US women voters turned off by Palin's pick: poll
ST PAUL, Minnesota (AFP) Women voters remain unswayed by the Republican choice of anti-abortion, devout Christian Sarah Palin for vice president, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
White House hopeful John McCain electrified his party's conservative base by naming Palin, a 44-year-old mother of five and Alaska governor, as his running mate on Friday.
But 52 percent of voters polled in a survey for the women's activist group Emily's List said they would vote for the Democrat ticket of Barack Obama and his VP choice Joseph Biden, against 41 for the Republicans.
"If John McCain thought putting Sarah Palin on the ticket would be a game changer, he may have been right but not in the way he intended," said the group's president Ellen Malcolm.
"Senator McCain has seriously misjudged women voters if he thinks he can win them over simply by putting a woman on the ticket," she said.
"Women voters take their votes seriously and the more they learn about Governor Palin, the less likely they are to support the McCain-Palin ticket."
The poll, carried out by random dialing of 800 women on Sunday and Monday, shows that 50 percent of women voters felt McCain picked Palin out of political expediency and not because he believes she has the experience to do the job.
Only 29 percent said he had picked her to run in the November 4 elections because he believed she was qualified to be vice president.
And when asked which ticket had the most experience to run the country, 52 percent opted for the Democrats compared to 37 percent for the Republicans.

Rush said today that polls mean nothing until maybe 7 days before the election, but he said less than 7 days is better.
Plus, due to the “Bradley effect”, if Bammy isn’t 10 or 15 points up on election day, he will lose.
The scary part for Dem’s is that 41% of those surveyed for Emily’s list will vote GOP.........
I’m not believing any polls except for the one that takes place in November.
“anti-abortion, devout Christian”
I’m sorry, but do we have a referendum upcoming about reinstituting abortion and establishing a theocracy? How are these two issues timely? shouldn’t they say something like, “reformist, pro-drilling”?
This organization reeks of extreme-left partisanship. So it it’s not surprising that the press release they put out exudes a stunningly powerful stench that shouts: lack of integrity, lack of self-honesty and self-deception.
All I needed to know. The survey isn't worth the bandwidth it consumed here.
EMILY’s List was founded in 1984, when 25 women met in the home of Ellen Malcolm. Their goal was to form a network to raise money for pro-choice Democratic female candidates. The network was designed to provide its members with information about candidates and encourage them to write checks directly to the candidates.

Governor Palin changed my game. I waited until she was selected
to contribute and now I'm contributing much more.
Let's see the media report how much money McCain/Palin has brought in.
They were ecstatic about reporting how much was given to the big 0 after Sarah's speech. Probably a couple of 0's buddy foreigners.
There's a lot we don't know about this survey's methodology - how the sample was selected, how the questions were phrased, etc.
If Emily’s List is a liberal group and we are pulling 41% at this point, I actually think that is impressive. If Palin can sway those type of women, she could sway just about anyone.
“Emily’s List surveys very liberal women. Its garbage. I would ask again that polls be banned from being posted til the last week prior to the election!”
But wait! A liberal bunch of women and 41% say they’re voting republican....that’s supposed to be bad? Sounds pretty encouraging to me.

Timing is everything, LOL. When you have the likes of Campbell Brown trying to explain to the men panel member on CNN how Palin connects with women and how she was moved by parts of Palin's speech, you better believe she'll impact women.
Interviewed an activist group?? Apparently, they don’t know what an activist is. Reverend Wrong is an activist....just like Obama.
Sunday thru Monday on a holiday weekend.
Before the Palin speech.
Emily’s list- Pro Death group
Nice try, France’s version of the AP.
Exactly. One of the good things about Palin is that she renders Bob Barr completely moot. Lots of pro-Paul and small libertarians are taking a look at McCain/Palin and will probably vote for them. Barr should do the honorable thing and drop out and endorse McCain.
Garbage in, garbage out!!!!
