I don’t think kids are going to be given £500 for reporting their mum’s slightly over-filled bin.
In any case, most kids aren’t stupid, they know that if they pull that kind of stunt with their parents, they are going to be spending a lot of time in their room with a sore arse, and their christmases and birthdays will end up being pretty spartan, on account of all their present money having to be spent on the fine that they caused to have to be paid...

There is horrible danger to any free society in allowing the children to be made spies for the State.Justifying such on the basis of dog poo and improper trash-sorting is sheer lunacy.
Anyone who wants to use children in such ways is pure evil.

Believing as you do there should be no reason that you should not OPENLY report all breakers of the sorts of laws under discussion in the article. Allot a portion of your valuable free time to watching. Openly go to the cops, turn in the evildoers and collect any rewards the law provides. Put out to your neighbors that you are a good citizen, you are concerned and you’re not taking anyone’s crap!

Parents are not allowed to spank their kids anymore, adults aren't allowed to discipline a child. It's the other way around now, come on, I know you've read the memo

OK, here goes, look up 'Common Purpose' and Politically Correct, these are new terms and new organizations, they are using old play-books (which many here can see)
Wake Up, before it's too late
There are websites out there promoting kids narking on their parents for carbon crimes. One of these uses the appellation *groans* for *grownups*.
This isn't new, either. Back in the very late 70’s, my son was asked in a Social Studies class to fill out a questionnaire on all his differences with us. He was 15, so, of course, we had a lot of differences. Luckily, we have always had great communication and encouraged independent thinking and questioning of the peer culture. He came home and told us about the questions he was asked, because they struck him as odd in that they were leading him to rebel against us just because we were parents/adults, while not encouraging the same rebellion against the teachers and TV authorities. He also told us that he hedged his answers and did not give them anything that could be used against him or us as leverage.
The Long March Through The Institutions was just getting underway at that time. Today, it is complete. If I had kids today who were in public school, I would move to a rural area, homeschool and immerse my children in self-sufficient living. I would also encourage them to find a trade where they could ultimately become self-employed. I have seen too many children indoctrinated into PC. They wonder if their parents are racist or polluters or if they should report them for guns or tobacco. One would return home from college and summarily change the channel while her very conservative parents were watching FNC. She would email all her parents' friends with anti-Bush/anti-Republican screeds while piously telling us that her Catholic *faith* was the basis for this, while supporting abortion. Another was convinced her father was a war-mongering racist and this eventually led her to lesbianism. Yet another converted lesbian first tried to *out* her father by dating an American Indian. When that didn't sufficiently anger him, she gained a lot of weight and announced she was gay.
This Balkanization by age has been a tactic for 30 years. That is 7 cohorts of undergraduate college students and about 4 cohorts of graduate students, many of whom, by now, are instructors and professors.Some write the textbooks for teachers.
It will not stop with dog doo and dumping.

I am curious in which sense you intended this. In my view Bush did something very right in taking the fight to the enemy in his home. This is the work of DoD, NSA and should be the work of the CIA if it were ever to function like a real intelligence organization. On the other hand the trillions being wasted on tripple checking native born American citizens, TSA, 4 rings of security around the public library is putting the less accomplished in the business of monitoring the comings and goings of the more accomplished and doing the enemies work. All of that is not a blow for individual liberties.
The irony is that this is mentioned as happening in Ealing. Ealing Studios, the world’s oldest film studio, was known for its grand and silly English comedies about greedy and stupid people and government.

These things that you listed are not "crimes." They are misdemeanors. Crimes are things like rape and murder and violent assault and theft of significant amounts of property.
You who signed up on 29 July 2008 are a poor excuse for a human being and certainly don't belong on a forum that exists to protect civil liberties under the US constitution.
What is absolutely unbelieveable is your attitude that false charges by the police backed up the the say-so of an 8 year old is ok because you can go to court and get the charges dismissed.
Let me ask you something since you seem all hung up on bodily functions. If someone hiking deep in a public wood needs to relieve himself and pees on a tree has he committed a crime? Should he spend 3 nights or 3 months in the pokey because of his "crime?" It is after all against the law in most places. Should he stand trial for it if "caught?"

They’re teaching the children good citizenship. It is everybody’s responsibility to look after the community they live in and uphold just laws. This isn’t evil. The converse, that of teaching children that what goes on in their community is not their problem and is entirely the responsibility of the police I would hesitate to describe as ‘evil’ because that would be a bit OTT, but it isn’t good.
You seem to be unaffected by this kind of thing, so you probably don’t give a monkeys, but I’ve had people letting their dogs p**s all over my front gate posts when they thought I wasn’t watching, and unlike the US, were you probably drive everywhere even to the most trivial destination (or at least, that was my experiance when I lived over there) I have to walk and use the pavements on a regular basis, and I’ve trodden in a lot of dog mess over the years, it’s not like being mugged, but it is annoying and the people responsible do deserve to be brought to book over it. Why should I have to tread in dog s**t because other people are too lazy to pick up after their dogs? And why should communities have to put up with gangs of yobs tagging their territory with offensive graffiti?
You’re equation of this with kids reporting on their parents ala the Stasi is ridiculous. No parent is going to live in fear of their kids because they (theoretically) have the power to make them pay a small fine for not disposing of their rubbish properly. If you are afraid of your kid for having that power, you are a weak and pathetic person anyway and you have bigger problems as a parent than anything that can be caused by this issue.
Yes! Civil liberties would appear to be alive and kicking in UK. I wonder if sinsofthesolarsystem above was the lone poster in favor of this effort to undermine the civil order in UK.

I don’t know how you define a ‘crime’ but a crime in my book can be either serious or minor. Speeding is a ‘crime’ but it isn’t serious. Now, I’ll be the first to admit not cleaning up after your dog isn’t up there with burglary and rape, but just because it isn’t a serious crime doesn’t mean the perpetrators don’t deserve to be caught and punished.
Paying a relatively small fine for these minor crimes hardly puts enforcing them in the same league as a totalitarian regime committing crimes against humanity and enforcing it’s rule with dissapperances, torture and summarary executions. People like you seem to think that people should be let off the small stuff, probably because well, I might hazzard a guess that maybe you have committed minor infringements and therefore believe any attempt to punish you is an infringement of your liberty?
