As the Republican faithful waited in anticipation to hear vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin speak Wednesday night, a local Austin man was watching his cousin take her next step as a politician, and he hopes, vice president.

"If the media is not careful, they may just awaken the sleeping giant known as Republican women," said U.S. Senator John Cornyn...

Palin has four cousins who live in Austin and another in San Antonio.

Just looking at the title I had prepared myself for another lame hit piece. :-) But that was a nice article.

Oh, my...Palin knows people in Texas...which is where George Bush is from...which means she has ties to Bush...which means a McCain/Palin administration will be exactly the same as the hated Bush administration.

Sure is. But the REAL media will put some mayonnaise on it.

LOL! Right, except for one small consideration... the president is not hated by the vast majority of the country.

Rush had an interesting stat on his progrma yesterday: the 12 most recent, consecutive battleground polls show that 60% of the country is conservative. Our base is not shrinking; it is doing just fine.

We sure need about 15% of the populace to get their bearings straight, then.

I am not sure where you get your information but San Antonio is *NOT* a sancuary city. Yes there is a large Mex and Mex/Am population, but the illegal count is more due to our proximity to the border. And quite frankly, many of the Americans here with Hispanic ancestry do not like the open border policy any more than most Americans with Anglo ancestry.

Austin proper is a rat’s nest, but there are a lot of good gun-lovin’ religion-clingin’ communities in the surrounding SMSA. Maybe there’s hope for the Palin cousins.

"I firmly believe that if she was a Democratic woman, there would be parties in the streets; they would be ecstatic," said Ann Barlow, a Republican supporter.

Oh wow, this is one of my best friends! I'll have to send the story to her in case she hasn't seen it!

Now we stand a chance of seeing Sarah here in San Antonio. The last time I saw a candidate in person was Reagan in 1980, and I'd be thrilled to see his ideological successor - I'd even take off time from work to do it.

BTW, San Antonio is NOT a sanctuary city. Austin is a nest of uber-libs, but we try not to pay much attention to what goes on up there.

Thanks for your post. Many on this forum have a one way view of Americans of Mexican descent.
