Heartening Polls for McCain
National Review ^ | Sept. 6, 2008 | Jack Fowler

A new SurveyUSA survey finds Sen. John McCain's GOP convention speech has scored well, at least with Florida voters.

We asked voters who heard the speeches by both McCain and Obama to tell us who would do a better job with certain issues. Here is what they told us:

Who has the better plan for Iraq? McCain

For energy independence? McCain

For Health care? McCain

Who is stronger on the environment? McCain

On education? McCain

You guys need to win all of these:

Ohio 20, Florida 27,Virginia 13,Nevada 5, north Carolina 15, Indiana 11

total of 91 add to what McCain will get for sure: 174 = 265

AND you need: Colorado 9
I don’t think you will get new Mexico 5

265 + 9 = 274 you really needs Colorado and the ones above..

Where are the straight-up preference polls since the Convention? They should be up by now.

You are assuming that McCain can not win in states predicted for Obama win. I think McCain can, and that when the election day comes... Obama will find that a man with the funny name “Hussein” time has not come in America.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and predict that McCain will win all those states you listed on the first line. Colorado could go either way, but I have a gut feeling there will be some surprises this time around, like Michigan coming over to McCain.

Trends I’m seeing on Rasmussen indicate the swing states and some states like Michigan/Wisconsin/Oregon that normally dems can count on are trending in our direction, even though it will still be a fight. Also, take a look at what states Hillary won in the primaries and I think you get an indication that the moderate-conservative blue collar dems who are key in nearly all the important states are not that comfortable with the Obamessiah.

McCain will win all of them plus Colorado, New Mexico and New Hampshire.

Thank you. I'm really growing tired of seeing everyone wanting to play defense only. Maybe two months ago. But this is a new election. Obama is no longer the frontrunner. This election is up for grabs, as are MANY GOP and Dem states from the 2004 election.

Sorry, but predicting a Republican will win states that the Republican Presidential candidate normally carries ain’t exactly going out on a limb.

McCain is already leading in Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, and Indiana.

If he gets Virginia, Colorado, and Nevada McCain wins.

They were ALL Bush states in 2004. Virginia is tilting his way. Colorado and Nevada are the only true undecideds.

A. Lets all remember folks it’s a LONG way to the election.

B. I would really enjoy seeing Obama roll up huge majorities in deep blue states, only to get whipped in the Electoral College, just so I could see all the Progressives heads explode....

Sorry, but predicting a Republican will win states that the Republican Presidential candidate normally carries ain’t exactly going out on a limb.

GWB squandered his VP pick on Cheney. Cheney is from a state that is one of the most Republican and has just 3 electoral votes. Had Rove and Bush gotten a candidate from a Great Lakes state, GWB might have had a shot at picking off Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and perhaps Pennsylvania. I can't understand why people think Rove is such a great strategist. He's managed to take the Repulbican party from a position of having strength in some states in most parts of the country with a solid base in the south to being weak everywhere but the south and the Rocky Mountains and still being vulnerable in Colorado and New Mexico.

I'm not worried about Colorado. The last two Presidential elections the Dem got 42.4% in '00 and 47% in '04. And there's an article around here today that shows the GOP has once again taken the lead in voter registrations in CO.

Obama needs to worry about WI, NH, MI and maybe PA.

I'm not sure Gov. Bush could have picked a better person for Vice President. And to this day I'm incredibly thankful for his wisdom.

By the way, the rest of your post is as silly as your assertion of “squandering” the VP pick.

But he could have just as easily served as Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, or some other powerful cabinet position in the GWB administration and been just as effective. I'm tired of of the GOP haning on by fingernails in the electoral college. A pickup of a few more states would have made Florida irrelevant in 2000.

We just had the conventions, so I don’t think any numbers can be reliable.

They need to “set in” a bit, and we have the debates.

Also, anything can happen in the next two months. For instance, Bolton has said that if Israel thinks Obama will win, it will attack Iraq before the election, because they don’t trust Obama. That could be a game changer.

I have a great idea for an advertisement in Colorado.

Hey, Colorado! You invited the dem party to your state and the only way you could prevent them from burning down Denver was increasing your police force by borrowing and hiring from other towns. And you want to vote for them?

Indiana is not a battleground state. McCain was up six to eight points pre-Sarah.
