child, cuddling the family’s newborn. When Mom and Dad both work full-time (no matter how many folks get involved with the children), it becomes a somewhat chaotic situation. Certainly, if a child becomes ill and is rushed to the hospital, and you’re on the hotline with both Israel and Iran as nuclear tempers are flaring, where’s your attention going to be? Where should your attention be? Well, once you put your hand on the Bible and make that oath, your attention has to be with the government of the United States of America.

I think Laura missed the whole point. And I don’t really care if she’s disappointed in the choice of Palin.

Truth is, Palin is exactly what the GOP needs at this point — she’s congruent, she’s young and energetic and she has the courage of her convictions.

Here's my reply to Dr. Laura:

Dear Laura,

I've been a huge fan of yours for years. My wife has several of your books and I have always appreciated your opinion.

I knew you'd be coming out with a statement like this about Sarah Palin and to be honest, I can't blame you. Her nomination flies in the face of much of what you've been counseling for years. For you to say anything else would be hypocritical.

That said, I think you need to reassess this situation. This is not a case of a married woman working as a secretary and putting her kid in daycare. This is an unbelievably talented woman whom has been given an unheardof opportunity to change an election and thereby change America and indeed change history.

You lament that McCain couldn't find another woman to run with him. Well, having heard some of the possibilities (Kay Baily Hutchinson, Carly Fiorina), the common thread for them was a shaky position on abortion. For me, as a social conservative, either of those women would have been a supremely disappointing pick. Sarah Palin, by contrast, is an inspired pick.

For those of us who care about the fate of the unborn who are slaughtered in their millions each year, an Obama presidency is unthinkable. Obama would put a liberal lock on the Court that would take generations to undo. The time to flip the Supreme Court on this issue is NOW. And I believe that by picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made what was a fading hope to end judicial tyranny over abortion into a real possibility.

The fact of the matter is, there are times when commitment to country trumps even commitment to family. Like during a time of war, for instance.

I consider Sarah Palin to be an extraordinarily talented woman who has arrived on the scene at the exact right moment. For her to turn away from this moment would have been to deny her an opportunity to change our country for the better.

Frankly, I wouldn't blame her or admire her any less if she had turned down the offer citing family reasons. But I'm thankful she didn't.

America needs her right now.

Finally, as a long time fan, I will say this to you--if you take this bashing of Sarah Palin to the major media and carry their water for them to enhance your own career, I will never forgive you. Nor will I ever defend you again against unfair attacks for you will have shown yourself to be everything your critics said you were.

May God watch over and bless you,

etc.

Unbelievable. Anything to justify your party's candidate, eh?

Do you disagree? Please explain.

I thought Dr. Laura had her husband watching the kids while she did her radio show each day.

So it seems she should understand that other people can care for children from time to time.

I’m betting that if one of the Bush children was in the hospital, he’d find a way to be by their side while still getting the job done.

Well just listen to yourself, Antonius: There are times when commitment to country trumps even commitment to family??!

What sort of “times” are you talking about, that demand a mother sacrifice the well-being of her children?

Any man worthy of the name will take a bullet for his wife or his children, or go off to war in their defense. That’s his duty.

But who would ask a wife and mother to put her country before her family? And what sort of woman would say “Yes”?!

Sheesh, FReepers seem to be losing our minds, exchanging our principles for partisan power.

A patriot.

Not that you would know anything about that.

I believe that Barack Obama may be the most dangerous person ever to run for the office of the presidency. At the very least, an Obama presidency will result in the further perversion of our court system--he will appoint radicals at every level because he is a radical.

He needs to be defeated.

If Sarah Palin on the ticket is what it takes to do that, then I'm all for it.

Find it stunning that Dr. Laura and so many other do-gooders are interjecting themselves into the Palin marriage/family.

Do a biblical word study/research on the word “busy body” and find yourselves a hobby.

Do you know how embarrassing it is? We men ought to be too ashamed to hold our heads up in public.

In my opinion, Dr. L is dead wrong on this one.

Sarah Palin did not seek this position, she was Called.
And that capital letter is on purpose.

Given this, Dr. L, in my opinion, is questioning God’s plan.

That family will be just fine. God has never called someone to service without providing for and equipping them for the job.

Just pray for them.

My conclusion that Palin was Called to this task is based on the vehemence of the attacks from the forces of evil - unprecedented.

LOL. Patriotism = fascism to you, eh?

Thanks for showing your true colors. I'd ask the Mods to zot you but you're so stupid that it might be worth keeping you around a bit so others can have the pleasure of making intellectual mincemeat out of you.

fascist?

PlainFool, you have invoked Godwin’s Law.

Fascism is collectivism FORCED on people through the power of government.

So, how does that apply to someone who is putting their country first, who has received a Calling to do so, and will be equipped and provided for in the task by God?
